  1. I thought you guys might like a closer shot of the Cockatrice mini encounter that I worked on! I'm glad I got new pictures in on time. I had a lot of fun doing these guys! The Cockatrices were based on some excellent Izzy artwork, the nest was Ron's suggestion, and I thought it would be fun to include a little egg thief! It amuses me to think that the Halfling left behind the other treasures because, to him, the giant egg for second breakfast WAS the treasure! I didn't sculpt him specifically as a "statue" because I thought I would leave it to the painter to decide if he made his

  5. I propose a “Girl Power” expansion next Bones. Nothing but new, fresh, dynamic models of females of all the PC races and various classes. Level 2 and 3 would then be monstrous humanoid and monster female models.

  6. I know a lot of people grew up with HeroQuest, and for those that did, it was often their start into painting minis. Even though I had never painted a mini until the start of this year, I did grow up playing HeroQuest, and I always loved the game's monster sculpts. The old copy at my parents house was claimed (unpainted) by one of my siblings, and I haven't seen the box in years. I went looking through eBay for a game of my own and I quickly realised how expensive it could get. Every now and then, though, I would find a lot of minis for a pretty decent price. So, I had a handful

  7. As @Doug Sundseth put it, the short answer is "shenanigans". I got very active in the very first Bones kickstarter and made some short comics with G.I. Joe figures about how Cobra Commander was using the kickstarter to acquire minions. This amused Gene Van Horne, one of Reaper's sculptors, so he drew my avatar and we became friends. After the kickstarter there were a lot of new people here who had never painted before, so I made a thread to encourage people to just paint, have fun, and not worry about it too much - the basic premise being that I have no idea what I'm doing, let's see how it

  9. I just want to thank all of Reaper for pulling off a fantastic Kickstarter, especially @ladystorm for being quick on the draw with posting updates to the Information thread. @Reaper Ron toiled endlessly during the Countdown Party to try to keep up with updating stretch goals and the maps. Special thanks to @Crowley, @rubegon, and all the others both here and on Facebook that provided all of us with stats and spreadsheets to follow the trends. Yay math! ALso a shoutout to the mods who worked endlessly to modbat naughtiness in to oblivion. It's not an easy job, but I appreciate you all for doing

  12. I wanted a traditional Black Pudding, but I didn't want to just paint it black. When I started to think about how to make this stand out, I started to think about the shimmer that oil gets, and I wondered if Black Puddings get that shimmer as well. I looked up some photos, and thought, "I bet I can do this." Like I said in the other thread, I'm planning on putting together a tutorial on getting this effect, so that'll be up soon. This one was fun to paint! I love all the little bits and bobs in the ooze.

  15. That’s how I’m sculpting her (though some of the ropes will be a part of her), but it is not possible to know how China will choose to recut the model, so no guarantees. Yes, that should work. The timbers on the far end of the long bar are a bit rough, but they don’t extend much past the post. @GHarris: Love the cockatrice set. Nice pixel pushing there!

  17. Oooh I hope so! I every one of the Sophie minis we have. She's actually shown up in our current campaign, in a few different guises, so I've needed to pull out almost all of them! Right now Troll-slayer Sophie is on our table. Thank you for this! This incredible mini will be super useful in our games! Animated bone piles have happened more than once lol. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

  18. My friend is playing a fighter in a Pathfinder game, so I decided to take a break from my Batman game to paint up a figure for her, though I decided to paint two. She likes Harley Quinn a lot so I decided to paint up a fighter in Harley Quinn colors. Although you can't really tell, I borrowed a red and black metallic paint from a friend to get the legs done right. I had a lot of back and forth in my head as to how exactly to pull this off, but I decided in the end to stick with the as direct an interpretation of the original Harley as possible. There isn't much contrast around

  22. I would do the "Grrlll Power"° and "A Lifetime of Adventure"°° as two separate expansions. 1st - Girl Power Where possible, this should be a set designed and sculpted by women - in part to encourage women sculptors, in part to avoid pitfalls - encourage the sculptors to speak up if they think a character is venturing too far into the hallowed halls of Klee-Shay. Part One - Setup - 12-17 women PCs - a variety of classes, races, etc. Scour through the catalog, and see what hasn't got good representation here. Most are sensibly dressed, mid-tier characters - spellcasters w

  30. Plonking away a the Bones 4 core set, this is number 5: I am not a number! I am a free man! The metal version of this is called Ankoa, Barbarian Hero. He has a really small head compared to most of the other minis. I expect he is not too bright. Probably not destined to bear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. There's a new playah in town! Come get some! B4Core #5 Barbarian from the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Made in Bonesium PVC

  31. AUGH! The Great Pumpkin Came! This was my entry in a painting league at another miniatures forum. In reference to the longstanding Peanuts theme of Linus sitting alone in the Pumpkin Patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come bringing gifts, Santa Claus-style. It's a pity for him that Halloween is all about the scary...and the Great Pumpkin probably is not a very nice being. The miniatures are all by Reaper, the fences are from Mantic's Kings of War Vanguard terrain. I found the simplicity of the fences really helped to sell the story here. As o

  32. When the "Underwater Expansion" first popped up I thought to myself "oh great, everybody hates underwater content, that's a waste". Fast forward till now, I ended up pledging for Dark Depths, Brinewind, Brinewind Extras, and the bloody ship. Before this is all over I'll probably add fan favorites to the basket, might depend on how well that finished not-demogorgon looks like. This was my first Kickstarter (Bones or otherwise), and it's been actually fun to follow this through, cheers to everyone!

  33. Well, I guess that one guy got his demon chickens... I guess I'll have to remember that the REALLY squeaky wheels get the grease next time. I figured having Ron the art director reply and say he liked my idea was a good sign, and I could lay off proposing it thereafter. Next time I'll be more persistent. (But not chimera-spamming update lurker annoying...) My buy list is massive (this is my first Kickstarter ever), but I'll post it in the morning.

  41. Along with the Pyros, I also painted up a set of the Goblin Warriors. Another Bones 1 set that had excellent detail and great character. Sculpted by Ben Siens. I liked these little guys enough that I think I'm going to pick up a set in metal and try for more precision.

  42. My humble suggestion is: explicitly detach the Mermaid. Just as if she is a table, or a loose barrel. Add a curved-at-each-end set of planks (like you’d mount a fish to) as a loose piece also (a sign board). And then just let @Sanael or other end users assemble the model as they wish. Some enterprising soul might want to use the hammerhead shark or the grouper or something else as the carved signboard for the bar. Others might want to paint a name if they can do freehand. The Hammered Head is a pretty decent alternative dockside barname IMHO.

  44. I really love this mini encounter! @GHarris, you did some fantastic work on this one! I'm probably going to set up the halfling as a statue, with the egg still real. And I think that potion bottle will likely be a potion/oil of stone-to-flesh when I run this in a game. Reaper really knocked the"encounter" concept out of the park. It reminds me of some old metal sets that were really just scenery pieces, like a "jungle Kings throne" set that I have somewhere, I think from Mega Miniatures? But done so much more thoroughly! Even this "mini" encounter with the cockatrices is so full of

  45. Just now finally catching up with today’s going ons. Had to work today so didn’t catch much of it Live. I think my list of wants will be quite big, but I’ll have to see what my finances allow for through the next year the pledge manager is open. I was wondering the exact same thing as I was wanting two of this expansion. And that’s the answer I was hoping for too. Such a great looking bar. To bring it up to modern times, all it would need are a couple of surfboards leaning against one end.

It looks like a lot of cool stuff was added in the closing moments, including a bunch of things that would probably have gotten me to pledge a little higher. Glad to have them available though. I absolutely love it. My one complaint is that I can't have it now.
