  2. I have painted! Four minis got the finishing coat tonight! And, more importantly, no more Stormtroopers! I have painted them all! Nine from the Core Set three from an expansion two Scout Troopers two Dewback Riders six Snow Troopers four Jet Troopers four Riot Troopers, four Heavy Troopers and a commander-type! Uhh....Heavy Troopers? I... don't... remember... painting... those... ... It's OK. I can make it...Only four more...

  4. My niece takes after me She's reading in two languages. I asked my sister about getting her the Seuss collection but my niece is already past those. So sister and I discussed options and I went with the traditional 2nd to 4th grader's gift of Shel Silverstein (Falling Up, Where the Sidewalk Ends). My sister agrees niece will love it and devour all those poems post haste. My niece is turning 2 years old.

  6. That's rough... And you don't play D&D? What do you play? Is there something new you could try, a free RPG day pregen adventure you all could try out? Set up a rotating schedule of GMing? Everyone does it for a month, 4-6 weeks, before switching off to someone else. Also, yeah, new blood might help. Last night both Mrs. Hamster and I just weren't feeling it. It's been a long week. So we had date night a day early. Went and got kimchi burritos and tacos, watched the new Star Trek, and chilled out. I decided to switch things up on my painting tray... agai

  8. Brown mountains - by Bob Ross like the others I have doe I added a small fantasy element. the first three I did in two months, and each picture was an improvement. this one felt like a step backward. It has been 6 moths so I need to reconsider some things. Bob Ross's clouds look nearly effortless, and he warns against overworking them while he wet blends. On one of the previous ones I repainted the clouds completely. I think ill just do a cloud study or two before the next full painting. Also although Bob Ross likes lakes, what I actua

  9. That was my exact thought, too. The Temple Dragon in the Kickstarter came assembled, but it's unassembled in the blisters. I can't recall how many pieces either. I know this because I broke mine from the Kickstarter while trying to disassemble it to use in my ReaperCon 2018 diorama entry. I had to order a replacement, and was pleasantly surprised to find it came unassembled.

  10. It's very hot, so out of precaution I emptied the VAT of my 3D Printer. Decided to paint for a while before printing again. Primed my prints and a few items I wanted to paint as well.. So eeehhh... It seems I'll HAVE to paint, or I won't have room to put new prints.. Oh and Brutus thinks it's too hot to be active today.

  13. Nah, Loki is a cool name. If my netbook were tricksy and obnoxious, then sure, but no it's just super duper slow and takes ages to do even basic things. It was cheap, the processor wasn't great to begin with, and I think Windows 10 gave it some sort of brain damage. Before anyone suggests "just install Linux!!", know that I've already looked into it, and it does not appear to be a useful solution for me at this time. This picture looks imminently meme-able; I'll see what I can come up with after work. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

  15. So my fellow players wanted to get Hero Forge custom characters, and as the only painter in the group I did them up. The bard was in metal, the other two in resin. My goodness are the surfaces rough and the detail shallow! I was a bit embarrassed to hand them over, but they really liked them - it was super important that the figure was exactly the design they wanted. It was an interesting bit of calibration for me and how to enjoy the imperfect. I think the barbarian came out the best and my favorite bit to paint was the violin.

  16. There is a nice little random dungeon generator on the web: There are some samples of its output. It isn’t optimized for a phone. The guy that wrote it is still tinkering with it. (Hence the caption blocks covering rooms or bouncing out of frame.) I think it might run better on a laptop or something. But, the way I’d use it is keep the maps and numbered locations. Maybe use some of his captions as prompts, but grab some other Random Encounters from some other generator sources and just plug them in. Combining 3-5 of watabou’s maps would make a decent

  18. The first 8 months or so of being laid off were pretty sweet. That whole getting paid to not go to work (but before I started worrying about getting a new job), and spending lots of time at the race track.... If we include volunteer positions, marshaling is definitely my favorite "job". Otherwise, the 3 years I developed and implemented a first generation middleware solution was pretty enjoyable. Getting to focus on one system, with basically complete control over the solution, was pretty excellent. It was also exhausting, and not great for my health (I developed typ

  19. Stay healthy and safe! If your netbook gives you so much trouble it should clearly be named Loki. Never heard of it, googled it and it turns out we can order it in some Tokos ( Asian Stores) Coconut always mixes well with cookies/chocolota/booze/spicy sauce etc. I often use coconut oil to cook. My sympathies. He rode off to his last Sunset.

  21. Kind of why I like rune quest, you roll the dice it comes up as 100, then you roll again, it comes up as even worse, you narrate how you screwed up riding a a bull into battle, had it headbutt a tree get concussed, fall over crush your leg and then used your axe to amputate the crushed leg and throw the severed leg at the enemy to try and scare them off. Because who on earth wants to fight the guy who throws his own leg.

  23. Ron just announced in the Bones 5 Live twitch stream that the Bones 5 Pledge Manager will now close on December 1st, 2020. BUT, help them out and close out your pledges early, so they can plan production amounts semi-correctly. They were showing off a lot of the expansions in total. These should all be resin masters in the pictures. They showed off a picture of the Dark Depths expansion (it is missing the 2nd and 3rd shark fins, and possibly one other mini). 24. The job title was Technical Communications Illustrator. What I did was wade into either Autodesk Inventor or Unigraphics NX6 where the engineers had built the 3D models. Using those 3D CAD Programs I would disassemble the parts in an orderly way, capture a view that showed everything, then I would import that into AutoCAD. In AutoCAD all the parts could be carefully labeled either with numbers or words. The end result was a drawing that would help a maintenance tech fix an ailing machine. The company I worked for was respectful to everyone, kindly to handicapped fo

  25. Pathfinder Red Dragon #60028 is a hefty beastie and I definitely did not paint him red. Instead I tried a rainbow piece for Pride 2020 (finished 8/1/2020). Also my first painted model posted here. Pardon my photography skills. I used cut up Caryatid column #77378 for a bit of terrain on the base. My biggest metal model to date.

  26. Painted this cute little fellow up for a player.... I think the best part of him is his rosey cheeks! The most disappointing to me is the base - I need to work on those skills a bit for sure. It would help if I could overcome my fear of pinning. I've got another of these to paint again some day for a Chrismasy project. He's a great sculpt and a joy to paint.

There might be a few of us who would be willing to be substitutes for a video style game. I'm the senior GM in my group (in all senses of the word, unfortunately ) so, although we are playing a DnD campaign right now, we are planning a variety of things once this campaign ends or gets put on ice (its a double campaign the first is a low level saltmarsh campaign to develop the characters and build levels, the second is about the high level threa

  32. I've had numerous jobs over the years, and in all honesty, I can't really think of any that I'd love to go back to, or that I held in really high regard. I'd love my old UPS paycheques back though, especially the version of what they would be now though! I sure did enjoy twisting wrenches on cars though, but the pay model always drove me nuts (I hate commission work, and I hate per diem (by the job) based work almost as much) Edit: so I'll say this... Most jobs I'd love to do if they were enjoyable, but I'd love to go back to the days where I would take h

Note the hippogryph is missing from this pic. Dungeon Dwellers. And finally for tonight, the Brinewind expansion.

  37. As an adult, I don't think I've ever had a job I fully enjoyed. I enjoyed running chemical analysis; I didn't enjoy the company or the majority of the people I worked with. I liked teaching and tutoring; I didn't like that sometimes people just want you to give them the answers instead of learning (but hey, it kept me getting paid). Factory work on the assembly line wasn't bad, just some of the air-powered tools and tiny parts could make your hands and wrists ache from all the repetition. Probably the best job I had was my first one as a teenager at the movie theater. Free popcorn

  38. When I was in high school I worked at Jewel-Osco as a bagger for about a year. The way I kept my sanity was by working out a scheme with the other baggers to take over their turns on bringing carts in. Worked especially well in cold/hot weather and when there was rain. Those days I'd be on carts the entire shift, never having to deal with a single customer. Management let me get away with this because my habit of gathering every cart in the lot into a gigantic single train and pushing em in, meant that once I got the timing right, we never ran out of carts and they were pretty sure that I wasn

  39. Happy Trails, grandpa. That was the song they ended the late night westerns with, back in the day. Oh, the young brain is capable of learning so much, so quickly. We play a variety of genres using the GURPS system, mostly modern, sci-fi or horror. We've had a long running supers game that's on hold indefinitely because of the player that left. That GM only wants to run and play superheroes. Then they show up late or not at all for other games. The rest of us do take turns with whatever takes our fancy. We've played supernatural investigators,

  40. My current one. Enforcement of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act for a midwestern state. I'm pretty much an ecologist for the government. Not only do I get to travel the state exploring some of the most beautiful natural places it has to offer, but the restoration and preservation work saves water customers something like 4 to 6 million dollars a year in treatment costs (positive externalities for the win!). There's a few things I don't like, like dealing with politicians on a face to face basis and their hangers on. But that's outweighed by stuff like enthusiastic interns and the ability to

  47. Engineer is going to be mad at me. The service techs are going to be happy, though. Just finished writing up a report for a probable bug in his software - one that has been around for at least 6 years. Customers sometimes come to us looking for "missing money" in their credit card revenue - a daily summary report will say one thing, and the actual credit card reports will say another thing. Service has suspected for years that something could sometimes artificially increase the numbers on the daily summary report, but we were never able to identify what, and never could duplicate it.
