May 17: Can you think of a character from a book/movie/etc that would be fun in a typical D&D playthrough? What class(es) or abilities would they learn?

Cayde-6 from Destiny 2, because when you first meet him he's this super epic badass, aaaand then you get to go rescue him from his silly shenanigans while the twin sisters (known as the AI for his ship) mock him the entire time.  The ship's AI would make for some interesting players too, but the big question is: which ones the evil one?

But he's definitely a character, that's for sure!

Silk, aka Prince Kheldar of Drasnia. He'd be a most excellent rogue, both in spycraft and acrobatics.

Mulan, because she's awesome. She'd be a fighter with many points in disguise.

Shallan from the Stormlight Archives. She'd definitely be an illusionist wizard. For that matter, just add the whole main case of that series. You'd have a ton of epic warriors, some of whom can friggin' fly.

Todd, of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. He sucks, but has outstanding luck.

May 16: Have you made any punny, silly, or ingenious character or location names?

I like clever, meaningful names, sometimes with non-obvious meanings.  (See for example what Xiwo Xerase means.)  I have also been known to take a basic description of a place, translate it into some other language via Google Translate, and change it slightly into an acceptable name.

I try to avoid punny and silly because my tolerance for puns is much higher than some of the people I game with and because we don't run comedic games (although maybe we should sometime).

Sophie from the book Howl's Moving Castle could be interesting.  I'm not sure how much I can share without spoiling the book though.

Princess Cimmorene from the enchanted forest chronicles by Patricia C Wrede. I don't think a specific class fits her, but she'd have a bit of everything, with a strong side of home economics. She dabbled in small magics, whacked a few things with a sword, melted some wizards, but mostly she used creative thinking and diplomacy. She's have a pretty high wisdom (lots of sense), above average intelligence and charisma. And bonuses to making desserts.

Bard maybe?  Good choice, by the way.

Funnily enough, I was thinking just yesterday that the entire cast of the Tremors series looked like an RPG group gone crazy. I'm not sure who'd be what, but ... they have RPG archetypes written all over them....

I think Rick Deckard (the Blade Runner) would be a pretty interesting concept for a Ranger (Monster Slayer sub-class, maybe?). And obviously, his favoured enemy would be Constructs.

Burt the Wizard, founder of Tactical Spellcraft.....perhaps every dungeon in the setting would be one of his prepper stashes.....and a definitive answer to just how much ammo can a bag of holding contain.

Harry Dresden!  Wizard for Hire!  (I have an idea how I would want him to advance in 3.5 along the book storylines).

Piper from Charmed. I guess she'd learn... witch bolt. *dodges tomato*

Raimundo from Xiaolin Showdown, because he's an overconfident jerk and a monk, and an elementalist.

There was this little grey cat that I was never anything but nice to (and that included filling her food bowl)...

I would have asked her, “Why are you so scared / what are you scared of?”

(Her brother was the friendliest cat ever...wanted to be everyone’s best friend.)

Huh usually I put one of these up sooner than this. Just been busy I guess.
      Who's all going?
How did you fair in the hotel lottery?

       So Sunday was event registration.
Did you get into the events you wanted?

My group did fairly well at the hotel thing this year even though we had to split the group this year. both hotels are fairly close.
I got into most of the events I wanted. had some issues with the priority system preventing me from getting into events because it conflicted with another event that I would only be going to if I hadn't gotten into an earlier time. Yet some how it did allow me to sign up for 2 Speed paints that conflicted with other events that I got into. (and I only realized one before paying)
Also I just a bit ago remembered that I wanted to do a Frostgrave event but they are all sold out already.

Blame @Bathory for the thread title and unofficial goal for this month...

If you're like me, you've got a bunch of unfinished projects collecting dust. Rather than start something new, why not finish something old?

      My goals:
Finish stone giant and these guys

I was at the 2018 Adepticon in Schaumburg, Illinois last month helping out at the Reaper Paint & Take tables.

I took pictures of the stupendous international Crystal Brush competition entries and other minis and terrain with an eye towards the interests of the people on this forum. Also some fun cosplay and miscellaneous interest.

I can't guarantee my photographs are great. I was using two cameras with very different capabilities and strengths and I am not a professional photographer. Some of the pictures use a very harsh flash because it allowed for super sharp enlargements of detail, something I thought painters here would be interested in.

I didn't know which entries would win the Crystal Brush competition, and as it turns out I missed the third-place winner. I have got pictures of the first and second place winners.

So to begin with, here is this year's first place entry, "Apocalypse", a diorama by Michal Pisarski.

And this is the second place winner, "The Name of the Wind", a diorama by Sergio Calvo. My pictures of this are not so good, I'm afraid.

      The roolz:

      The obligatory rules posting:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara (possibly) will post a question of her own choice.
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.)
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.
