Belated Question For Oct 3rd: What did you do while the Forum was Away?

Outside of work?

I investigated new electric ranges, since my current one (age unknown, suspected to be 13 years old) suffered a short circuit last night.  While my wife was making dinner, no less.

Pretty much my regular level of (non) activity, but without the pleasant distraction of the forum.

The day felt much longer than usual.

On the plus side... Uhm... My F5 key still works!

I attempted to get in all day to look for a question to answer... ::P: ...hung out on the Lizardmen Forum a bit, did one short (and dissapointing) shopping trip, and...

I interviewed for a new! job.

Oct 4: Almost all children draw for fun...but most kids give it up at some point; did you? If so when?

If not post a picture of a recent work for us to enjoy. (TGP)

I was surprisingly more productive throughout the day... And got other types of research done, including preparing a Reaper cart for tomorrow..

I technically gave up, technically didn't....  But I don't show my artwork to anyone, as I don't draw that often.

Usually it's 2D floor plans and whatnot, but occasionally I do still doodle.

While the forum was away I worked

I've never really given up art ever, though there are slumps. This is the last piece I did. I painted it last night.

I haven't drawn in years.

I used to draw a lot as a kid.  I still do it for fun on occasion, but usually I draw now to create concepts and solidify ideas for sculpts. I don't normally bother with things like shading and the like, since I really just want to get on to pushing putty.

Here is the most recent one that I can show at this time (full WIP here):

  • Went for a walk in the lovely, rainy, autumnal weather.
  • Visited the local library to check-out a book for work.
  • Went to work all afternoon.
  • Played a little Darkest Dungeon, after not having played it in a while.

Used to draw all the time as a younger version of myself; I don't really draw anything anymore.

I probably gave it up at some point in elementary school, when I realized I was a better writer than drawer.

Read scientific articles on beryl for work which muddled my brain into mush.

Is she a bad person? Does she have an interesting misery?

Gave it up in elementary school. In retrospect, I blame the art "teachers" that I had. At some point it became at least subconsciously apparent to me that I was unable to draw what was in my head, which turned into a negative feedback loop and eventually, like most kids, I just stopped.

I know that I wasn't completely hopeless, because years later I started doing the exercises in Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain* and was able to draw things that looked like things. Most of drawing is craft and eminently teachable. "Draw what you feel" is not teaching and is frankly malpractice from anyone claiming to be an art teacher.

And with that cheery note....

* Strongly recommended. The best foundational drawing book that I've seen.

Belated Question For Oct 3rd: What did you do while the Forum was Away?

I had my eyes examined...everything is older , but okay. I did some panting, & watched the AL Wild Card Game.

I have been spending less & less time on the PC. It just doesn't seem as satisfying/fun as it used to. SO the lack of Reaper time wasn't particularly upsetting.

Sometime during college, I think.  The art department was on a different schedule than the rest of the university so I was never able to fit classes in and my interest stalled. I was heavily into writing (newspaper, poetry club, school journal, etc) and I was working 30+ hours at two jobs on top of classes, so....

I tried picking it up again a couple years ago and realized I need some kind of guided motivation to get back into it.  It still looks like grade school scribbling and my hands don't do what I tell them.
