"May-be you should finish that?" Goals

Recommended Posts

My list of things to do in May is based on getting a bunch of stuff done for the Halfling Hack’n’Slash game I am running which was supposed to be a one-shot but has somehow continued on. This looks like a lot but most of the things listed for finishing are well over halfway through.

  • Finish up Kobolds (6)
  • Finish Troll (1)
  • Finish Killer Frogs (1/2)
  • Finish up humanoid NPC’s (3)
  • Hope the weather behaves and put a sealing coat on everything destined for the gaming table. (1/2),  (got a day where I sealed everything but now the troll and the kobolds need to be sealed too.)
  • Paint up a Cobra as a Fire Snake (1)
  • Paint up some hobgoblins (2)
  • Paint up some bugbears (2)

If there is any time to spare start on some extra goblins.

Oh, I never made any May goals.  Well, I was out of town for four days on business this week and next weekend is a family reunion.  The plan is to finish or nearly finish Goremaw this weekend.  After that I'll try and fit in something small - as in a normal size 28mm.  Compared to the giant worm most Reaper minis are small.

Its Hobby Goal Time again! Here are mine for May!

--Complete Work on Spring Exchange.

--Start and make serious progress on GenCon DDM Guild Prizes

--Start work on Reaper Minis Nativity Set for friend of my family.

--Start a Couple Oathsworn Heroins in Senseable Shoes 3 Minis.

--Finish the Casino Palace in Persona 5.

--Beat a Classic Video Role Playing Game I haven't beaten yet.(Final Fantasy 8 or 10-2 are the most likely choices.)

GF

So updates on progress...

--Spring Exchange is on break atm. Checked with partner an they are okay with delays.

--Finalized my choices and got paint on all but one of them. Going to decide on a paint day at my FLGS on Wednesday so I can get help on the Giantess in particular.

--Started bases for several mini from Nativity set.

--Based Catfolk with Knives for Friends AL PC.

--Stuck in the Darkroom Maze section of the casino Palace.

--Decided on doing Final Fantasy 10-2 for my next Game. In chapter 1 after first Hot Spot but before second. Going for 100% Special ending, if I can. Wish me Luck:)

It's been a rough month so far, with a couple of weekends occupied by trips.  I have a unit of vintage orcs on the table that should be finished this weekend, and I did dust off a Dark Ages Norman archer at lunch yesterday and finish him.

Oh also I'd like to finish my final bits for my Dracula's America Posse (just need to put the final touches on some cowgirls and then shade/highlight the revenants), and then do at least one other posse for it. Got the Twilight Order started a bit, but I also got some Indians from Thunderbolt mountain before it closed to be Skinwalkers and it would be cool to get them going.

Most of the time I do that too. though I do have a few that went back up on the shelf when I just wasn't making progress that I liked on them and needed space until I felt like trying them again.

Update for me. Cowgirls are done, Revanents not yet, got distracted by goblins. No further progress on any Indians or Twilight Order. (due to goblins). Finished my Goblin wizard and apprentice for Frostgrave as well as what will be a thug. Just need to finish some Pathfinder goblins and the whole group will be ready. Also a random Ral Partha mini is almost done that I just started.

Oh also finished the Stone haven Gnome monk.

So I got a bunch of things to try and figure out how to take pictures of soon.

What a sassy title, I love it.

I took a break from my break and I think I'm coming around now....

I'd like to finish converting and painting Damaris and sculpting Sora. I took too long with Sora - I paused on her so I could learn some chest anatomy and months later I'm just kinda "blegh" about her....

Maybe. Maybe she'll just.... disappear.  I'll keep her staff though, I love that staff.

Damaris conversion is complete! I'm still painting her.

Sora.... is uh. Well, she was very old and crumbly. So I smushed her together as best I could and baked her.

If it doesn't work out (I certainly wouldn't do that for a pro piece LOL), I'll just use that staff for another Sora pose or for Mori, since they use the same weapon.

Sure, I can finish something old that's been on the backburner for quite a while...  Well, portions thereof, anyways!

My main areas of focus for this month:

  • Finish up Wyrmgear's greenstuff additions, and get him at least covered in primer
  • Finish my Skaven Warlord for the Unrelenting Tide.  Bonus points if the Warplock Engineer and at least five of the poison wind globadiers are done too
  • Additional work on Ebonwrath.  Sure, I'd love to actually complete him, but right now my goal is to get the base coats for all three colours, and have a pattern blocked in.  Anything more than that is icing on the cake!
  • Prime, paint, and finish at least one mini for Furiously Fluffy Howling Hounds - I'm thinking either the Reaver, or Toghra.  Bonus points if it's both, and double bonus points if Krokuta is finished as well.

While I'd love to have more goals than that, for the time being I definitely seem to prefer seeing a good amount of progress on one model (or a few models) than I do a whole lot of nothing (aka say, twenty minis are in progress, but every few days it still feels like not much has been done since attention has been split across so many things)

Yeaaaah... Not so much got done...

- Wyrmgear has some of the stuff done, but it will be another three sessions minimum before I finish his wings (it's easier doing just one side at a time, no having to go back and fix something because you pressed a finger into something), and maybe another session after that for additional little things (finishing up the engine and spine to wing section, his horns, and various other details I may choose to add in).  Sure, I'll be doing more work on the one side of a wing tonight, but still. ::p:

- Skaven army barely got any attention other than a group pic and some more bases...

- Ebonwrath got more of his primary colour, as well as a bit of orange highlights here and there, so I'm counting it as some progress! ... And I kind of know where the blacks bits will be.

- The gnolls were too busy partying (aka I spent a LOT of time gaming this month and I don't mind that fact)

Between getting a new* Switch game and going out of town yet again I didn't get much painting done in the second half of May.  Perhaps June will be better.  At least it will involve less traveling, but perhaps more gaming.

*New to Switch but actually an older game.

So not much of my original plan was completed. I got the cowgirls done, but no revenants and no planning done on my Gencon project. Three goblins painted and several more close to being done in June. Got a few Bones and metal furniture and dungeon decor done as well. Got a Dire wolf that is almost based as well. Might get him done tonight.

Blame @Bathory for the thread title and unofficial goal for this month...

If you're like me, you've got a bunch of unfinished projects collecting dust. Rather than start something new, why not finish something old?

My goals:

Finish stone giant and these guys

Surprise. It's me. I'm the next Quisitor too.

      The obligatory roolz posting:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara (possibly) will post a question of her own choice.
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.)
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.

I will be posting late the night before as I won't be awake super early in the morning.

Huh usually I put one of these up sooner than this. Just been busy I guess.
      Who's all going?
How did you fair in the hotel lottery?

       So Sunday was event registration.
Did you get into the events you wanted?

My group did fairly well at the hotel thing this year even though we had to split the group this year. both hotels are fairly close.
I got into most of the events I wanted. had some issues with the priority system preventing me from getting into events because it conflicted with another event that I would only be going to if I hadn't gotten into an earlier time. Yet some how it did allow me to sign up for 2 Speed paints that conflicted with other events that I got into. (and I only realized one before paying)
Also I just a bit ago remembered that I wanted to do a Frostgrave event but they are all sold out already.

I was at the 2018 Adepticon in Schaumburg, Illinois last month helping out at the Reaper Paint & Take tables.

I took pictures of the stupendous international Crystal Brush competition entries and other minis and terrain with an eye towards the interests of the people on this forum. Also some fun cosplay and miscellaneous interest.

I can't guarantee my photographs are great. I was using two cameras with very different capabilities and strengths and I am not a professional photographer. Some of the pictures use a very harsh flash because it allowed for super sharp enlargements of detail, something I thought painters here would be interested in.

I didn't know which entries would win the Crystal Brush competition, and as it turns out I missed the third-place winner. I have got pictures of the first and second place winners.

So to begin with, here is this year's first place entry, "Apocalypse", a diorama by Michal Pisarski.

And this is the second place winner, "The Name of the Wind", a diorama by Sergio Calvo. My pictures of this are not so good, I'm afraid.
