Lidless Eye Hobbies: 3D Print Tomb of Annihilation Monster & Heroes

Recommended Posts

More miniatures printed for my ongoing "Tomb of Annihilation" game.  All were printed on my Ender-3.

First, the Z-Rex, a file I nabbed off Thingiverse.

The eternal and ever-smelly Champion, Dragonbait!  File designed by the talented DM Workshop, Miguel Zavala.

I did have to replace his sword hand with an Empire bit.

Eretria, the party's Half-Elf Assassin.  Another design by Miguel Zavala, with a sword swap (still haven't gotten the settings dialed in for smaller weapons)

Last, the party's Forest Gnome Arcane Trickster, Onyx Timbers.  She ritually shaves her head (and eyebrows) every morning after a night time encounter with Hags.  This one was designed using DesktopHero3D...I didn't think I was finding any bald Gnome Rogues any time soon.

Awesome stuff. What are you printing on?

Creality Ender-3. It has been modded a bit but all were printed on it or under $20.

Love the T-rex zombie eating zombies for lunch! Imaginative stuff - sounds like a great game.

Their 5E entry actually allows them to cough up and spawn more standard Zombies.

So you have seen the minis but what about the rules doc? Well, here is just one example of the art quality thanks to the incredible talents of April Prime! Amazingly, this is still work in progress, but she is working on art for every dog and a few bonus pieces as well....hmmm..maybe art prints should be available...

Here's a small piece of Dungeons and Doggies fiction to enjoy! Every mini will have an associated 'icon character' pre generated in the rules pack, and for the Cleric role we have Cerysse, gentle but determined protector of her friends. Many thanks to Kate, our writer, for providing this and many other story pieces for the project! We will follow up with a rules preview for the Companion Domain soon!

My latest project was decided by a combination of the upcoming Blood Bowl team being named in my honor and wanting to do some Wee Folk in time for Saint Patrick's.  The Assault Group made a group of lovely Oldhammer styled Halflings that fit the bill.

They're painted in a slightly updated version of my original Empire colors.

They also had an option for Zombie versions of the Halfling Militia!

Hey there! It's been awhile. I've painted a few things recently, but it's been sporadic. I have plenty of minis to paint, but have been fighting sometimes to find the mood to or to find time.

Anyway! Personal crap aside, here is my rendition of the frost giant from the Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Miniatures line, which seems to be the same sculpt as the Harshnag from the Icons of the Realms series of pre painted minis.

Enough of my blabbering, on with the pics!

Unfortunately I didn't push the contrast a ton here. It's clear to see in hand, but it doesn't really show up in the photos all that well. Still good practice though. And he'll terrify my players all the same.

Another awesome themed 3D print file set is up on Kickstarter, "Titans of Legend"

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1426243056/titans-of-legend?ref=user_menu

Even dating to before recorded history, some of the greatest heroes and villains of myth and legend have been titanic in size. Giants, titans, and others strode the mythic landscapes, the earth quaking at their steps. Now you will be able to use your 3D printer to create 32mm scale figures of these legends, and include them in your Dungeons and Dragons campaign!
Reaching forth from Greece, France, Denmark, Cornwall, and the Basque region, these giants each include additional accessories, as well as a PDF file that includes their basic story, a statistics block for Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons, how to run them in a typical game, and potential adventure hooks to blend them into your campaign! In addition, each of the giants includes a pre-hollowed version for resin prints, and even pre-chopped, multipart versions (hollowed and not) for smaller 3D printers. Most of them can even be used as generic giants, to use how you want in your own campaign!
      CONTENTS
The following are the five giants, and their accessories, included as planned in the set. The Core Package includes Cormoran, Ferragut, and Grendel, while the Full Package includes all five:
      ARGUS
Argus Panoptes is a giant of Greek myth, a cowherd that served Hera with his very life. Included with him are  a generic Storm Giant based on him (with helmet and spear), and his beloved Dire Buffalo.
      .
      BASAJAUN
From the Basque region of France and Spain comes the Basajaun. Moderately friendly, and creators of the various henges and standing stones, they could also be used to represent various "furry" humanoids, such as yeti. They include two Basajaun, a singe henge, double henge, freestanding menhir, and an altar stone.
      .
      CORMORAN
Hailing from Cornwall, the cannibalistic and miserly Cormoran just might be immortal somehow. He includes files for two different casualties, and a ruined tavern wall.
      .
      FERRAGUT
A literary giant, pun intended, the epic "Horn of Roland" includes the mighty paladin Roland's duel with the Saracen giant, Ferragut. With Ferragut comes files to print basic Saracen soldiers, as well as the mighty Roland, himself!
      .
      GRENDEL
Though never fully given a physical description in the epic poem, Beowulf, the monster Grendel is, here, represented as part troll, and part giant. Whether used to represent Grendel himself, or shrunken down slightly and used as a troll, he includes the table and benches from the mead hall, Heorot, as well as his utterly epic foe, Beowulf.

I really like that they're all themed encounters with monsters, heroes, and some terrain.  They remind me of the "GameMastery Encounter" packs that Paizo used to make.
