77102: Ebonwrath, Dragon - Black, Lava Theme, OSL

Recommended Posts

That OSL is perfectly subtle. And the Blacks are spot on.

I just love the drama of the OSL-effekt.

Very nice work with the lighting effect. I also love the way you did the black on the dragon. I also love the work on the base. OK.......I guess I'm trying to say I love everything about it.

I've lurked for about a year - finally got up the courage to post. I've returned to painting after a break of many years. This is a recent figure I'm proud of  (my photography skills however....) - hope you enjoy

03157: Garwin Greywand, Wizard sculpted by Bobby Jackson.  Continuing on with practicing OSL.  I started by undershading with dark brown and purple and highlighted up to linen white on his body and base.  I did the same thing but with black and greys on his staff.

I then added the blue for his robe, using two sets of blues.  One set has no light effect colour added.  The other set has the yellow added.  I did the shading and highlighting on the dark side with the blues that didn't have the yellow added.  I used the set with the yellow added anywhere that I thought the light was going to hit, using the undershading as a guide as to where that would be.  The yellow I mixed with the blue is also used on the orb.

Then I added the other colours (particularly the staff and the fleshtones) using the same approach of mixing up two sets of the colours to use side by side.

Overall I'm pleased with the way it's turning out.  A few of the values seem out of balance though.  Particularly parts of the staff compared to the adjacent areas on his robe.  Some of the flesh tones that are further away from the orb need to be darker still.  The part of the staff directly below the orb seems too bright overall, especially right beneath the orb.  Still a work in progress.

I painted this figure as a white 2 years ago,  it took about 6 weeks of painting individual scales.
When I was done I thought it would probably look just as good if I drybrushed it.   I got the second one from a mini exchange or goodwill box, Dry brushing the body this time took 3 days.
For the wings I was inspired by a bearded dragon.
The nest was added per MiniSpawns request.  It was a stretch goal freebie from Oathsworn's Sensible Shoes line.
I have 2 bronze hatchlings as well, on TMM like the mother and one NNM.

These two minis are the same character, one in an action pose as an eldritch knight, and the other as arch mage of the mages college. These are for an upcoming pathfinder campaign. These are custom heroforge minis I printed and sculpted flames on the sword for added effect.

When some warlocks and warcasters go epic, they don't change all that much.  This is not the case with Thagrosh, who seems to be slowly transforming into a full on dragon.
For this project, my client wanted me to create a very different look for Thagrosh.  I pitched him a couple ideas, and he really loved the concept of giving Thagrosh the Magma Dragon treatment.
So here he is, in all his fiery glory.
