Day of the Dead couple - a WIP by DKS

Recommended Posts

Awesome start. Very nice!

I'm using the Duchess as a noble woman in one of my Vegas games. Oddly I never saw the skull ^_^

It either her or Ilseosa. (anther one you did.

Looking forward to what you have planned for both.

Beautiful sculpts!

I'd love to see a variant of these with the same hair, but skulls.

I could see a black background with lots of bright flourishes and embroidery working, but anything you do is going to turn out gorgeous.

Still equivocating over the costume colors, I pressed forward by painting their faces in the skull makeup, highlighting and glazing the hair to a more natural dark brown, and making the monochrome studies crisper and better-blended overall (gradations from Brown Liner to Weathered Stone to HD Solid White).

Then I tried "glazing" over the pics in Photoshop.

I made 2 separate layers for color overlays (1 for him, 1 for her), set the opacity for these layers to 30% (him) or 40% (her), and added color to the translucent layers, to get this:

This is the same study, but with higher opacity (60%) of the color layers:

And then with maximum opacity:

Interesting exercise, but I'm still not sure.

Derek, it may not be where you were going with it, but I think they would look awesome as just monochrome with accent color on the flowers or freehand.

They look so good in black and white already...It makes it seem they are from the spirit world.

As much as I love the coloured versions, I agree with this!

I'm currently painting a bust ( La Charra ) in a Dias de Muertos style.

So your WIP is more than interesting to me.

I love what you're doing here.

Sorry, folks.  Didn't finish in time for a holiday debut.  Guess I'll be very early for Dia de Muertos 2019.

I got in a 2-hour session on Friday.

Added color to the flowers; her chin/forehead makeup and skirt; his cloak, chest-sash, holster-ornament (red/orange), his sword and spurs (ocher/brass).

Freehand on her front ribbon.

Blending or texturing on various objects.

The current status:

So one of my players bought a hero forge 3d model and then printed it. I've based it, primed it and now I'm painting it in the color combination he requested. I have just finished the base layer (the goggles will be gold with green glass)
      Hope he's happy when it's finished :D

Hello everyone, I plan on crafting some blights out of polymer clay. Today I made the armatures out of copper wire and glue and pined them to some old 20mm bases. I plan on using fimo air polymer clay, decorative sand (maybe some rocks too), and a variety of dried tea leaves and spices. Then I will prime them using cheap spray paint and paint them using cheap acrylic paint. I hope they turn out nice. All kinds of tips, suggestion or criticism are welcome :D

Hi, ok so it seem having a long "put everything here" thread is not easy for moderator, I am opening a dedicated one for those WH40K orcs :)

I am done with the skin pass, obviously more details to go in with brush.
going next to get the other parts base coated I think , so I can get an overview of the overall look and color for those guys ( for now it look very green xD )

So I am reopening what will be a long and fun wip stuff :D hopefully !

For a start ( and to cut from my massive darkness dwarfs..actually still 3 to finish the serie I've got ), I have this nice Runewars Wraiths in my figures stock and that will be great opportunity to airbrush a bit !

And I just got them primed for now , using Vallejo grey primer..since they do have pretty light color regarding the box I did not want use any black for that part.

Well, I decided to start another WIP.  This one a sort of Halloween theme.  The Vampress  Siobhana, Vampiress by reaper.  Got some work done on her awhile ago and decided in the spirit of the season to try and finish her up.  Unfortunately I couldn't remember exactly the method I painted up the face, so I got as close as I could on the legs and hands.  Here's where she is at the moment.

As always, any C&C is always welcome.
