Kulathi lore ?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any background concept on the Kulathi ? I'm kind of winging it with my Kulathi colony development in another thread but it's all fluid and easily adapted to any history thay may have ... hint ... clue ... speculation ?

Ok, 48 hours and as many views but no new info ... with so many galaxies out there and each one diferent I'm going to pick one, that one right there, no not that one, just to the right of it ... yeah that one. That's my galaxy and in it things have gone a little like this ...

The first contact between the Terrains and the Kulathi happens on Kuden-3 , a average sized planet with a medium weak star in the Beehive star cluster found in the cancer formation (amazing how this galaxy looks just like ours) ... preliminary scans and probes found little to suggest a star fairing life form so a colonial outpost was dispatched to the planet as it already had life and close to usable atmosphere.

The planet Kuden was mostly a dust ball with sludge lakes giving away to thin little ice caps on ether pole. Most of the planets water seems to be underground. Thou orbiting a weakish sun the star cluster adds to the bright hot days and dim but not dark nights with a 22.5 hour solar cycle.

Life forms were seen but tended to keep at distance, it was the investigation of thr local plants and underground structures that lead to open 'contact' ... the plants seem to spread out from a central point with less plants and bigger holes as you get to the center ... it was later lerned this is how the Kulathi have been terraforming the planet with several of these colonial outposts. It seems the Kulathi let the plant move the dirt, find the water, build a network and as it spreads out the Kulathi eat the plant mixing their waist with the dirt to form an energy absorbant kind of cement to line the walls of their new tunnels,  grottoes,  and storage caves ... new construction will have a smell all its own but once cured will be very resilient.

The Kulathi must come from a semi-aquatic planet as they place great emphasis on managing water and air flow ... the tunnel system are a vast network dotted with vent stacks and entrrances, mostly smaller on the outside rim with larger structures as you approach a clusters center.

And this lead to first contact, mistaking the Kulathi for primitives a patrol pushed a little to far into there territory and a firefight broke out ... this is where we lerned the Kulathi are not only an advanced race, but a militarily effective one. After the initial conflict the Kulathi quickly went on the offensive knocking out our outer defence in short order, not long after the outpost itself was overrun with the only known survivors retreating from the planet.

Much is still unknown about the Kulathi, but it would seem they were studying us from set down as they seemed to know just when and where to strike at each step of the short conflict. But if a second attempt will be made to colonize Kuden one thing is sure, we will need more troops, a lot more troops.

I don't think Reaper has published much lore for their minis. Just bits here and there for the war games they've made. Otherwise, everything is intended to be neat looking yet generic enough that you can slide it into what ever you need.

That being said I like what you have there and may steal it should the need arise.

So no word on the sticky subject of Kulathi and Bathalian race relations ... guess that leaves us free to fill our own galaxy as we please ... mine is going to get crowded.

The Kulathi aren't tied to any particular game or background, so it's wide open for you to invent as you like.

Thanks ... I based it on the Kulathi look, kinda shrimp/prawn like crustaceans ... and the termite mound inspired terrain as a bio terraforming ... their force development is based on their anatomy and the blisters they come in ... unit size six (six is their ten for a number system) ... the hounds of Tindalos just fit in ... as soon as my order of bases show up I'll be busting out 3 different unit types and 3 command types ...

For additions I'm looking at the kryomech hover vehicles, they have a crusty look that seems to fit ... also looking at a Gigas regiment or two from mantic, giant crusty goodness there ...

Allies ... the Kulathi as I see them have a very different mind set and social code, as well as a very different view on hygiene,  let's just say fuel in / bio construction past out ... so their allies would also be very unhuman like, setting them up as great misunderstood opponents who, just when you try to reach out to them, blunder into some horific social/hygienic fiasco ...

Adding to the planet Kuden eco system ... the Kuden sand worm ...

WormAttack.thumb.jpg.7a230c3bd20f22dffbfadd9172674286.jpg

He is still a work in progress but seems a Natural fit ... not sure if he something the Kulathi brought with them, serving a biological use or ops, how did that get here (they start off small) ... or ... is it native to Kuden and one more thing for the Kulathi to deal with ...

Planet Kuden is a window into the Kulathi realms ... it shows off a very different technology base from human norm , very organic in nature ... almost unidentifiable to humans , but still very effective ...

At first glance planet Kuden seemed a simple gem of a planet ripe for plucking ... the pole swamps where over run with reptilian monstrosities but the vast desert plains in between, broken up by rocky out crops , sand seas , and speckled with scrub growths seemed easy pickings ...

Initial drone surveillance yealded positive results ... the sand seas where infested with sand worms , easy to avoid, the shallows lurked the sand sifters , easy to weed out , the rocky regions where home to the Growlers , tough nut to Crack but doable once established ... it was the cave men like Kulathi that was missed on the radar ... thay just seemed so primitive,  till a fire fight broke out and their habit of hiding their tech came to fruition,  like a sand storm once they started hostility nothing stipend then till no human responded in the system ... in less than 12 hours every position was overrun , the orbital support ship did not last much longer ...

After the action little to no evidence showed that anything happened at all ... except a few high tech ruins soon swallow by the shifting sand of Kuden ...

Got a second wing of skimmers to get together and a few more conversions to hack up but the Kulathi Horde is starting to take shape ... 3 strike units to the left, 3 fire units to the right, 2 hound assault up front, 2 heavy weapon teams and 3 command elements in center with skimmer fire support wing around back (skimmer assault wing and ace special in the works) ...

Some paint and basing to go ...

Thank you again Bob Ridolfi for the Kulathi and Kevin Williams for the Hounds of Tindalos ... im sooo glad you can sculpt better than I (try to) paint.

With a certain sale going on at a certain large toy store I took a look at what I might stumble across ... and at less than one dollar each ... Skylanders jet stream ...

Yeah it will need a new paint job ... and a flight stand ... but a few attack wings could round out my Kulathi army ...

With the arrival of a load of bases my growing Kulathi force have started to take shape and I thought I'd share the frce development ... starting with the command section...

To the right the yet to be painted artillery observer and spotter ... to the left medic and orderly ... center is the force commander and aid ...

Next up inter basic grunts, the Strike teams ... with more waiting fore base coat ...

Then we have the Fire teams, supporting the strike teams advice. ..

Sweeping around the flanks or charging up through cover is the Hound teams ... with specially bread and trained Kulathi to keep up with the hounds greater speed on the battle field ...

A most resent development are Kulathi heavy gunners ... packing heavy fire power for structure breaching or armored vehicle hunting ... a preview below ...

Striking with ruthless determination and single minded ferocity thr Kulathi have quickly established a reputation as deadly and efficient combatants on almost any battlefield.

Had a go at converting a Kulathi to wield a heavier gun ... something to shoot up opposing armor ...

the smaller arms did not turn out well ... I going to try clipping at the elbow for the next one.

Looks food from above, going to have to work n the underside ...

Started building a Kulathi battle force and colony outpost for their Kuden-3 outpost, in the Beehive star cluster, in the crab nebula ...

Having 3 fingers a hand and 6 limbs the number system fore the Kulathi is based on 6 ... with 2,3 and 4 also prominent, so I based there units on 6 ...

An officer (2 pistols = smg) 3 left hand smg and 2 right hand automatic rifles make a strike team ... no other unit types teams can exceed the number of strike teams.

The fire team has 1 officer 1 smg and 4 auto rifles ... a longer ranged bite.

I'm also adding a few hound of Tindalos units (4 with 1 smg and 1 officer kulathi) with bigger things in the works ...
