The Room, but not in a "so bad it's good" way?

Am I close?

Last year I made him wear a Beast costume!

A piano... I have no idea what I will do with it, but I WANT it!

Played my first game today. Undead vs Goblins, in a kill the bard scenario. I was the undead, and I lost. But I think it's because we both were learning the game as we went, sharing a single rulebook. The scenario isn't one that really favors an army of slow units that have a commander who forgets about surge.

But I think we're gonna try to play some more in the near-ish future.

Kill Ronnie the Bard is not the best scenario for a first play through - but it is fun.  And the objective marker is hilarious!

The Auld Grump - at least it is easier than Capture the Giant - where the objective can swat you like a bug....

I'm working on putting together some more warband lists, and assembling the Ogres that I got. While putting the lists together, it seems like the Ogres are kinda crippled under the standard 200pt game unless you're fielding practically all goblins.

I understand that they're tough and big, and so they cost more, but their only ranged options are either Red Goblin Rabble, which are a poor Ra 7 for 9 points, or a single Boomer. Goblins are also the only mounted units you can take, save for a single mounted Ogre at a whopping +15 points if you're playing it as a campaign.

I really think they need to get the Ogre Shooters into the game. It's also interesting to see that they kind of switched the roles of the Brave and the Warrior from their roles in regular Kings of War.

We will see where it goes when they come out with the Ogre box for the game - none of the 'abridged' armies in the book are that great. Some of the stats don't even match the models. (Iron Watch as an example - the model has a rifle, which is not something that they can get as standard equipment.)

We have been handicapping by only allowing the choices from the book for all armies. (The book version of the Night Stalkers is... definitely sub-optimal. No Mind Screech.)

Easy Army has the expanded armies for all the armies that have boxes, and will be adding the rest as they are fleshed out.

The game is definitely a work in progress, and you can tell they kind of rushed it.

I'm still trying to figure out why they made Goblin Mawbeasts a regular 20mm base when in Kings of War the Mawbeast Pack is on cavalry bases.

Hrmmm... I thought that the Lower Abyssals and Succubi(hard plastics) were supposed to be new sculpts, which is why they used art instead of the sculpts during the campaign. The Lower Abyssals I got are the exact same as the ones that I got 2 years ago in a mystery box. The Succubi look like the old sculpts as well, and not at all like the concept art shown during the campaign. Also just now noticing some other issues, like the lower wings on the new gargoyles all being broken and at least one missing tail.

I'm wondering if it's too late to contact Mantic about the stuff like the missing bits? I'm not too worried about the succubi and lower abyssal sprues because they're still sprues of 5 units even if they aren't new sculpts like what I thought, so that's fine.

Found the missing tail. Assembled all of my abyssals that I got as part of the kickstarter except the resins, as well as some that I had from before.

The new flamebearers are nice, but either they only have one head and I forced a head from something else onto one, or the second head just doesn't fit well at all. The Hellequins look like something straight out of a Frazetta painting when you give them the axe, and close enough when they have the lance. The new gargoyles look pretty good, but I don't know if they needed to give them boobs. They also need their integrated bases trimmed a bit to fit on a 20mm base, and won't rank up in 20mm if their wings are attached.

The new abyssal guards also suffer from being unable to rank up due to their poses. In both options, poleaxe and sword & shield, their sculpting is a wide armed pose. The succubus lurkers aren't bad at ranking up though, and they look good too. My only complaint is that I wish they had a second head option, like maybe a version with the hood down.

All in all, they're good new models. Especially for a skirmish game. But if they're intended to replace or compliment existing models for regular Kings of War they're going to cause some problems because of the issues with forming ranks. You're pretty much going to have to do some minimum unit size multibasing for the likes of the gargoyles and abyssal guards. Flamebearers can probably fit more than minimums, but they'll also benefit greatly from multibasing.

No - the Lower Abyssals and the Succubi are still the old sculpts - but the Flame Bearers and Gargoyles are new sculpts - and pretty nice.

But then I also like the old Flame Bearer and Gargoyle sculpts. (Not really sure why the new sculpts were needed, to be honest, but they are nice.)

There are a couple of hero/character Succubi - which may be what you are thinking of. One has wings and a string of hearts, the other is wearing a cloak.

The Auld Grump - mind you, I have enough Sophies and other Bones demons that I have flexibility, even without the official models. ::P:

That one with the cloak... So nice to see that there's the whole female beauty thing going on, but she isn't coated in clothing repellent!  (aka she's actually more or less well dressed!)

Yeah, they may have to kick her out of Succubus Union Local 666 for that.

The Auld Grump - there are only 200 Locals, but for some reason they are all numbered 666, except for the ones numbered 69, and the lone local numbered 4:20.

That one would also make a nice Dark Elf Sorceress if you can lose the tail.

I better not look at Mantic too much, I already have a lifetime supply of minis ( with 2 KS coming to add to it), I have seen some nice stuff so far.

Tempting..

Megan calls her Darth Maul's* long lost sister.

Me, she reminds me of the demons in the computer game Oblivion.

* I cannot describe how much the fight scene against Dart Maul annoyed me - the actor playing Darth Maul knew what he was doing, while the Jedi were just waving their swords around. There should have been thin slices of deli style Jedi on the counter....

A really quick and dirty set of scenery using mantics library mini crate.  All told I have maybe 2 hours into the set.  I think it came out pretty well.  I wanted to see what these looked like and the could double for additional scenery on my Saga game.

Air brushes brown primer, followed by a drybrush of woodland brown and then a bunch of colors for the actual books

Hope you like what you see...

Kickstarter is Live and has reached the initial funding level:
      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/star-saga-the-sci-fi-dungeon-crawler?ref=nav_search

      From the Mantic Newsletter:
"Star Saga: The Eiras Contract will see players guide a team of space mercenaries on a mission to retrieve stolen data plans from a research facility orbiting a far-off alien world. Players will take on platoons of minions, powerful alien bosses and be forced to make difficult choices as the story takes unexpected twists and turns.

The spiritual sequel to Dungeon Saga, Star Saga introduces newly improved and stronger rulesets, 'learn as you go' rules for new players and, more detailed, advanced mechanics for seasoned gamers."

If it wasn't for Mantics long history of fulfilment issues/delays/changes I'd be tempted by this. It sounds like the game I've been waiting for.
Instead I'll likely just keep an eye on the Kickstarter and consider buying at retail.

So I'm painting up the Mantic Giant. I'm calling him James, because the head I'm using is very much a James Hetfield head.

      Say hi, James.

I started off by priming with a sample of Badger's Stynylrez that I got with last year's RCon swag bag and my Badger Patriot 105 airbrush. I'm pretty sure the primer is their olive green. I used the olive green because I couldn't find the sample bottle of the more off-white/yellow Stynylrez primer that I got from the swag bag two years ago. Then I found it after I finished priming and started trying to mix up a flesh tone. Go figure. I didn't take any pictures of the primed pieces, because all they were was olive green all over.

When mixing up my skin tone, I wanted something tanned looking, but darker and more bronzed than Reaper's tanned skin. I wanted it to look more like how the skin of someone who works outside all summer long tends to look, with that almost leather look that they tend to get. After all, a giant like this guy isn't going to be spending a lot of time indoors, especially not if he's part of an army.

So I started with Vallejo bronze fleshtone and leather brown in roughly equal parts. Which ended up too orange. So I upped the leather brown, and it was still too orange. So I added in Reaper Tanned Shadow, and I almost got it where I wanted. The final touch was some Reaper tanned skin, and I got it to be good enough. Don't ask me proportions, because after the first mix I have no idea. I just threw some color in, stuck it to the vortex mixer for a few seconds, and then looked again to see if I liked it. I finished it off by making it airbrush-ready with some Createx 4012 reducer.

In this picture, it's the unlabeled bottle in the middle. The other bottles are the paints I mixed together to get it.

Now, armed with my skintone, I decided that I wanted to try a different airbrush. So I broke out my Badger Renegade Krome for the very first time and started applying. The difference between the Krome and the Patriot is night and day because of one simple, but amazing, feature - an adjustable trigger stop. It's freaking sweet. No worries about over spraying massive amounts of paint accidentally, and you have so much more control over your lines because of it.

And the skin is where I stopped for the night.

So I picked this up today and it's so much more than I expected. Nice touch with the organizer. I'll be able to store my wizards tower set in it too.
I'm not working on these for a while, but I thought I'd post pictures etc of the whole thing as a before.

      1x blacksmith/stables, throne room, horse & cart

      Hey fellow nerds!

So I've got a few of the new Nightstalker minis from Mantic games, and I love 'em, for the most part, but would also love to add some diversity and fun to the mix.  They're all pretty weird, distinctive minis, so I'm not sure what Reaper Minis might have to mix in (and how I'd even begin to search for something...), so I thought I'd turn to the collective knowledge base for help!

Here's what the Mantic Nightstalker starter warband looks like:

I love the shadow-hounds (along the bottom of the pic), but they're the same pose.  Does Reaper have anything like 'em?

I'm not a huge fan of the scarecrow guys (called, wouldn't ya know it, "scarecrows") with the goofy hats.  They're approximately humanoid sized.  Does Reaper have any creepy "slender men" who look very spooky and otherworldly, and might fit in as scarecrows without goofy hats?

I love the Reapers (the eyeless humanoid sized alien things with spike-arms growing out of their backs - not to be confused with Reaper Minis!), and there's a "boss" version called a Reaper Souldrinker.  Mantic has thus far just painted up a Reaper differently to use as a Souldrinker.  Does Reaper have anything creepy to serve as a boss-man Reaper?  I have a few Tyranid bits (claws and such from Games Workshop) that I could use to make him all fancy.  What might you recommend?

The Butchers are pretty rad (The two big, three-armed guys at the top there).  Not sure I need another.  Does Reaper Minis have anything similar?

And I'm not super in love with the horrors (there are two in the picture, big mouths with purple smoke/energy surrounding them, directly above the Shadow-Hounds).  What sort of ghost/ horror/ weirdness might Reaper Minis have?

And I'm also not a huge fan of the Phantom (the eyeless purple ghost-y thing; one is next to a horror, one is at the top of the photo, between the two butchers).  Any good, creepy ghosts?  Games Workshop has a lot of new, neat ghost type figures, but I thought I'd try here first.  Any recommendations?

Not shown are spectres (fire-bolt spitting ghosts - the Mantic figure is pretty meh), needlefangs (40mm based swarms of unsubtantial teeth, eyes, and nastiness.  I don't have this figure, I don't think it's out yet, but it looks rad!).  I like the mindscreetch (a big, weird looking floating brain), a Shade (creepy looking mouth-eyes nasty.  Looks cool!), a banshee (odd female-ish model with a mouth where the head should be.  Not sure I like it...)

Anyway, anyone else playing around with these figures?  What do you think?  What are you swapping in for which figures?  Thanks!
