2019 RPChallenge Questions/Announcements

Recommended Posts

Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites.

Posting Non-Reaper Figures

When you post in Show off, please use the topic title line for the name of your creation, and use the tags for the manufacturer. That way, you're descriptive and search-friendly at the same time while giving credit where it's due. Use Tags liberally, for manufacturer, name, part number, modifications done, etc. These help our members find your model!

We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.

As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge again, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges.

FAQ

Reaper only? - No.

If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes.

Are speed paints acceptable - Yes.

Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes.

Based or unbased? - Yes.

Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes.

NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy

(This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases)

Medium and smaller = 1 ea

Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea

Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea

Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea

Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea

Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota rounded up

Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota

Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures.

If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. (not yet updated for the CAV II figures)

Spoiler

Thunderbird

Emperor

Ronin

Simba

Tiamat

Katana

Tyrant

Starhawk

Regent

Cataphract

Silverback

Kraken

If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually.

Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little or not as much as one would like, to start painting more.

You challenge begins...now!

And Our Mantra:

4 for the exchanges, something new to try

12 for the monsters, who in the dungeons moan

7 for the competition, to please the judges eye

19 for the table top, which will set the tone

9 for the players, doomed to see their characters die

One for the master painter on his ergonomic throne

In the well lit studio where no shadows lie

one tag to hue them all, one tag to bind them

one tag to bring them all and in the forum find them.

In the well lit studio where no shadows lie

Participants:

If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, post in the bi-monthly thread and include the tag RPChallenge

 Pending

The objective:

To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota

(each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list)

What qualifies:

Darn near anything!

Reaper/non-reaper!

Any material!

Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten!

Exchange minis!

Speed paints!

Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well)

Any Size!

Based/unbased!

Etc! (I think that covers everything)

Year long challenge
Pick a miniature of size large or greater to complete in the Jan-Feb Block. In Nov-December, purchase that same mini and repaint in the same scheme to see direct side-by-side improvement or changes in your methods

Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84372-january-february-rpchallenge/
March/April: 9
May/June: 9

July/August: 9:
Sept/Oct: 8:

Nov/Dec: 9:

Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this.

Unsure at this point.  Would like to get back to more painting, which this helps with, but really have to ramp up the job hunt the next few months, and then hopefully will have to deal with a new job.

So we'll see how Jan/Feb go.

A question comes to mind: Any word on when you might have a chance to update the CAV list for the KS II models? ^_^

Alright, I'll try some formality this year and see what happens.  I happen to be in a dragon binge this month.  Maybe having a reason will give me the actual desire to take pictures and post more often

I'm officially joining this challenge- I keep on talking myself out of posting pictures of my minis. Seriously, I chickened out at least half a dozen times in the last few months ::(: Hopefully this will help me get out of this daft, self depreciating rut that I've been stuck in. I'll probably be focusing on Reaper character minis, Infinity stuff and some GW nighthaunts. Oh, and the imminent massive pile of Bones from the kickstarter.....

I haven't done this before, but given my yearly goal is to clear out some Bones I'll give it a shot.  You have rulz though, so I'll probably break some.

Do the size definitions match the Reaper contest structure?  So "large" is 40-99mm, "huge" is 100+, etc?

Somewhat. This is a pretty unofficial contest. Everything used to count for 1 regardless of size (as it is 1 miniature) but the points system was added to help alleviate the 'crunch' if painting something big.

Some Stone Golems (SKU 77171) to challenge my players with in some future game session.

I had fun painting these Bones mushroom men (SKU 77345) to a tabletop standard.  Their faces are so derpy and cool!

A really quick and dirty set of scenery using mantics library mini crate.  All told I have maybe 2 hours into the set.  I think it came out pretty well.  I wanted to see what these looked like and the could double for additional scenery on my Saga game.

Air brushes brown primer, followed by a drybrush of woodland brown and then a bunch of colors for the actual books

Hope you like what you see...

I Don't have much to go on with this dragon.  its another one that has been sitting half finished on my shelf forever.  the bottom has some script on the bottom that looks like FWS and an 8.  other than that I don't have any clue where it comes from.

but I finally dusted the mini off, freshened up the red (It was becoming a pink dragon) and decided to display it here.  hope everyone enjoys!

What else to finish off the month of January but another dragon from my shelf of shame?  This is Ollie.  Ollie is from Impact miniatures and is supposed to be a mascot for one of the bloodbowl teams.  Tom Acquired the license to produce him and I got a copy.  I used him to test a number of different red effects and styles while working on another, bigger dragon.  The skills may not have panned out like I wanted but Ollie still came out pretty well and deserved to be finished and shown off.  Pictures are still with a phone camera but at least I got to my light box!  So without further ado:
