Oct 23: What kind of electronics do you use daily?

  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Various Kindle Fire tablets
  • A laptop that was fairly high end when I bought it a few years ago, so it's only now starting to show its age.
  • Nikon D810
  • Work computer that I don't have to manage so don't really track
  • Other random things that include computers like microwave oven, car, ....

Pixel 2 XL, work PC, and Surface Pro for main gizmos.

Do you like that Pixel? As might be suspected from my using a Note 3, I'm in the market for a new phone but hesitant to spend the price that they would like me to spend.

Oh boy...  What's our definition of electronics?

If we're talking computers and similar devices:

  • Work-issued iPhone
  • Work-issued laptop
  • Personal iPad Pro
  • Personal laptop

For wider definitions...

  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Stereo receiver, TV, and Apple TV (for music streaming)
  • Refrigerator

For even wider definitions...

  • Alarm clock
  • Desk fan at work
  • Desk phone at work
  • Electric lights

iPhone 5 (it's ooooooold), work computers, stupid work phone, tv & it's attachments, mundane things like fridge, stove, clothes washer (it sings!), and can opener (which Hubby thinks is an evil device intent on his demise).

I depend on my laptop. Being part of a very small organization, I use the same laptop for both work and personal use, so save the company some cash.

I also have a smart phone, and a tablet that I use pretty much every day. My phone pairs with my car, which doubles as both a portable sound system and speaker phone, so maybe that counts? Our thermostat is pretty analog, so it doesn't count for much.

Discounting ancillary devices, like my cable modem, network router, etc. That's pretty much what I use on a daily basis. Lady Klarg uses the TV, DVR, her own phone, tablet, and laptop.

We own a bunch of other specialty electronics for video, entertainment, etc., but I don't think we use any of it close to daily.

My coffee maker & my PC are about it for daily use...I am a Neanderthal...at least tech-wise.

I love my Pixel. If you can still find the 2 it is cheaper, but the 3 was just released, so I expect them to run out stock.

For some reason, despite being technically and creatively inclined, I've never been good on either side of the camera, and the Pixel's software lessens that burden on me quite a bit. I can take what used to be crap shots and now they come out rather decent. The hardware on the camera isn't as technically impressive, but the software is way beyond what other phones are doing. As for the rest of the functionality, it's very good, I have always liked Android for an OS. Assistant is fine, runs well, decent battery life, looks good. No complaints.

When it comes to games, my own ineptitude is my greatest enemy.

My Chromebook and MP3 player are my main two.

General household-wise, there's also the TV, cable box, DVD player, fridge, stove etc.

Phone (Samsung Galaxy s8), often my Kindle, and my laptop. It is a 6 year old Alienware mx14 - a fat little thing but still chugging away. Kitchen stuff - stove, fridge, microwave, electric tea kettle. Used to use a super old iPad for some games, but it is out of commission (first generation).

Home:

Home computer. Built it from parts.

Bose noise cancelling headphones.

Surprisingly huge chromebook

No-frills coffee maker

Phone. Some LG android thing. Does the job. Makes calls and texts

Work:

Work computer. It's approaching 12 years old, sounds like a biplane just got shot down

Master File. It dates to the Kennedy era

Off-brand noise cancelling headphones. They're not Bose they're Boise. Okay, not that bad. Instructions were still in Chinese tho. There was poetry :winkthumbs:

Three separate coffee makers varying from no-frills to someone's single cup high pressure frilly thing with the coin jar next to it (it's 50 cents for the privilege)

Phone. Some LG android thing. Does the job. Gives me radio and podcasts

Electronic access card

Phone. Desk phone. Rarely used. I work night shift

I'm using a Moto Z2 right now (or Z squared, maybe. Never sure with the way graphic designers present the names of products anymore).

Generally speaking, I really like this phone. Good camera, good screen quality. I really like the attachment accessories for the phone; it has a magnetic back with a port for stuff. Usually I'm just using the wireless charger pack, but there's all sorts of stuff available: a speaker and stand, a projector, a Hasselblad DSLR... The list continues. Pretty cool. And Motorola has promised that future generations of the phone will be compatible with previous attachments.

Other than the phone, there's a work computer, a home computer, a personal laptop... Various home appliances (I love my LG washer and dryer)... They don't get daily use, but there's a PS3 and a Wii.
