  3. SO with the discussion on care & feeding of brushes, & I do love my brushes, I decided to spring for some Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. While I was placing my order the thought of the polymer clay mushrooms I watched being crafted on YouTube came, unbidden to mind. Ergo a couple of blocks of Sculpey, some sculpting picks, AND an Amaco Polymer Clay & Craft Oven rounded out the order: It was a Martha Stewart moment.

  4. Hello forum family, I wanna share with ya all my most recent fatigue: Marthragul! I was in doubt if painting it into a realistical Earth dragon, or something more colourful... The Magenta won! :D And I chose to don't cut corners, so no drybrush, no washes, no feathering... just dear, old layering, shading and glazing ...cause I'm a fast painter, as you know And, yeah! This took me almost a month of at least two hours per day... basically I hate this dragon now Enough talking, time for pics :D I really hope you like it, if you have any question do not hesitate :) As always

  5. Pinnacle Entertainment Group ran a KS for The Goon Comic RPG. Included in the KS were eight metal miniatures. Despite the unique setting of "zombie noir", some of the miniatures can be used in other genres. I'll be painting the miniatures, starting with Merle the Werewolf. Obviously, he can be used as a generic werewolf, although his eyes are white, not the usual red I use. Bases were made from the OOP Happy Seppuku narrow wooden plank texture stamp, and miniatures pinned with the Army Painter hand drill. With extra paint, I painted some very old Grenadier werewolves, and an Against the Dark d

  8. Lo! These many years ago (13, to be exact) my brother and I were going to start gaming with a friend of his. I rolled up a druid character and was prepared to play her. Then the friend left town and didn’t come back for a few years. I have long since lost the character sheet for this druid, but I still had the mini I purchased! I never expected to paint her, but here she is! 03094, Maralise Moonscythe and her parrot!

  9. A few previews from yesterday's Bones 5 Live episode: The Fan Favorites Hellborn and Landsknecht 3d renders: They don't know if the the Landsknecht will come with two head options? That is a Ron question; they were just speculating, based upon the fact it was rendered with and without the helmet. They also showed the concept art for both the above models. The Hellborn was shown with what looks like a flanged mace included in the concept art. They speculated it might have a weapon option with the model? Pure speculation, though.

  10. Inspired by the weekend question, I took some pictures of the army thus far and found that posting it in the question thread would be excessive, also that I didn't have an ongoing thread for my largest painted army so here it is. The plan is to get my Shelf of Incompleteion cleared off then work on reinforcements for this alongside my Old School Undead army. Here we have the Pumpkin construct unit led by a Storybook Witch from Old Glory. I have 3 more of her, but the bag only came with the one flight stand and the Reaper ones I have don't fit, when I get around that, they'll form th

  11. Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while. I mostly post on the Reaper Facebook Page and Twitter now. I still check out everything on the "Show off" every day, though! Here is my most recent tartan project. This is Aeslin sculpted by Sandra Garrity. My customer is a fan of the show (and books) Outlander and this figure was chose specifically for it's potential for painting a tartan. The tartan that was picked is the Wilson Ancient Hunting Tartan. It has these very thin quadruple orange lines that give it a very interesting blue/green/orange colour shift look. I was onl

  14. After going back to Darius and repaint him I decided to do the same with Domur. Like I did with Darius, I'm posting both versions, the first I painted and the current one. I kept both since I had two or three of them. For the first one I tried a scheme similar to the official one: on the second, a more conservative fire look. First Domur (2018) 2nd Domur

  15. This guy has been sitting in my collection a couple years. Finally painted him up for someone who wanted a Van Helsing feel to him - dark, leathery, bits of red. Also wanted the book to glow. I feel I could have done better on that, but the indication is there.

She fought to a series of pyric victories on the planet of Aleusis. She delayed but could not stop the forces of chaos from claiming the world when the planetary defense forces fell apart leaving her to fight a last stand with the remaining mechanicus forces.

  19. While I've been collecting Undead almost since I got started in the hobby, it wasn't until a few years ago that I decided to create a Halloween themed force. Behold, the Army of the Great Pumpkin... (Stuffed onto the middle shelf of my hutch in varying degrees of comfort.) Trying to break this down on a unit basis will clog the thread, so I'll just give an overview here. Part of the army is the traditional Halloween force of spiders, pumpkin dudes, and skeletons. Another contingent is based on the idea that a dead witch can return as a vampire or werewolf, and utilizes these as well

  20. Thanks. I spent a bit of time on the cats so they'd match the ones I did ~15 years ago for my Warlord army. Was tough matching paint colors they don't make any more. The rats I did very simply with a thin wash of brown liner and then some ink glazes. It's really sunny and nice today and we're going to do christmas lights at some point this afternoon so I may not be as productive today.

  21. Happy St Andrews Day everybody! I'm finally feeling better, which is a good thing because we're heading out for some early Christmas shopping today. We managed to get tickets for the Chinese Lantern Festival tonight, so expect an absolute ton of photos at some point tomorrow. This year's theme is 'Lost Worlds' so there should be a lot of prehistoric themed stuff on show (including Dimetrodons!)

  22. Hey, It's been a long time since I posted anything here, I've been busy learning about new materials and especially casting the new materials, which is resin. Casting resin is a whole new world to learn, you can get the same results as with wax, but unlike wax that can just be attached to a tree and burnt out cleanly, resin needs more prep work: Some needs curing under uv-light, some curing + annealing (which is basically boiling the prints), some cannot be in contact with water and so on. Been taking baby steps and have slowly changed the variables and I'm finally starting to get

  24. After well over a year of the Shelf of Incompleteness she is done! Part of the reason she hung around there that long is because she was the first figure in a long while that I wanted to extend higher than my usual tabletop level into display level and part of the way thru I hit a wall. In doing so I learned where my current limits are. This was also my first attempt at painting sheer clothing. Her hair came out better than expected considering this turned into a speed paint when I got back to her. The Witch of November mayhap? Save a Broom, Ride a Pumpkin! One

  27. it happened out-of-scene. Perhaps he was sampling a hot dog to see if it was safe for customers and then went into convulsions knocking the stand over on himself, absorbing the chemicals through his skin? Then afterward he ... ate the rest of the hotdogs? IDK. maybe it wasn't a full dose...

  29. I have to say I'm not as thrilled by any of the Expansions this time as much as I was by Bones 4's selection. Each seems to have a share of both stuff that is useful to me, and stuff that really isn't. That being said, here is my ranking, mostly based on the balance of what I can and can't use for wargaming. 1) Dark Depths- Love the potential for unit building in this one. The Mermaids, Slithe, and Brine Goblins are all present in numbers that will allow me to start building units from them; then picking up the extras I need to fill the ranks from ebay, trade, or retail. 30. I do mostly skirmish and large wargames so I'll tell you a bit about my high elves. No names will be used to protect the innocent and stupid. Plus I never got around to doing a real detailed back story for them. They were the first Warhammer army I bought as a young adult back in around '93 and the scond I finished painting in around 2017. They and my goblin army are my most used for the last 10+ years. They are a proud elite unit covered in shiny armour and carrying the best quality weapons. Despite this and their decades of training they are mostly useless on the battlefield. The ultimate pa

  31. Everybody gather--gather together, we’re going to have a group shot! Oh yes! Oh, it's going to be a lovely night... (The beholder photobombed the shoot - it has nothing to do with using his eyes to use up paints, not at all...) Deena (and the Tressym's) eyes are LED Blue and Catseye Green (naturally), both from Reaper. I need to hit both of them up again with another coat. They're solid eyes in part because I stink at doing eyeballs smaller than those of, well, a Beholder... and in part because, especially in her Solar form, Deena is more magical creature th

  32. Went back to the FLGS to have a look at the new wave of Wizkids unpainted lines. Interestingly, unlike most of the times where I’m the only one looking at minis when I’m there, this time there were three other separate customers, one of them a young lady, who were all shopping the wall as intense as I was myself. As well there was a young family of five whose eldest son, maybe 7 or 8 years old, was obviously the driving force behind them being there, although when the son went on about the guillotine and how he would be chopping a bunch of heads off, the mom put an end to the

  33. Reaper clears are nothing like GW Shades. The GW shades are washes designed to darken the paint below, and are a mix of pigment and extra acrylic medium. They are very transparent and a bit glossy, not very pigment rich and tend to be desaturated colors. Reaper clears are very pigment rich and have a more typical amount of medium for paint. They are not as transparent and work well as glazes, and can be mixed with other paints to change the hue. They are very saturated colors. You could think of the GW shades as you would a pair of sunglasses, and the Reaper clears as those "secret

  35. I can't pick favorites; I can say that Daimyo isn't getting purchased. I'm just not particularly interested in Asian settings; there are a few pieces in it that I'll get at retail, though. Dark Depths, Brinewind and the ship all kinda go together (IMO, anyway), so I'm probably getting them. All of the other expansions have stuff I want and stuff I don't, so I'm going to be taking a hard look at them to determine which ones I get. Or, I'll decide that I eat too much any way and get 'em all.

  36. Not a bad day, today. Dinner was at two (youngest was running late): smoked turkey (just ordered from a BBQ place), ham, cranberries, potatoes, biscuit, stuffing. I didn't touch the sweet potatoes or green bean casserole--but, then again, I never do. Dessert was a chocolate eclair torte. There was also pumpkin pie, but I wanted the torte. Got some time with both grandkids. Watched some football. Avoided the food-coma (but not by much). I'm going to watch a couple MST3K episodes, then consider pulling out the painting. I doubt I'll paint (still too stuf

  40. Given that those "sizes" can change between game systems and even editions of the same game it would be foolish of them to use them as the basis for sales of their minis. The Bryangles were great, the new letters are almost useless, and Sir Shadowscale would be about perfect to show how big they are comparatively, though.

  45. Hey all, Since they did the website changes/update a while back, I have noticed is that there is not nearly the amount of pics of painted minis when you got to the individual product. It’s always nice to see what your mini ‘could’ look like or inspiration for color schemes (my biggest weakness). What happened to all the gorgeous paint jobs?
