It's about time for me to start painting a ReaperCon entry, assuming COVID-19 is done by the end of August and there is a ReaperCon to attend. For this year's Open entry, I am painting the Chaos Toad Brawler I sculpted for Bones 4: I prepared this guy or the past week or so and am now ready to start slinging paint on it. I'll probably start with a nice air-brushed coating of blue liner. For color, I am taking inspiration from the following:

Quick celeryphone shots of the side details I didn't take photos of last night. Mobile used instead of G85 because, ah unno. lol Definitely thinking I'll be sticking with my G85 for photos though, since the files are a lot easier to work with, and it doesn't complain if I tell it the colour temperature of the lights is 2700K

Had to do some touch-ups on the primer for my Hell's Horses mechs, so figured oh why not, let's get a bunch of figures primed as well... ^First up we have my Maghariba Guard. Most of the upper stuff is now primed. Ran out of mixed paint so didn't get the legs but such is life. I'm already starting to regret some aspects of the fully assembled bit, but such is life. I wanted it that way, it's that way, I'm not sawing things apart just to get easier access! Main plans for the murder scorpion (of doom) is to go with a somewhat different colouration than the others - this will more than likely be the "fox" that howls yips at the moon. I'm thinking more of a clear sky midnight look, so a combination of semi-subdued blues, with earthy brown-oranges lower down (and maybe mixed in a tad higher for some attempt at camo). I'm also rather wishing I had a turntable to spin this thing around on, it's somewhat awkward to try and hold... I think that's going to be something that gets purchased next payday! ^Five out of six of the units from my Qapa Khalqi started set are now primed (the last one, a Hafza, I'm still debating about whether or not to pose him with his rifle, or just keep that YOU CAN'T TOUCH US! defiant stance with no rifle nearby), as well as a Lasiq sniper, and both of my Azra'ils. Next time, the monochrome (aka almost black primer) starts to go away!

I was thinking of some kind of playful title for the force, like "The Foxes That Yip At Night" or something more mysterious like "Crescent Moon Foxes" but in all honesty, I haven't really figured out a name for this force. This is a continuation of a previous thread where I set a goal to finish 20 minis in twenty weeks, but only wound up doing one. Eh, world doesn't end, goal with that was to paint, and I did. This thread is a breakoff out of that one, because I want to have my HaqqIslam force to have it's own thread, and can also give them a tad more room on my painting desk thanks to recent changes I've done (I have another three whole feet of desk I can work with that's focused on being a "build-up" area, which I've already found has had me tidying things up a tad more AND given me the ability to have room to sit down and do ANY kind of hobbying for even just 15-20 minutes, be it assembly, cleanup, (hopefully) sculpting, and/or painting. To those wondering, in a standard 300/6 game, there's no way to field all of the units pictured here. A small part of why I've picked up what I have is due to sales, a desire for a few minis before they fall out of circulation (since some when purchased had been discontinued five years prior), and a desire to be able to readily try out either mixed tactics with a vanilla HaqqIslam army, or to be able to try out one of the three main sectorials (Hassassin Bahram, Qapu Khalqi, or Ramah Taskforce). At some point the Hassassin starter pack will be added in, as well as probably another boxed set or two (I'm looking at you, Zhayedans, Khawarijs', and Muttawi'ah's... Oh, and blisters like the Hunzakut, Ayyar, Ragiks, and the Odalisque with Spitfire rescuplt to name a few) but a lot of that is mainly due to a desire for "completion" or just to have a nice looking force to choose from. Or something - I am an indecisive fox after all ^So here's where things stand at the moment. First pic has most of the Red Veil and Beyond Red Veil boxed sets in it, while the second is a combination of Azra'il (the two big guys on 40mm bases) and the Qapu Khalqi starter force. The reason why the ones that haven't been painted yet have milky looking bases is these pics were taken shortly after sealing those bases with watered town Tacky Glue. Apologies for the out of focus photos, I wanted group shots, and was tired when I took them, and phone kept fighting me about what to focus on. ^Still to assemble we have these pieces. I'm really looking forward to building up that Maghariba Guard (aka murder scorpion! ...Or Maggie, as many local players call it), but those Bashi Bazouks (in the blisters at the bottom) I'm also rather curious about.

Blue is often used as a shade for white crystals, so I gave it a shot with these Hand of Glory miniatures. Anyway, all I did was paint metallic white (white primer might work), with Tamiya Clear Blue. Usually, you want to stir the Tamiya because the blue pigment settles to the bottom, but I tried painting without stirring. Results are not as good as the display-level tutorials for crystals, but when you're plowing through a hundred accessories, faster is better -- and necessary! I did some further work by painting the staff gold and I have to do more work on the bottle. When I do this again, painting the Tamiya Clear Blue will be the last step, though. fwiw, Hand of Glory is currently running a KS. The hands on the miniatures are magnetic "hot swappable" accessories. So the miniatures can be equipped with different weapons, magical items, and miscellaneous things.

Been working on a new game for dungeon crawling, and have settled with predominantly Reaper miniatures for my personal use (and for use in game component imagery, etc.). Second post here, so apologies if I fumble the image stuff a few times.

Let's face it - Rhakshasas' hands are just a bizarre concept.
  10. 1 point
The current plan is to get him in a simple two piece mold so there wouldn't be any assembly required. However, the position of the bracers is not accidental and would allow for a pretty simple mod for those wanting to rotate the hands.

For those of you who like follow up stories/photos, this is what got done today, YET ANOTHER base of Mushrooms...I bet you guessed that would be the case: These are the other new Mushrooms: There you go...so to speak.
  14. 1 point
The Year of The Goblin is actually over, but I finished another base of Mushrooms. Considering it is the last one that I had already made up AND, ergo, the last one I will be showing you until I make up YET MORE Mushrooms, I thought I'd show the Guys: Along with the other recently completed bases: See you on a new thread sooner or later.

Okay, but I'm not responsible for any demonic entities or whatnot that you wind up making recoil in horror.... ^"Painting" area... Or at least the central parts of it. So much of it is taken up by paint bottles, and various other things... >.>;;; ^"Assembly" area. Quotes used because when that Iron Heart Artisans order comes in (and I've assembled all of them), this is where most of my paint will be stored. Yup, the monitor from my old benching setup is still there - I've been tempted to set that up as an extra monitor for my gaming rig, but we shall see. Would let me watch movies, or perhaps get involved with Google Hangouts again though, so we shall see how everything plays out as time goes by.

What happens if you draw small? Ever tried? Everything I draw is all hand - fingers - wrist. Here is a sample: That circle was drawn with a plastic lid from something*. The whole drawing is a bit less than 4 inches diameter. *peanut butter jar maybe.

My paint area is currently my assembly area, as I'm looking to get all my Star Wars Legion assembled and primed before cleaning up and switching over to painting again. As well, it currently has all the resin prints @robinhsent over.... The mat is green, and one of the bottles in the first pic is Ghoul Skin, which is greenish (and one of the 4 colours in the Camo for that CAV Starhawk VI lurching in the background)

Strawberry Milkshakes! "I'm not gonna buy any more minis till I paint (even some of) the ones I already have!" I am! And I'm most familiar with judeo-christian, greco-roman, arthurian, and norse mythology. I'm vaguely familiar with celtic, hindu, and a smattering of native american (north american) myths.

Wew. They were slow af getting my mom through her treatment, and she came out in a bad mood and was incredibly unpleasant with me all the way home... but she got an absolutely fantastic report. I don't know if it's just that it's not good enough to suit her, or what, but she has no sign of new cancerous growth and the tissue she's had has decreased in size by 30%. Which everyone thinks is amazing. It's expected to continue shrinking too. So despite a rainy, somewhat disagreeable trip of six hours I am now home and quite pleased with the outcome overall. Kinda ready for a drink tho tbh.

Thank you! I think you did an army of these or a similar project. I am not sure how I will get a game going but have always really liked the idea of 'orcs with pistols'/ fantasy pirate miniatures.

I sat down this afternoon to start a unit of Soulflayers, flying cavalry. Well, big brushes and washing/glazing/drybrushing made me not only start, but also finish painting them. Wow, big surprise for me! Also, they don't really fit the gaming base, lol. So, I don't have a unit of Soulflayers, but I have 3 mind-screeches, flying spell-casting monsters. If you recall the cthulhish model from earlier, I already have one of those and I don't need more than three... So, the first one will now be ... Not sure yet, something else :)

I remember hearing mention somewhere (FaceBook? The Kickstarter comments? Reddit?) that a list or something would be released informing us of which material (Bones or Bones Black) the different Options and Add-Ons would be made of. Has that list/information been released yet? If not, is there an ETA for it? I prefer Bones Black to Bones and would like to know which Options will be which before buying them. Thanks.

Prepped some more stuff: Left to right: Boba Fett is in a silly number of pieces.... Starter box Vadar General Veers Expansion Vadar Starter Luke First 2 rebel scum er, troopers I'm working from home for the next while, and planning to keep close to home the rest of the time. So there is going to be a bit more hobby time, so I'm going to put a bit of a push on to get all my Imperials painted, and all of my rebels at least assembled and stuck on the standard bases. Then maybe try to get my wife to try it out. Next assembly session will be the rest of the rebel troopers. Then maybe tackle the speeder bikes and other more fiddly looking ones.

The first round of painting is done for the boat. The ferryman is still in progress though. Most everything, with the exceptions of the canopy and mast, is glued together. I'm going to go over it next and patch as many gaps as I can. Then it's just touch ups and I should be done with it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to include the figurehead or not. But after a quick paint job I decided it worked better than I expected.

Hello guys, It's been a while since I posted a mini, as I've been sick, been on a business trip, and just generally busy, but here is a figure I just completed last night, a Julie Guthrie figure from "All Things Dark and Dangerous" back in the eighties: Upon retrospect I'm wondering if I should have given her eyebrows, don't know if without looks very unnatural? In any case, here's the "original" set of figures, with the delightful ladies that came in the original blister pack: Hope you enjoy!

This was one of two figures I painted for @Fealron for the Secret Sophie this year. His ideas were Metal, minimal basing for gaming use, a woodland creature, usually considered good but turned to evil, and a minion of a necromancer. After thinking a while, I decided I could knock out all his ideas with some evil unicorns. Here is the first. I envisioned a unicorn charmed by a necromancer that tramples a virgin, staining it black. That taint would spread from the hooves, causing a grayscale, with only a few remnants of white/color where the corruption is still incomplete. Here are the WIP shots: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/90564-starmane-unicorn-02151-project-1-of-2-for-fealron/ I’ll post the fiction a little later when I’m at my desktop. C&C Welcome.

Presenting Screamin' Eddie, purveyor of the finest human meat to be found in all the Radlands! Had a lot of fun painting this guy. Originally, he was one of the big Nurgle baddies from Games Workshops Rogue Trader boxset, but I thought he worked well as a more generic Post-Apoc mutant (they all could really). As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Here is Sophie from the Small Worlds Heroes subset of the Bones 4 core set. I started this awhile ago and recently decided to finish it. These chibi-style figures are a fun break from the usual "serious" characters.

A few more miniatures I forgot to add! Some of these are bad guys, some are allies, some are not currently in use...but I've got the pics anyway.

Thanks, and yeah I definitely have a love of muted/earth palettes. I also use Army Painter strong tone on most of my miniatures as I try to paint quickly, so they all end up with the same overall toned down look. I'll throw in some more non-Reaper stuff here as well.

Last night's session saw more of 29827 Griffon Tan applied to various areas - the main focus was cleaning up excess paint from the previous session, and getting more of the armour actually blocked in

Seriously. Because there were two groups of sick people after last year's con. Those who got food poisoning at Houlihan's, and those of us who caught the bug that someone brought with them to the con. Don't be that person this year.

More work on the AP HMG Azra'il! Today's paints are 9401 Dragon Red, 9432 Desert Sand, 29804 Rusty Red, and 29827 Griffon Tan Accidentally only took a photo of just the front. Oops. I'll try to get pics of the other angles later on, since I totally didn't photograph an area I worked on (the arm shield thingy). Shield, crotch plate, neck guard, and right shoulder pauldron got Griffon Tan, mixed 2:1 with Vallejo Thinner medium, Desert Sand with a 3:2 mix (give or take) with Vallejo Thinner went into inlays on the shoulders, as well as the inlays on the hand shield thingy. Top of helmet, with what sort of looks like a visor but is probably just plates to protect one's noggin got a combination of 2:1 Dragon Red and Rusty Red, with a single drop of thinner medium. Originally this was just for that part of the helmet, the logos on the shield and right pauldron, and the flower, but since I'd mixed up so much I wound up putting it all over the chest plates. I'll figure out some sort of way to blend the two later on I suspect ^_^;;;; EDIT: And since Griffon Tan is more of a shade that I'm looking for, next time I'll also wind up going over the legs with it, to have everything the same tone, even if in some ways, the two are similar enough, doubly so at tabletop distances.

Corvus Belli has some rather lovely models. As a heads up though, some of them can be moderately to insanely fiddly, or have a LOT of parts. Speaking of which.... ^Not quite sure how many hours, but it was probably 2.5-3 of cleanup, pinning, and assembling for my Maghariba Guard. It's assembled now, and it's a gorgeous paperweight murder scorpion. Front legs are pinned in place, as are the three main torso parts together, and then the turret to the "tail". Tried to pin the body and tail, but such didn't want to really cooperate, so hopefully the decent amount of glue throughout it's contact area will work in the long run Sir Forscale included, well, for scale, same as the bottle of superglue
