  1. Hello again. Here's another older paintjob of mine. This is the wyvern from the Bones 4 Core set. My players encountered a flock of Wyverns while traversing a desert valley. They were mounted on Giant Lizards and were chased by the wyverns. What ensued was an Indiana Jones-esque chase complete with daring leaps from mount to mount. All-in-all a good time. As such, I decided to paint this guy up to fit into an arid desert landscape. Had a lot of fun blending the sculpted base into the rest of the base. Also was really proud of the coloration I se

  2. The full moon casts a pale blue light across the rugged white landscape. Tall pine trees cling to the rocky ground, branches stirring, shedding their cold white burden as the wolves breathe past. The pack is on the move, and the land is trembling beneath their step. They move with purpose, something is not as it was before. There! An affront; a boat pulled ashore, a small group of fur-clad prey around a campfire, round shields and axes in sight. From the treeline the windwolves move, silent, swift, cold gusts of dark shadow, spirits of malice descending upon the men with claws of ice and fangs

  4. Well, my first miniature which had paint added to it was probably an Airfix 1/72 plastic WWII figures of some sort (none of those left in my collection) in 1971. So it’s getting on for 50 years...Oddly enough, the latest batch of minis I’ve finished was also 1/72 plastic, including an Airfix Robin Hood figure probably actually manufactured in the 1970s (judging from the plastic color) keeping an eye on these sheep. I’ve learned a lot along the way, and have more to learn, but...Most of it would be a repeat of what people have already said; bad brushes and enamels

  5. I don't have the first mini anymore, but here's one from the early 2000s and one from last week. Biggest change was learning how to paint bright colors, not using tube paints, and shading. Things I would have told me starting out, use the side of the brush for lines, stop trying to use tube paint for minis, prime white or grey, don't try to paint red directly over black.

  6. I started painting with the Reaper Learn to Paint Kit about two years ago. I'm blown away by my progress since then. I've always been some kind of artist, but of all my mediums, mini painting is the one where I've seen the most direct growth. I'm not sure what I'd say to myself. Probably just encouragement to keep trying new things and pushing my comfort zone. Maybe a recommendation to stop relying on washes and drybrushing sooner. Oh, and clean your brushes!! 8. I'm proud of the small improvements that I can see myself making with each figure I paint. I would tell myself that even though the figures are made of metal, simply leaving the armor unpainted does not make the figure 'done'.

  9. Something a little different for a WIP. I’m building spinner racks for my paints and tools. There will be a 6” and 5” diameters that will hold 8 paints per level. The Tool spinner will have a single level with 1/2” holes and hold 16 tools, paints will get separate spinners for my Oilbrushers ( one level 3/4” hole, 8 brushes), dropper bottles will get three levels with 1” holes (8 paints per level) and the 6” spinner will be for the big bottles ( 1 3/8” inch holes, 8 per level) with three levels. Hopefully this will help my chaotic workspace stay a bit more organized.

  10. The first miniatures I did were converted Britains Limited West Point Cadets. I was 15. They were made to look like 18th Century Danish Musketeers...sort of...& painted in Testor's enamels. Things have changed a lot since then. I am proud or, more likely, happy that I am still at it after 58 years AND can still recognize a need to improve.

  11. Hi everyone. Got a couple of Cool Cats to show off today. I went back and forth for a long time on whether or not a wanted a group of matching lions, or if I wanted variety. As a DM, I feel these would be used most often as Druidic wildshapes, familiars, or summons. I also couldn't deny that i wanted to try some different techniques on each, so I decided to go with a Lion, a Tiger, and a Black Panther. Tiger (Reaper Bones Lion 77341) First up was the Tiger. She was actually the Lioness from the Reaper Bones Lions set (77341). H

  12. What?!? How dare you Sir! How DARE you.... I would NEVER* do such a thing. ... ... ... *I'd totally do such a thing. In fact, I did do such a thing. Maybe next time I'll be a little less obvious about it. But probably not.

  13. Nope, they shall shame me forever. Or until I sell them. Um... I'm already working on a Rifts adventure (and characters) for Halloween. I'm going to pass for now. Besides, I do everything on paper, so it wouldn't work very well. Also, I'm guessing you have a game to prepare for and with "Surprise! Baby!" you're a little behind. I see you, Hamster.

  14. Ended today's after school game with a combat - but there was almost a battle against the rakshasa... it would have gone badly. Sharah is a rakshasa vizier of CR 14 - the PCs are level 5 - the paladin was the only one that could hurt it - and was also the one that talked both sides down. Yes, the rakshasa is eeeeviiil! but he hadn't done anything, and was helping them at the time.... The paladin had to apologize to an evil Outsider - which amused the rakshasa enough that he accepted it. Sharah is entirely driven by his own pleasure and amusement. At some po

  15. Not sure what I'm most proud of... maybe that I've kept with it. What I would have told myself: 'Go to Chicago!' I had an offer to go hangout and paint with Sue Wachowski and co in the 90s. I didn't, because its a long drive. One of my biggest regrets.

  16. I had a couple ICP CDs that disappeared years and years ago. Nothing of value was lost, fortunately. Only six players total showed tonight, so I let the regular DM take them all and just didn't play (I really don't get the whole playing adventures you've already played before/have run now thing; totally doesn't appeal to me), so I've still yet to begin my Icewind Dale DMing adventure. Disappointing. I've drafted, like, two and a half new stories in the last couple days tho. One of them I think is pretty all right. So that's nice.

  17. I don't even know what it was exactly or who it was made by. (But I replaced its lance with a stiffer one, It was a horse ghost or skeleton with a wraith (?) rider both covered in flowing ghostly robes or barding…) I did like the rolling stones and painted it black…

  19. At the far end of the hall, there is a door with a foul odor emanating. It is made of stout oak, boards swollen with moisture. Grunting sounds come from within. The door is locked. If the party knocks, a gruff voice exclaims, in orcish, "Occupied!" If the party opens the door, a very surprised and angry orc throws down his copy of Kobold Hunter and picks up his axe from where it was propped next to the latrine he had been using. Party gains initiative.

  20. You find yourself in a medium sized room. At the far end lies several desks. Miserable looking goblins sit behind them and rifle through scrolls and tomes. You know in your heart that a treasure awaits you here. You're not sure if it's particularly good, but it calls to you all the same. A long rope queue guides the way forward towards the goblins and their desks. It stands empty but approaching the desks any other way results in the goblins grumbling and pointing a crooked finger towards the back of the queue. Upon navigating the winding queue and reaching the gob

  24. I'd say I'm most proud of being able to churn out a decent tabletop miniature in a short amount of time. I'm definitely not out there making works of stunning beauty, but what I can paint in an hour these days is ten times better than what would have taken me a whole day 20 years ago. Now, if I could go back and give myself some tips I'd probably start by saying buy better brushes and don't be afraid of bright colors. Seriously, just because it looks like it should be brown doesn't mean it has to be brown. Oh, and while we're at it, here are some sports scores for the next couple o

  25. Well I got to play a small in person game of pulp Cthulhu in person last week. Was pretty fun not having to fight technical issues just to play a game. Their week we are going to a cabin and hopefully my captive gaming group (my family) will have time to get some playing in. Unlike board games, rpgs don't take up much space, especially if we are doing theater of the mind games like cthulhu and Numenra

  26. Wow, mind blown. Two years ago, Sam painted up some Bones ogres as clowns for Grump. TODAY I realize she chose Insane Clown Posse to base them on. Her parents let her listen to Insane Clown Posse?

  27. Since we're supposed to be getting a frost in tonight, I gathered the remaining pumpkins... Which brings me to a total of 16 this year. They appear to be hybrids of the Jack B Littles and the Pie Pumpkins of last year, and all came from seeds that had been outdoors all winter, as I left last year's pumpkins to rejoin the soil. In comparison to last year, the ones that survived the heat had a slightly longer growing season, up until the first frost a week or so ago, they were still flowering and two tiny proto pumpkins were on the vines, and they had started growing earlier in the sea

  28. An older miniature I started years ago, but finished recently. I think it was mostly the weapons (shading) and dirty shirt missing. I would say the paint job is average, but I do like the miniature. I decided to go for a simple, but interesting base, featuring a Nolzur's bottle and Thomarillion barrel.

Your quest for the weekend is to add to the dungeon's depths. Draw a map, describe a section, tell of a new monster, and/or share a treasure that may be found hidden away.

  31. Same - I've found myself paying a lot less attention to it, and a few other categories too. And that's before we mention all the scrolling on mobile. I also don't like that the CAV section was put at the very bottom, past off topic. That and its labelled a Reaper Game, but isn't it a Talon Games thing? It's even stronger for me... Sure, yesterday was the last day I could bring my work vehicle home... But once I survive work today, I have two weeks off..

Does let us meet up at least in one sense. ... and if somebody gets it into their head they want an Adult Beverage with their gaming, they can have one, and not need to worry about how to get home. There are advantages, for sure.

  37. When Grump pledged for our 3-D printer, his excuse was that it would mostly be for me. I didn't realize HE WAS RIGHT! He is SOOO smug about that. The thing he got wrong was what we would be printing. He was thinking buildings, but Patreon keeps telling us minis.

  42. I totally understand where your coming from for the "fix". It may be simple but once you've played & then you don't play, you wonder when you'll get to do it again. I think that is why when the shop re-opened in July after being down from March & then it had to shut down again due this county (which btw, we still are leading the state per capita!!! ), could get their crap together (gov'nah shut us down), it was one of the reason why I started my Saturday group. I'm back at the FLGS but I think I'm gonna do bi-weekly & let a guy that's been wanting to run games do the other 2 weeks

Somehow my favorite character has gone from Alfie to Vera, and now I am SO HAPPY about Vera and Cillian. It felt SOOO familiar. I'm pretty sure my ears would be going f-r-r-r-t too. Can't link that one, definitely, definitely, definitely grown up happy fun time!

We'll smile and be polite in front of everyone else, and grind teeth out of sight. Trust me, when I want a bridge burned, I make sure that sucker is vaporized. The issue that surprises me is that my sister is a well-educated, very talented woman who, while not a doctor, works in the medical field with numerous doctors; she should know the risks of her actions. To me, the decision should be a no-brainer. This, I fear, is where
