  1. Almost done! Just some weathering to do tomorrow and the two torches on the front. Left those blank because I need to put a lighting effect there tomorrow and I want to paint them when I have time with the same colors. Tonight, I'm done! Thanks guys who commented above I appreciate it glad you're following along!

  2. I don't blend (it takes too long ;)). Hence layering. :) By painting the layers the transition is made by the colour density, not by mixing paint. Ok finished the next model, and also my Pulp model. Sadly when I took the photos I had one of those "OMG that looks like that" moments, however I'm not going to spend the time to go back and fix this for what is ultimately a tabletop miniature.

  4. Opening a recently ordered Learn to Paint #1 Kit, I was blown away to discover that rather than the samplers of the six paints, all the paints in the kit were full sized bottles. Some days are just good like that. Thank you, Reaper!

  6. Hello everybody! It's not like I've been out... well, I've been. LOL. Just extremely busy this last month(s), business trips included. I just re-arranged all the painting stuff, also cleaning some new Infinity minis I got (and I am enthusiastic about painting!). I also put together a mockup for my Here be Dragons entry: ... but I am expecting some minis from Reaper to finish the scene. The base is part-way there, as you see, but I am enjoying drafting a story on a diorama again :) Now, to out Dancer Girl! I broke out my most expensive brush to date (finally!), put my fears

  8. Ah. Yes. This is known as "The buglips Syndrome" Initial indifference to, or even possible dislike of, Bones followed by an almost manic compulsion to collect and paint them all. Additional symptoms include large amounts of forum posting as well as possible ornithological pursuits.

  9. Back in 2006 a few new friends invited me to be part of a Legend of the Five Rings game. I, of course wanted some nice minis for the game, so I shopped around a bit & found AEG/Reapers Clan War minis. Here are the three PCs from that game: The Lion is Ikoma Ryu, a straight-laced, honorable samurai. Very by-the-book, very much a stick in the mud, very good guy to have your back. The Crab is my chracter: Hiruma Tokaji, he had few social graces, and fewer qualms doing whatever it took to complete a mission (assassinating enemy leaders, setting fire to an opposing army's food, sowing se

  16. This is a Kickstarter I feel deeply for. I would love to see this succeed. Don't do it for me, do it for those poor gameless kids. Bring some happiness and valuable skills to their lives! This one is local to the north Texas area, so if you are close by there should be an even better reason to participate. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/230765980/t-a-b-l-e-tabletop-and-boardgame-learning-expo T.A.B.L.E.(Tabletop and Boardgame Learning Expo) March 29th through 30th, 2014 Roll2Play is planning a two day expo event to bring an audience together that normally doesn’t play table top g

  17. Aren't they precious. I just want to take them home and roll dice against them! These were sort of speed painted in 1 week. I used NMM on the bronze and chainmail, but shaded metallics for the blades. In case you're wondering, I deliberately put the heart tattoo on the wrong side. You know orcs...

  18. Alright! Thanks kindly Astounding, love that word! Yeah that's a big project to tackle right there, hopefully this will give you some ideas for sure, I made sure to include just about everything I usually do when doing buildings or terrain or anything with wood/stone/tile etc... so it should be at least a good reference. Thank you, wait no further my friend, it's all here! Now I have to weather the whole thing and shoot footage of the completed deal which I'll post here once I get it all sorted today or tomorrow. The heat is rising around here, maybe I won't want to sit

  19. Sorry I forgot to post these yesterday, Day 5 I managed to get the wings mostly done, with the exception of one small patch under that wing claw. I plan on waiting until tomorrow before I separate the wing flanges, and get that spot. Day 6 All I got yesterday was most of the rear legs, at least the places I could reach. It's hard to reach all of the spots, mostly because the base is in the way. However, I didn't actually secure Kaladrax to the base. So it's not an insurmountable problem. On the smaller wing claws I used Reaper's Blodstained Red. Mostly to see how they lo

  20. Finally I had a day with nothing to keep me from painting. Unfortunately my brush control sucked today (possibly from stiffness due to sitting and sorting Bones for 6 hours last night....). Mostly did metallics today. The gold and brass will definitely need a second coat and I'll likely hit the scroll work on the armor and ritis and such with one or the other of those colours. You can also see a good number of spots that are now metallic but shouldn't be...sigh. At least you can't see the worst one. I hadn't put any colour on the cap of the Rhulic Gold I used on his belt, so I sl

  22. So.....I started painstakingly counting each and every figure and in my 3 Vampire boxes, ticking them off on the spreadsheet.....and then decided I just didn't care. I had so many for so cheap that I wouldn't sweat it if I was missing a few. They will be available at retail for cheap, and I have checked all my big figures and the parts all seem to be there. I got such a good deal on these I think I'm just going to call me and Reaper even.

  23. Looking at the other IMEF members, they all needed a little more trimming/GS fixing. So I started on Sarah Blitzer, IMEF Sniper. I'm having to wing her a bit, since there aren't any versions of her in the Inspiration Gallery to take cues from. All the same colors as Sarge on the base coat, excepting GW Necron Abyss for the hair. Yes, she's going to be sporting blue hair. Why not? About 1:15 in.

  24. I bent paperclips to hold the smaller figures/weapons into the position i wanted. Then i could dunk into boiling/freezing water using pliers and never had to worry about holding the softened pieces exactly where i wanted them; the paperclips did the work for me.

  26. Finishing the Feet: So I finished the rear legs and front feet up to the elbows. They might need a few tweaks, but for the most part are done. The front feet will look a bit strange until I flesh out the rest of the legs and body: Skulls: Next, I under pinned the skull shapes and necks: Zombie Puppies!! Eye balls are a quite a bit larger than most people realize. I always love this stage as they look like zombies. Don't worry, it will be right once the skin goes on. Dobbie Tails! Questions or comments welcome

  27. I'm still fiddling with that marble tutorial, but I got a bit of it done. I might appropriate the current base project for my jade dancing girl project! I was trying to figure out how to base her and her little snake buddy! The colors are close enough. She's a really tiny figure, so getting the detail work done is painful. I think I pushed the hair highlights too much if such a thing is possible. It almost looks metallic. Which is may be ok, since it's supposed to be pulp. I need to smooth out the face a bit more. I like the way the sheer fabric effect is coming along. She's sk

  29. And... Sarge is done. Played a little bit with some basic NMM and OSL just for fun. Tonight's colors: P3 Battlefield Brown P3 Bootstrap Leather GW Nuln Oil GW Codex Grey P3 Thamar Black P3 Marrow White GW Evil Sunz Scarlet GW Sotek Green Vallejo Glaze Medium Battlefield Brown was used to base the, er, base. Bootstrap was used to edge highlight the strap/bags/scabbard/base tile. Nuln Oil was washed on the base. Codex Grey was used to edge highlight the black bits. Red for the lenses on the headgear. Black and white (and codex grey) for the star on the chest. Sotek Gr

  30. I've had this mini around for a few years now and finally decided to paint her once I was more comfortable pinning. I think she's one of the best pin jobs that I've done to date :) and I thought it was relatively easy :) i really enjoyed painting her. She's just an NPC for D&D so she didn't take but a few hours to paint. I have a queue of figures to paint so I wanted to get her done before I started on the others for an upcoming show. I used her as an experiment of sorts. One of the miniatures I'm painting is from Stormtroopers (Boudicea) and she has "fiery red hair". I concocted a mix

  31. Reaper #77082 Large Fire Elemental I already shared pictures of this in another thread, but here's a side-by-side comparison of my Large Fire Elemental with and without under-lighting. I started by dry-brushing with Inca Gold, but it was soon clear that just wasn't going to cut it. The large fire elemental is very thick, and toward the base the red translucent plastic doesn't look all that translucent anymore. Therefore, toward the base I painted white in recessed areas, then went back with yellow and "neon" orange to try to turn those areas into gradients to fade into the darker red.

  35. Glad to hear it. Easy as pie to use with basing. Pick them off with a pair of tweezers, dab a little white glue to the bottom, apply to base. I tend to use about 3-4 larger pieces or 5-6 smaller pieces for a standard 1" base. It leaves room for rocks or other basing details, and doesn't use up your supply of florettes too quickly.

  36. I love these, but you're setting the bar too high. Now I don't want to paint mine because they won't be this good. For bronze I've found that Peacock Green works amazingly well as a base coat.

  37. And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin' up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and he started jumpin' up and down with me and we was both jumpin' up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sergeant came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."

  38. Not inaccurate, She was a warrior queen, and so was more likely to wear more complex cloth. Just that in almost all images of early AD Celts they all are wearing plaids. They did, just not on everything. And don't get me started on clan tartans.

  40. Single point of contact for updates If they're worried about spamming people with updates then look at a 'pull' method for updating rather than a 'push', or an 'opt-in' service Have a regularly scheduled update. Once a week, once a fortnight, once a month, whatever I don't really care, just a scheduled update even if it is to say 'Everything is fine, move along citizen' If they have to change the circumstances of their fufillment, communicate it out promptly to the backers. I think half the problem is they've been taking steps to protect their brand by trying to avoid an internet firestorm

  42. Well if you have Ghost White the white here is easy. Base in Ghost White, add a small amount of Saphire Blue to Ghost White for the deep shadows, layer Pure White to build the highlights which should be broader than usual. Done. For the Empire/Mordheim models its; Rainey Grey base, wash with Black Wash, apply Rainey Grey back as mid-tone, layer Pure White to build broad highlights. Done.

  43. Sorry to ask, but why you say that? To be blunt: Because all of their projects attract a tidal wave of idiocy and pointless arguments in the comments section that make them near useless and frankly offputting. It's not just CMoN projects but due to the size of their support they hit that stage almost immediately. It's quite telling that after their first couple of projects CMoN themselves have near abandoned the comment section, updates for several of their projects recently have explicitly stated to not use the comments section if you need to contact them, and I can't say I blame them.

Happy with everything so far. Horns and claws will be a matte black. His eyes will be a real purple I think. His rabbit like teeth will remain bright white with some yellowing in between. More tomorrow. Wait, it is tomorrow.

  49. And here we have the 'worn gold' effect. Blurry shots don't help see everything but I'm waiting to reveal everything in perfect focus until the end after everything is weathered and tied together. Right now, these process shots aren't as clear as I think they should be and next time I will focus more on...focus. This evening the bone/skull tutorial will be up here then I put this Chapel together and putty it so the putty can cure overnight. Then weathering and final details. In the home stretch now, trying to get it done by Friday night/Saturday at the latest.
