Getting to Know You, April 2018

Question, April 9: How many different avatar images have you used on the Reaper forums?

Two. The first one is a tattoo design I found on the internet and likes because it was a dragon and it was an s.

I suppose it still is both those things.

It is also still visible, as I shrank it down and placed it in the corner of my new and current avatar in order to alleviate the "wait, who are you?" confusion that accompanies a new "face." The current avatar was taken the evening we received Bones I.

And looks just like you too.  I'm not sure who the guy you are wrapped around is though.

Two for sure, maybe three.  I've been floating in and out of here for quite a while and the early days are kind of fuzzy.

Just one. It's the one I use everywhere.

Just one, really. I don't generally change them once I settle on something I like, and Blee over there has been a decent representation of me on these forums.

So, no reason to change unless I do another drawing of her.

My first week here, it was an image of Tyrande as a placeholder.

Then I drew out young Morihalda, I used that for a few years.

I briefly used my drawing of Alan Rickman when he passed then went back to young Mori.

Last autumn, I used this silly site called bebinator to make this current avatar.

I uh, got purple hair last Christmas? Did I ever mention that? It was a really long winter.

I probably should have updated my avatar to reflect that. Meh. It's Libby (me) who has the purple hair, not my character Mori. :)

one.

I did change the color from Black and White to Blue and White when I was inducted into Reaper's Hall of Fame in April 2013, but the image itself is the same as when I joined in August 2002.

Let's see... the old guy one I first started with, then there were several versions of Snake (Kurt Russell), and maybe something else, then there was the Nuclear Krill one, and one or two Sabretooth tigers before I finalized on this one.  At first it didn't seem to matter, but soon you realize that you look at the avatar for recognition of the poster more often than you do the name... and so I locked it in and left it alone.

Edit: Oh... so to clarify... um... Twenty!!!

I believe I'm still at one.

The only caveat is that sometimes I put up a temporary version of the same one that wears a festive hat I photoshopped over (Santa hat; pumpkin head; etc.).

Only one, but in the Glory Days of the Republic, a hundred servants would change a thousand avatars at the drop of a hat!

I've used two. Both Haldir of course. I took the image from the old Decipher Cards LoTR ccg.

When the board upgraded a few years ago I decided it was time for a change. 1st pic was when the Fellowship first meets him, 2nd one was when he arrives to help in Two Towers.

This is my third and it's sort of a place holder until I figure out something I really want to use. First was an eastern european warrior from the 12th or 13th century. 2nd was my special forces gopher because I was looking for something cool from the prairies. Got tired of being a rodent and was fooling around with an avatar maker and came up with this. His expression is kind of what I feel like since the start of March. The mouth and droopy ears are so suitable.

Two.  Both varations on glowing eyes.  The first one was Green Spawn eyes, the current ones are Richard's from Looking For Group.  It reminds me to lighten up.

Just the one; re, it took me FOREVER to figure out how to load the pic. I don't ever want to have to do that again.

AND the Little Guy suits me fine. He is something I made from scratch. PLUS he reflects my attitude on life & inner

being; that is he looks nuts.

He doesn't look nuts at all.  He looks like he's dealt with the rest of the world, for all 36 hours, all within 60 seconds.  He looks downright sane given the circumstances!  And think of the creative bursts that one can garner from that!  No wonder your world is so magnificent!

I don't get it - why would I have an image of the Avatar on the forums?

We are talking about this guy right?

I was at the 2018 Adepticon in Schaumburg, Illinois last month helping out at the Reaper Paint & Take tables.

I took pictures of the stupendous international Crystal Brush competition entries and other minis and terrain with an eye towards the interests of the people on this forum. Also some fun cosplay and miscellaneous interest.

I can't guarantee my photographs are great. I was using two cameras with very different capabilities and strengths and I am not a professional photographer. Some of the pictures use a very harsh flash because it allowed for super sharp enlargements of detail, something I thought painters here would be interested in.

I didn't know which entries would win the Crystal Brush competition, and as it turns out I missed the third-place winner. I have got pictures of the first and second place winners.

So to begin with, here is this year's first place entry, "Apocalypse", a diorama by Michal Pisarski.

And this is the second place winner, "The Name of the Wind", a diorama by Sergio Calvo. My pictures of this are not so good, I'm afraid.

Looks like it has rolled back around to me.

      The roolz:

      The obligatory rules posting:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara will post a question of her own choice.
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.)
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.
