Finished after a few delays from a project started in...December 2019, woops, are some more female residents of Frostgrave. All are from the official range from North Star Miniatures, other than two metal minis they are all built from the Frostgrave Soldiers II and Frostgrave Wizards II boxed sets, though they may have a few accessories from elsewhere (and the Cultists from the Frostgrave Cultists kit. The two metals: a Barbarian Apothecary and Barbarian Apprentice. The Cultists: Just plain Thieves: Obviously Wizards: K'ren, Slayer of Managers: A hero type: Those who could pass as Townsfolk: a Mule/Porter, an Arcanist/Old Woman, Town Cryer, local guide, and Apothecary/Potion Vendor.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1263001724/hot-and-dangerous-season-ii?ref=profile_created Just saw this on my Facebook feed. Hot and Dangerous was a Kickstarter from Wargamer studio. It was for 32mm and larger pin up miniatures of ladies in historical uniforms and armor. Pin up is not truly accurate. Some had poses that were not fighting stances but most were not really “sexy” poses, and all were fully dressed and armored... one had a wardrobe malfunction but not too terribly so.., Anyway. My Facebook feed shows that a part 2 will be coming to Kickstarter soon. I was satisfied with the first one. @Glitterwolf looks like there will be a conquistador in this one.

The second Giant Snake from the Artisan Guild set. 3D Printed on my Elegoo Mars. WIP :https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/page/163/#comments I was inspired by the African Bush Viper. Added extra pics taken indoors after applying antishine varnish below.

Always really loved this model this is my second go at it. Thought I would try something different with the clothes most of the painted ones I've seen are very brown.

Another foil for my Dreadmir players - this is one of my favourite "civilian" characters in the Dreadmere box. It's a figure that had a few details I wasn't aware of until I actually started painting it (the monocle and peg leg in particular). Unfortunately, let down by a dodgy photo again, but he shows a little more detail than poor old Siobhan. I'm going to have to have another look at my photo settings . . . Reeve Irremborg Planomakov holds most of the power in Dreadmir in spite of the efforts of the various gangs, bands and factions. He represents the Dreadmanov family (who prefer to spend their time in their apartments in Kamengrad than in their ancestral holdings) on the Mir Council, through a devious blend of guile, threat and show of force. He is stern but fair, and does not tolerate insolence. A stout, heavy set man, the current Reeve is believed by some to have some dwarf in his heritage.

I figured I'd do one mega-gallery of the first of my resin 3D printed miniatures. All are done on an Elegoo Mars. Oni Kyojin from Artisan Guild. My first printed, as they were pre-supported. Rangers of Shadow Deep: Incinerator left me with a hankering for an old-school Ogre. This guy is not really a Heroquest Ogre but a 3D print from a scan of one. Demihuman Zombies from DuncanShadow: Kobolds from DuncanShadow: Warforged from Fabio Schizzo: Orcs from Artisan Guild: An assorted collection from The Lost Dragons Kickstarter. A Dragonborn Paladin and High Elf Druid representing my sister in law and her husband's characters for our Storm King's Thunder campaign from said assortment:

I haven't painted a scifi mini for about 20 years, with the exception of the Zombicide Invaders game. I really liked the look of the Bulldog and Corsair power armour from Chronoscope, and because I can't help myself did both of them as female conversions. I did an ultra simple scheme for the armour (Vallejo "Earth Green - early") and then a GW camo shade wash. The heads are from Statuesque miniatures. The Bulldog pilot has Scale 75 African shadow as a base coat, highlighted up with Scale 75 Iroko (yellow/cream) and a final highlight of just Iroko. The textured base for the Bulldog is wall paper. There is going to be a Scifi version of Frostgrave in the new year and am probably angling for that.

This is my version of a Games workshop Aragorn. I didn't want to paint him as Aragorn since I have two of these same minis so I decide to go for a purple skinned, white haired drow ranger. I'm going to use him as a swordsman named Vigo in my Rangers of Shadowdeep games. This mini was a blast to paint, I like how the highlights turned out. Thanks for looking! Unpainted mini:

Does your world have aquan races and, if it does, what is their society and cities like? What's their stance towards the land dwellers? Does your world have dragons? What is their society? Do they interact with the humanoids as a race or as potential food sources?

I picked up a bunch of the metal Reapercon figures to make postage for some other minis worth it (and because they're excellent). First off the mark is Siobhan Redraven, Bloodwolves Swashbuckler. I based her palette off the concept art as much as possible and I'm happy with the slightly desaturated look on everything except the red armour. While I believe sh'es supposed to be a vampire, she will fit nicely into either my Skull and Shackles campaign or Dreadmir as a River Widow. I'm trying out a new lighting rig for my photographs - it seems to work well for some of the figures, but it's obscured her face a little. Plus, a Schipperke hair seems to have crept into the front shot.

This critter sat on my painting bench for a while mocking me. I think I like the idea of greeblies with lots of tentacles a loot more than actually painting them. I toyed with a few different paint schemes before I settled on a fairly traditional pink and purple one. I also considered giving it a cuttlefish eye to create an alien vibe, however my plans to use it in a campaign calls for a more body horror angle, so I did a human eye. Once that came together, the wide staring eye and exposed brain gave me a distinct case of the Mars Attacks, so a subtle greenish glaze completed it. While I'm happy with how it turned out (it photographed a lot better than the other minis I'm positing today) I have to say this was a dog of a miniature to paint. There's a few spots inside that were impossible to reach, however the rest of the mini tends to distract from those, so long as you don't look too closely.

Is organized crime a thing in the major cities? Are there actual thieves' guilds? How about pirates on the waters? Also, what would be the legal penalty for feeding a mule fermented fruit and then letting it loose in the public marketplace? (Just asking... no reason...<whistles innocently>)

As a follow up of my previous question: What fantasy trope do you feel is a "must have"? Normally, I would consider this something critical to the plot, but it could just be something that you just love and want it in there.

I recently finished a group of Reaper Bones miniatures. As they are so small they were a little hard to paint at some points. I'm fairly new painting miniatures so I was looking for some feedback and potentially some tips on how to improve in the future. All comments, advice, and constructive criticism is welcome. My own main criticism with them is the highlights as I'm not 100% where/how to paint proper highlights to make a natural look without a ton of brush strokes.

Also mdf; I got a bunch with beveled edges from an Etsy dealer last fall. It’s just taken me this long to get started.

Looking good, Rob! While the Gencon base definitely looks like mdf, are the other two tree bases mdf as well, or foamcore?
  22. 1 point
The glue is still drying, and there will have to be some paint touch ups, but here are the tree bases laid out on a 30”x22” Kill Team mat, along with some rocks and buildings I’ve completed in the last week. Add in a hill or two (at most) and some walls or hedges and this is looking like enough for the near-term skirmish game...

I'm glad the Sirens will be translucent (and they always were denoted that way). I plan to paint them up as Nerieds, keeping them mostly translucent so they look as though they are made from water. D&D 3.5 Neried artwork I actually ordered two of this set, as I'll paint the second up as opaque humanoids to serve as sirens. I know there's someone in the last kickstarter who got two copies of the Stygian Barge, so he would get two copies of the translucent "souls." He painted one set up as spirits, remaining largely transparent, and the other set he painted up as regular humans, representing the same souls before death. The paint jobs were quite well done, and you couldn't tell the models were themselves translucent plastic.

Huh, thought I posted the next day.....oh well. I did not get them finished. I did get all the little details done, even though I could feel my shoulder threatening to twing for the last half hour or so... It eventually got too hot again to do more work, so I left the bases. Monday night my shoulder decided to completely spaz out. I could barely get out of bed. Not sure what triggered it, but it took some work to get it settled, so today is my first day back holding a brush. I cleaned up the two little bases and gave them another coat, then washed them with nuln oil. The big base finally got assembled and textured. Letting that dry non, then I'll add a few rocks and should have them finished up fairly quickly.

Because of all the orcs, kobolds, gnolls and bugbears from the Bones kickstarters, I ended up with several duplicates of many poses. This topic is right in line with how I dealt with them. First, my orcs from the Orcpocalypse set. I really didn't need that many orcs, so I picked a few and did some weapon and shield swaps with some of the gnolls and bugbears, Or I added little details so I could tell them apart (a dagger in or out of a sheath, a shoulder pauldron, a different arrow quiver, etc.). This gave me a good variety of orcs with no actual duplicate poses. In turn, the bugbears got the leftover bits from the orcs and gnolls. I also had all of those first generation Bones kobolds (I even have the metals for these!). The kobold champion had a badly tweaked mace (no amount of heating or reforming was working, and it always went back to its deformed shape). So I replaced it with the "broken sword" from the Bones zombie ogre (and hey, for a smaller race, a broken sword from a larger creature would be a decent greatsword, right?). So I did that. I also swapped out some of the swords and spear bits. Most of these modifications required only nippers and a hobby knife. The shields and shoulder pauldron took some dremel work with a conical and ball bit. The most complicated work was the morning star from the gnoll that I gave to one of the orcs. I ended up using the gnoll's whole hand - including its hand and forearm armor, while keeping the orc's wrist straps intact. This gave a much more solid connection than just cutting off and pinning the weapon.

So much for sticking to just dragons this time around. I only want the dragon from Daimyo but that wasn't worth the whole expansion, unless we see a print and it's bigger than i expect. So before I was asking about what to get/concern about spending half a grand on minis, but where I'm a reservist and... current events, I make more money as part of the Guard... so more money and less time let me indulge myself lol. Bones 5 Core Set x1 Valfuryx the Vile x1 Dragon Folk x1 Catapult x1 Dragon Bust x4 Aganzarax x1 Mammoth x1 Ballista x1 Trebuchet x1 Shavynra the Slayer x1 Krateryx, Shadow Dragon x1 Rune Wights x1 Arakoth the Ancient x1 Pirate Ship x1 Ildraedis the Devourer x1 Demonic Temptation Option x1 Yog-Sothoth x1 Kalanzar the Wicked x1 Kaiju Chaos Option x1 Chronoscope Expansion x1 New MSP Paint Colors x1 MSP: Foerster's Favorites x1 Fan Favorites x1 The dragons and the pirate ship are by far my favorites... I'm also running a steampunk campaign so the chronoscope fits too well for me to skip lol. I can use most of what's there, and the pirate ship will be their airship. It'll be a heck of set piece to have the ship fights on. Altogether quite pleased with it. The dragon busts are going on top of heavy weights and becoming bookends, one set for me, one set for my mother-in-law, who's a fan of old-style Tolkien dragons, but it's hard to find ones like that painted these days.

Thanks everyone! I am thrilled with the results. I can hope to see some continued reduction but I will be happy as long as the drug remains useful for a while. I really hate it when I am between drugs and you never know what the next step is going to be. With some luck I will be on this drug for a year or 2 before I have to look for something else.

Well through much trials and tribulations, it looks like I have another drug that is working for a while. I got my scan results back today and the tumor has shrunk almost a full centimeter! For clarity that's about 10 percent of the total mass in 3 months. This progress wont continue, the older cells are more stubborn and fixed in their ways but it does mean that I should be able to hold the line for a while with the new drug and once again delay the inevitable. Turned out to be a pretty good day!
  43. 1 point
After multiple calls to my doctor, the pharmacy, and my insurance company the drugs were finally shipped yesterday and should arrive sometime this afternoon. Sometimes its like pushing a stone up a hill, but at least the hill has a crest... of course I don't find out if the drug is working until Tuesday so I will be working very hard not to think about it until then. But it should be working, its certainly tearing apart some newly healed wounds and even damaging some more recent scars.

Well today was interesting. It has been a long time since I have seen someone take aim before shooting themselves in the foot. I was on a call today with a plant and the VP's of EH&S and manufacturing and the site leader stepped right up and said: 'we couldn't install the safety interlocks because the reactor was needed for production' You could hear the bags of popcorn opening as those not involve were sitting back to watch the show. Because whatever the meeting was supposed to be about, it was going to become a lecture on how safety is paramount. Definitely an entertaining way to end my day.

Well. I'll take the good news where I can get it... after over 12 months of treatment the wound in my leg is finally closed and pronounced healed today! So maybe I will get to go swimming when the weather warms up? It's a good thing. My doctor constantly worries I'm going to survive cancer only to die of sepsis. But now the final spot is closed, although the skin is still new and very fragile so I'm not out of my sock of shame just yet On the new drug front I'm 5 days in and although I'm getting the fatigue and the standard gastric side effects my blood pressure is still under control and there is no sign of damage to my organs. Time will of course tell if the drug is actually doing anything...

Thanks for the kind words, folks! Managed to get some stuff done tonight. Had the blue touched up as some spots were not dark enough (I over-thinned it the first time. Not used to working with these volumes in my airbrush). When dry, I gave all the painted parts a slathering of watered down Vallejo Dark Grey wash. There is an amazing amount of detail sculpted on it and I wanted to help make it pop. I'll go back with a brush with the base colours to bring them back out before I start the highlighting. For the wing membranes I hoping to try something different but will be experimenting on some plasticard or something else first. Details to follow. Also played with the breath attack and got sole blue and purple wash on it. Thinking of priming White over it and using the minitaire ghost tint Plasma Fluid instead and then working it up to white. also got the sides of the base sanded and put a thin layer of the Liquitex Matt Gel on the flat surfaces. Will add some boulders in a couple spots before priming. And yes, I should probably have done that before adding the gel... thanks for looking.

Is it too much to ask that basic functions in the insurance world work? I get a call today from my pharmacy saying that they cant ship my drug because they need a prior authorization... on a drug I have been taking for the last 4 months... that comes in refills of 6... and they have never had this problem before. And of course I am completely out of the drug and they couldn't have called me about this a week ago? Sorry. I am just extremely frustrated right now as we try to figure out a drug that will continue to work for me. this is just Irritating and it wouldn't have been a problem if they had called a week ago. Still irritating but not an issue. Now its a problem and of course I have back to back meetings all day today making finding the time to call the insurance company and the doctor and calling back the pharmacy much more of a hassle. Sigh, Just needed a moment to vent.

Sorry if I'm a bit growly lately. Still not in a good place with my cancer meds. My kidney is not reacting well to the medication and there doesn't seem to be much I can do except wait it out. I'm disappointed and morose. Work is also being a bear lately and in general nothing seems to be going right. On top of everything, I'm beginning to really feel the effects of presbyopia and now have to start considering glasses as a permanent companion. I know things could be a lot worse and that i should be happy For what I have but lately it just seems like I'm going through the motions. Sorry for the lack of good news but I'm just not feeling it right now.
