Getting to Know You, June 2018

Recommended Posts

Surprise. It's me. I'm the next Quisitor too. ::D:

The obligatory roolz posting:

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.

1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara (possibly) will post a question of her own choice.
2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.)
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.

I will be posting late the night before as I won't be awake super early in the morning.

June 1: What are some of your personal or funny mondegreens in film, songs, or other media?

A mondegreen is a mishearing of a phrase and substituting similar sounding words so the phrase makes sense.

Thanks, pinkymadigan!

I should probably add a date to this.

UB-40 - Take me by the Hand.

Due to this guy's accent I can't help hearing: Take me by the Ant.

My favourite is in a song by Clannad.  The lyrics are in Gaelic, so I don't know what they are really saying, but to me it sounds like:

We will eat yer budgie!

Weasel stomping music, weasel stomping music....

Tune to "Please don't stop the music" by a hiphop/pop singer who is the reason I have to make rules on the syllabus regarding the correct spelling of my name.

June 2 and 3: Which paint in your collection do you use the most?

Bonus! Try using the opposite color this weekend/next time you paint!

Thanks, Xiwo Xerase!

Probably Nightshade Purple. It isn't the one that gets used by highest area, but it seems to work its way onto every model. Its opposite? Like... Linen White? I use that one a lot too already!

Currently it's Citadel Macragge Blue spray to cover my Ultramarines, but after that it would be Citadel Retributor Armour (shiny gold!). I have a lot of work to do.

Almost every figure I paint gets Brown Wash applied somewhere. But then I do use a lot of browns and grays, so it's somewhat fitting there. I also find it useful when toning blonde hair down a bit. It also gets used on metals and other colors of clothing for a used/dirty effect.

Linen White is another that I abuse often since when lightly washed with Rainy Gray it is perfect for white clothing.

Stormy Gray and Rainy Gray probably rival the Brown Wash in terms of constant use.

As to the opposite, that would probably be somewhere in the pastel range and will have to wait until I get around to my ideas concerning machine gun armed fairies and other potted plant friends.

Black & white: I do a black wash then a white dry brush on EVERYTHING  I paint.

Not a single color, but I tend to use a lot of dark colors in my painting (this makes sense for bad guys, sometimes not so much for good guys).

I will attempt to do the bonus (hopefully later on today).

Huh usually I put one of these up sooner than this. Just been busy I guess.
      Who's all going?
How did you fair in the hotel lottery?

       So Sunday was event registration.
Did you get into the events you wanted?

My group did fairly well at the hotel thing this year even though we had to split the group this year. both hotels are fairly close.
I got into most of the events I wanted. had some issues with the priority system preventing me from getting into events because it conflicted with another event that I would only be going to if I hadn't gotten into an earlier time. Yet some how it did allow me to sign up for 2 Speed paints that conflicted with other events that I got into. (and I only realized one before paying)
Also I just a bit ago remembered that I wanted to do a Frostgrave event but they are all sold out already.

We're still going strong! Incredible. It's been a bit, so poke me if I ask a duplicate. I've missed y'all.

Blame @Bathory for the thread title and unofficial goal for this month...

If you're like me, you've got a bunch of unfinished projects collecting dust. Rather than start something new, why not finish something old?

      My goals:
Finish stone giant and these guys

I was at the 2018 Adepticon in Schaumburg, Illinois last month helping out at the Reaper Paint & Take tables.

I took pictures of the stupendous international Crystal Brush competition entries and other minis and terrain with an eye towards the interests of the people on this forum. Also some fun cosplay and miscellaneous interest.

I can't guarantee my photographs are great. I was using two cameras with very different capabilities and strengths and I am not a professional photographer. Some of the pictures use a very harsh flash because it allowed for super sharp enlargements of detail, something I thought painters here would be interested in.

I didn't know which entries would win the Crystal Brush competition, and as it turns out I missed the third-place winner. I have got pictures of the first and second place winners.

So to begin with, here is this year's first place entry, "Apocalypse", a diorama by Michal Pisarski.

And this is the second place winner, "The Name of the Wind", a diorama by Sergio Calvo. My pictures of this are not so good, I'm afraid.
