Main problem with higher quality miniatures is that boardgamers won't pay for them, and, as an entirity, have more money than miniature enthusiasts.

However, of course, that doesn't mean you can't buy high quality miniatures separately from their rulesets, or find a company that offers both. Slumbering Oblivion has both miniatures and an upcoming game, but the miniatures are $12+ apiece, far more than a boardgamer will pay. Call of Cthulhu RPG and Strange Aeons miniature skirmish games let you supply your own miniatures. But Cthulhu Wars with resin Fenris miniatures? I don't want to know how much that would cost! ::o:

If I buy this I'm going to keep it hidden, paint it when noone is around, and then volunteer to DM the next time either of my groups finishes our adventures... and lead up to a big boss fight at the end, lean over and pull this out of a box and (gently) slam it on the table.

Or maybe take the time to build a gaming table with a trap door and an elevator to have him rise up... and toss some dry ice in there with him...1

There's a youtube video of that humorously large Cthulhu and lots of other miniatures too here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxhvN9jMd1Q

I wish the big Cthulhu didn't have all those sucker pods things all over its back and butt.  See 52 seconds in.  Reminds me of Zombicide: Invader.

There also appears to be a more reasonably-sized Cthulhu visible at 20 seconds in.

Wow! That baby is tiny!

Assuming the mini is 32-35mm, the baby can't be more than 25mm.

Really, the paint job on the baby's clothes are really astonishing, although I think some of the shadows and the general feel for the baby's hair aren't quite right - it feels like there's barely any hair at all.  I think the painter should try returning to that area and giving it another pass.

At last a properly scaled cthulhu! I have to have it. IA IA and all that.

....I wonder what that "miniature" will do to shipping costs.

comment removed because incorrect.

Happy the base game is 100.  Expected it to be more.

Unhappy that the big Cthulhu exclusive gameplay is limited to SOME people and not to be shared.  I don't need the novelty-sized Cthulhu but would like the game components.

Cant say I'm not disappointed. Now they have  exclusives inside their own projects. I'm okay not getting the figure, but I would want the gaming materials. Sell me the gaming materials please.

      About
      DEAD MAN'S CHEST
Squire Olsen, Dr. Edwards, and the rest of the EOE gentlemen having asked me to help promote the whole particulars about this Treasure Island Kickstarter, from the beginning to the end, keeping nothing back but the bearings of the Casting Room, and that, only because there is still castings not yet purchased, I take up my pen in the hope of being paid by John in the year of grace 2018, and go back to the time when John first presented his plan for this Kickstarter and the stained old Salesman with the sabre cut first took up his lodging in the EOE Office. I remember him looking over his desk and whistling to himself, then breaking out in that old Casting Room Pirate Song:
“Fifteen men of a dead man's chest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter, Drink and the devil had done for the rest, Yo ho ho and a Pirate Kickstarter”
The first 4 sets include all the named Characters from the book.
      THE TOUGHEST OLD SALTS
The 5th Set includes the Characters in the book that were not named. I have taken the liberty of calling them The Toughest Old Salts.
"We got together in a few days a company of the toughest old salts imaginable--not pretty to look at, but fellows, by their faces, of the most indomitable spirit.”
      THE BLACK SPOT DEAL
"...But what is the Black Spot Deal, John?", I asked.
"It's a Rare Deal, Mate. People keep their weather eye open for such deals, then buy them on their honor.
People who is smart as paint is likely to lose their dead lights if they don't see how good this deal be. A collection of the finest Pirate's Pewter. 30 Dirty Scoundrels, Monkeys, Artillery, Barrels & Treasure Chests and even Captain Flint himself"
Why are you talking like this John? "Yarrr, I dunno" he replied
All miniatures 28mm scale and are cast in fine Pewter. Miniatures are supplied unpainted and a few require a little assembly.
      Risks and challenges
      The Major challenge is time
Most of the design work has been done eliminating the lion's share of work needed for pre-production.
We are working with Fortress Figures to do the Molding and initial casting. Jeff and Ben are highly decorated Veterans of the Kickstarter industry and have over a hundred successful Kickstarters under their belts!
I am very confident that we will meet all deadlines in plenty of time.

The Homestarrunner folks have a kickstarter up for Trogdor!! the Board Game.

There is an option to get the game with some cute meeples, or a set of miniatures.

Anyone think they can make those minis look really good?  It is certainly a challenge.

So you have seen the minis but what about the rules doc? Well, here is just one example of the art quality thanks to the incredible talents of April Prime! Amazingly, this is still work in progress, but she is working on art for every dog and a few bonus pieces as well....hmmm..maybe art prints should be available...

Here's a small piece of Dungeons and Doggies fiction to enjoy! Every mini will have an associated 'icon character' pre generated in the rules pack, and for the Cleric role we have Cerysse, gentle but determined protector of her friends. Many thanks to Kate, our writer, for providing this and many other story pieces for the project! We will follow up with a rules preview for the Companion Domain soon!

      Hello All,
My miniatures company, Deraj Studios, is launching a kickstarter campaign to produce a new line of true-scale 32mm miniatures from a fantastical version of the Sub-Sahara on Tuesday, July 31st. The eventual purpose of these miniatures is for use in my in-development skirmish game, Portals: Worlds Collide.
In the meantime, they're an excellent choice of miniatures for your favorite flavor of pen & paper roleplaying game, as well as in games of Frostgrave, Kings of War, Open Combat and a variety of other 'minis-agnostic' games in the 28mm-32mm scales.
Here are some of the miniatures that are going to be featured in the campaign:

Mudlings - 18 and 19mm to the top of their heads.

Brute Boulder Tosser - 28mm to the top of his head

Brute Beater - 34mm to the top of his head

Slorn Packbeast & Tryl Merchant - 65mm to the top of Merchant's head, 55mm to the top of Slorn Packbeast's head.

Grum Snatcher - This miniature will be 85mm to the top of his head.

Grum Shaman - This miniature will be 85mm to the top of his head.

Grum Berserker - this miniature will be 85mm to the top of his head.

Grum Seer - This miniature will be 35mm to the top of his head.

Grum Berserker & Shaman Set, WIP Sculpt.

We are a growing tabletop games company producing a line of true 32mm fantasy figures inspired by various folklore around the world. Our previous campaign and the resulting miniatures from it were based on Slavic fantasy, I'm excited to explore my ideas for fantastical versions of different cultures with you all.

I'll be updating this post as the launch date draws nearer with more of the miniatures and concept art featured in the campaign, as well as a few spotlights on the artists of Deraj Studios.

      Thank you all, c&c appreciated.

      - Jared Anderson of Deraj Studios
