Randomness XIV: THE FLOOR IS LAVA!

Are we talking snake woman or wooly ruminant with buck teeth and a bad attitude?  Having been around the second type, I find the descriptor 'demon' to be redundant...

You have to stop rolling in the cheese pits

It was an anthropomorphic llama character, that had a theme song that randomly popped up (based upon what was going on), was totally oblivious to such, and his power of obliviousness was so powerful that it could infect others too (especially on things like say, a notice roll by a guard).

Aka it was a silly character idea that was stuck in my head for a while barely based off of the childish moron from Emperor's New Groove, that mashed itself with a few other ideas.  I instead kind of opted to play a kitsune, because they're less obnoxious, and I don't want to perpetually role play someone who's totally oblivious with the power of mega-obliviousness.

... And a part of me was all "wait you quoted that, but said nothing about the goth/punk/raver dragon idea?  The demon llama bit stood out that much?" O_o :p

Well change of plans.  Was planning on painting for a bit and then wallowing in the nostalgia that is Star Control Origins.  However, power is out in my and most of the surrounding subdivisions so it's going to be a while.  May just try sleep instead...

Paint by candle light, just like they did in the old days!

Dragons in weird colors are not super unusual after the rainbow dragon challenge.  The image of a scarlet llama with a pointed prehensile tail and a pitchfork in its mouth was sudden and jarring enough that my brain latched on to it.

10 years ago maybe.  These days I may as well just try to paint in the dark.  Probably be about as accurate...

So, I can work with this.

BLERG!

So I've been at 6s and 7s all week while camped out in a hotel room while wife did conventioney thingies for our Fraternal Order.  Last nigh was Officers Installation for the Encampment Branch and the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary.  My wife is "going through the chairs" at the state level for the LEA and she asked me to be her official escort, a task that I was quite happy to undertake.  It involved about 5 minutes of actual  escorting and sitting on the sideline for the rest of the program.  I knew it would be loud, and it was. Raging Migraine as a result.

Today was drive to the kids day.  What would normally be a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive took 4 hours thanks to one small construction zone.  They are roto-milling the road so there is like a 1" drop in the pavement level so all the people who shouldn't have unrestricted drivers licenses had to slow down to a crawl for the bump [ which is actually no different than the joint at a lot of bridges due to earthquakes].  Massive traffic backup for the rest of us.

We are here safely and dinner will be here shortly.

I see people have been chatty today so It will take me some time to get caught up.

Same here.  Planning to ask for the same room for next year as the one we had this year.

Super Bright LEDs are cheap enough now that even the 99 Cent Store gets some good lights in for a couple of dollars plus batteries.

With Halloween coming up quick they should have a lot of lights/flashlights to choose from.  I found some handy flashlight/desk lights there before Reaper Con that were only a couple of dollars each.

Ha. When we were passing through on vacation last summer my S-I-L made the offer. I think she was worried it would be put off another decade, as I did, and as a lifelong suburbanite she has a horror of not knowing how to drive.

Firstborn does seem to get increasingly recognized when she’s out in public. I think it might be the hair.

At the end of the dinner table conversation we got an update on James's [Son In Law] housemate in college, Mick Wingert.

We've been getting semi-regular updates on Mick's climb up the ladder of success as a Voice Actor and his career is really taking off.  If you are at all familiar with Jack Blacks films then you know that he is the voice of Kung Fu Panda in the movies.  Mick's career got a big boost when he was chosen to voice the Kung Fu Panda  cartoon series, which he has been doing from the launch of the cartoon series.  Mick and Jack Black not only have very similar voices but also incredibly similar personalities.  I've had the pleasure to visit with him {Mick, not Jack Black} several times during the time period when he was a struggling young talent, among the topics of discussion I am pleased to say we talked about voice acting and I discussed with him the career of Mel Blanc and other voice actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood and the days of my youth, when Hanna-Barbera was young and prolific and Rocky and Bullwinkle were shiny new and a big deal.

So.  The really big news is that Mick was chosen to voice Slappy for the new Goosebumps Movie, a part done by Jack Black in the first Goosebumps Movie.  There's more.  Mick has also started a podcast [through his own production company] called "Hidden Frequencies" [on Podbean] which James described as " like Twilight Zone for your ears".  I'll be checking it out later this evening.

As a demonstration of how small the world really is, when R.L. Stine was a struggling young writer and had just had his first book published I was introduced to him at a local Los Angeles area SF Convention.

Urrrrrrg...

So on Monday we learned Combat Zone transcripts. It's where I [redacted] the [redacted] Master File [redacted] and then people serving in combat zones don't get charged penalties and interest on their taxes. It's a nice little thing the IRS does for the military and all support staff. No big deal. Find the missing exit dates, input the Thing, abate penalties. If no Thing, send a letter. Done.

Then on Tuesday we learned Combat Zone transcripts. Because there were questions that certain people who sit in the back and don't pay attention had to ask. Questions like "so how do we do this again?" Annoying but I've been through worse.

Then today we learned Combat Zone transcripts. AGAIN. Because those same certain people who sit in the back and don't pay attention still weren't paying attention. And they still didn't pay attention. So today not only did I have to sit through the same three hour class but the SHOUTING throughout it all, shouting that boiled down to "how do I do this?" "I taught you how!" "no you didn't" "yes I did" "nu uh" "uh huh" "ow MOOoooooOOOOM!"

I have a migraine. And if I have to sit through ONE MORE class of people complaining the system is dumb because it [redacted] the [redacted] I will hurt someone.

You not only have my understanding but my complete sympathy and empathy.  Sounds like you have a full, or possibly double, quota of The People Who Rode The Short Bus.

Suggestion for the future:  Audio Tape of all Training Sessions.  For the slow of learning they can listen to the tape for a couple of days and if they still don't get it after having repeated the audio portion of the training seminar at least two times, only then will there be a training session scheduled that will waste valuable work time for the majority who would really like to get their backlog cleared.

Since all Cabinet Level Secretaries have been instructed to submit budgets with at least 5% reductions in funding for the next fiscal year, you might want to submit this to your supervisors.

Ugh. Gotta work overtime Saturday night. The extra money will be nice, but I am really wishing I hadn't volunteered for it last week. I've just decided that I want to have my Saturday night off. Oh well.

Maybe I'll get lucky and on Sunday morning, before I go home from the overtime shift, I'll find out that we hit the powerball with our office pool and we'll all be newly minted millionaires. Or maybe we'll hit the Mega Millions later tonight, and I can tell my boss to buzz off because I'll be too busy swimming in money to work, and he'll be too busy counting his new money to care...

One can dream...

Visions of Unruly in his new role as Scrooge McDuck.

On second thought, I'm not sure I can handle the image of Unruly wearing Spats and a Vest with nothing in between but whatever natural feathers are present.

Good point.  Also, your version of a demon llama is so much better than mine.  Mine was just some smart mouthed punk that kept getting those silly visor glasses block his vision whenever his theme song played...  oh, and had the ability to summon anything he really, reaaaally wanted.  SO if he desperately wanted a sandwich...  Poof, it's there, floating right in front of him to eat.  Need burglar's tools?  Ditto.  Had serious possible backfiring possibilities though - If he seriously wanted to bean somebody upside the head with a squeaky toy (instead of something useful, like say a solid wooden bat), that's precisely what would happen...

Sometimes doing nothing can be substantial, and the best course of action.

I've learned of a bingo event for seniors across town and have been spending a great deal of energy resisting the urge to crash it. According to my sources, most of them are firm believers in the use of small totems and artefacts to increase their chances of winning. I am feeling a very strong temptation to break out my Bones Culthuhu stuff and bring it in. Followed by intimidation/bribery of whoever's running the game into rigging several rounds in my favor. I then proceed to inform the seniors of the powers inherent even in unpainted miniatures and provide them with the means to order their own from the Reaper store, while informing them that the phrase "Ia Ia Culthuhu Flaghan" must be used early, often, and loudly to activate said powers.

By the next bingo function, I would've laid the groundwork that only those with the Bones figures would have winning boards and this would pretty much ensure the beginnings of a local Cuthulhu cult.

My earlier rememberance of the Cult of the Bundt Cake seems to have awoken my mischief making instincts. Luckily for the world, I am  feeling much too lazy to actually embark on any of these ideas.

If you could locate at least one of the regular players with a similarly Puckish sense of humor you could do a stealth infiltration.

So I had a first at work tonight. Got punched in the face by a drunk guy. He was a total wimp, though. He punched me and all that happened was my hat and glasses came off my head. I didn't move. I just stood there, dumfounded that I actually got punched. My coworker grabbed him, he swung at my coworker, and a bouncer from one of the bars right where we were dumped a whole bunch of pepper spray into his face. Cops were called, and my attacker will be getting served with warrants in the near future. They could have arrested him tonight, because there were multiple witnesses, but they didn't because they didn't see him hit me themselves.

I'm fine. I was more surprised by the fact that someone actually, honestly, took a swing at me. He's lucky I was too taken aback that I'd been punched to react, and I'm probably lucky too, because he'd have likely ended up in the hospital and I'd probably be getting in trouble at work(and possibly with the law).
