Getting to Know You: Sept 2018

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Getting to Know you, September 2018 Edition.

Here are the roolz, copied directly from @Crowley's post from last month

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.

1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and take my place...

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.

The most important thing is to have fun! In fact, its now mandatory

To start us off this month we have a non-soup related question from @TGP

Saturday, September 1:

Do Wolpertingers warble or do they just fall down?

They warble moments prior to gently toppling.

I'm confused, to warble means to sing for a bird.

So why couldn't the wolpertinger sing while falling?

warble1
ˈwɔːb(ə)l/
verb
verb: warble; 3rd person present: warbles; past tense: warbled; past participle: warbled; gerund or present participle: warbling
  1. 1.
(of a bird) sing softly and with a succession of constantly changing notes.
"larks were warbling in the trees"
synoniemen: trill, sing, chirp, chirrup, chirr, cheep, twitter, tweet, whistle, chatter, squeak, pipe, peep
"larks warbled in the blue sky"

They mainly warble.  They warble in the hours before and after their prey are active so they don’t frighten off their prey.  There are different warblings for mating and for announcing territorial claims.

As predators, falling down is ungrateful and not conducive to catching dinner.

Nah, they just linger and give you a minipet. :P

They are the perfidious servants of Mothman, so the "warbling" is them relaying information back to him about potential targets. As to the falling down, they are simple minded creatures so some cheap beer in the birdbath will cause this. It is best to turn them over to the garden gnomes before they come to.

They usually fall down shortly after they put their left foot in, put their left foot out, put their left foot in and then shake it all about.

Now that I know what they actually are, I see that they come from the same minds that brought us the jackalope and Jenny Haniver.

Wait, you mean they're actually something, and not just an Octoberfest related quest in WoW?

*looks it up*  Okay, those are the most epic and awesome creations ever.

You thought you were rid of me... you thought "Thanks Gygax's Leather Dice Bag, July is over and we're through with Crowley's stupid questions!"

      YOU WERE ONLY HALF RIGHT!

July IS over, but I HAVE MORE STUPID QUESTIONS!!

Now, as a reminder, the obligatory rulze posting:

I'm going to go walk the dogs, and then post the first question of the month...

Surprise. It's me. I'm the next Quisitor too.

      The obligatory roolz posting:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara (possibly) will post a question of her own choice.
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)

I will be posting late the night before as I won't be awake super early in the morning.
