  1. Well either she is a giant or she is carrying a collection of children's skulls. Painted for a Trio with @Pochi and @Kuroneko The base seemed to take forever, the first one I have put on a slant, previously I built up a hill rather than tilting the base, and using park ledges for a horizontal plane. The tree is made from twigs and flocking. One of these days ill figure out trees. the painted backdrop is a Bob Ross inspired mountain on canvas that I did last year. They work pretty well together but not enough for me to tie in the colors of the grass an

  3. Using contrast paints from Games Workshop. As much as I enjoy painting minis using the traditional methods, I was always taking too long with them and wasn't able to finish any before becoming discouraged. A couple of years ago I decided to get myself back into the habit by getting into No-excuses-vember, created by @Bathory to help push painters through the mental blocks that we all go through. I got some cheap space marines to experiment on, and beforehand I told myself that it was going to be messy and it was perfectly okay because it was part of the process of finding out what works. 4. Well, it was 6 years ago (wow, time flies) but definitely this: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61240-spring-2015-exchange-rhapsody-in-blue/&tab=comments#comment-1119575 The first an only time I tried painting monochrome, just three shades of blue used. It came out pretty well, in large part thanks to some advice from @Corporea. Upcoming I have a bunch of vehicles I need to paint for SW Legion, which is something I've wanted to do but haven't really tried yet. May try the makeup brush stippling technique that I've watched a few videos on .

  5. There is an entire book on how to differentiate the multiple jackal deities of ancient egypt. It is unfortunately an academic text and not currently in print, though used copies and slightly defective copies can still be found for a few hundred dollars. One of my front teeth got broken in elementary school. my dentist at the time did what was meant to be temporary repairs. Those repairs have lasted 34 years, and have only now started to fail. I've recently been trying to do extremely bright colors. it turned out ok, but still needs wor

  6. Most daring would be doing the limited palette three color RVE Faction Fight, with bright colors, no primer, no washes, no blacks or whites, and expect good results. It's... passable. Needs MOAR contrast! At some later time, I'll work on it again with some proper washes and liners to give it some POP!

  7. It would easily be one thing or another I attempted ages ago at the behest of various Art Professors. (2D art, using paint, assignment required exploring pointillism or fauvism or Impressionism or one of the other ISMs from “Modern Art”) It was back in college, doing the four year art degree. I rarely attempt anything that feels particularly daring on a miniature. The most daring thing I’ve done with paint, anything like recently, that I can find in my cam-phone is: *** goes to look *** I blorped ( <= newly invented **technical term, you’ve read it here first)

  8. Not my best work, but good enough for government work. I received a huge influx of reaper minis so I need to start pounding through them. This may very well be the year (or 2) of reaper. Sorry the picture is a bit blurry. I think I need to clean off my lens.

  11. I cleaned off my desk the other day, making a space big enough to paint in. When I had it ready I was suddenly beset by all the usual fears of elfing stuff up, my skills sucking, my skills not existing anymore, etc, etc. The usual executive dysfunction stuff. I sat down and painted anyway. The results weren’t terrible: Though, I do wish I had painted that gun before I attached it.

  12. Kind of a mixed couple of days for me. Finished my big cable project at work, tested good, now to see if it fixes the problem that caused us to have to build it in the first place. Middle Daughter's boyfriend (and his father) has tested positive for Corona and have symptoms, so she got tested yesterday. I have to get tested on Monday based upon the last time she had contact with him. So I am on ROM (Restriction of Movement) until her test comes back negative. So I'm working from home. And the power went out this morning. So I wasn't able to start the stuff I was going to do.

  15. My 3rd oil portrait. By this one, I had a grasp of the very basics but was weak on color design. My instructor pushed me to kick all the colors up in chroma, far past what I saw on the model. In later stages, the colors will tend to get pulled back down in chroma, so it ends up looking less insane than in the early stages, which I referred to as 'the neapolitan ice cream phase'. Bright oranges and pinks and whatnot, it felt weird! But it was what I needed to do to start breaking past the timid lack of chroma in many beginning portraits. I think it worked out pretty well. I need a short day after the hellscape that was yesterday. @Crowley you think one 20 minute nap baby is bad? Try seven! And some of those babies were sick! Yeah, I need a short day. Anyway, the dentist I’m taking her to is a pediatric dentist, so maybe he won’t get bit

  17. Today is the first day since Sunday that my back is not hurting me. I don’t know about a great day but things are looking up a little... Why dirt? Is the regular track broken? In the search for Light Gray (that was the rumor —but wait, @kit is in the UK so, I suppose I meant rumour) they have rediscovered off-white.

  18. I try a lot of stuff and it doesn't turn out very well, but I have painted so sporadically over the years that my skill hasn't improved much. Last night I tried some wet-blending and it did not turn out well, which matches well with a cloak I tried to wet-blend a year ago that also did not turn out well. Hair is also challenging, trying to make it look nice and shiny. Yet to get satisfactory results on that one.

On this day in history, March 26th edition: 1351 – Combat of the Thirty: Thirty Breton knights called out and defeated thirty English knights in the Breton War of Succession. 1484 – William Caxton, thought to be the first to introduce the printing press into England, printed his translation of Aesop's Fables. 1636 – Utrecht University was founded in the Netherlands.

  25. Hello everyone, I completed this aberration Yesterday. The metal version 02838, of the Faceless Horror sculpted by Julie Guthrie. The number of eyes and teeth on this model is phenomenal. It is not an easy monster to deal with. However, I had a lot of fun painting it. I painted the inside of the mouth prior to assembling and I used Reaper MSP paints only. I started painting this aberration during Geoff Davis' class on painting eyes at Reaper Virtual Expo. This was the perfect mini to practice the techniques which have been explained. I also had a lot of fun painting all those tooth

  26. Thanks @Sharkbelly! Also, a big thanks to @Reaper_Jon, who was kind enough to feature both @Thoramel, @ManvsMini and my mini group shot on last weeks Reaperland show, along with my WIP pic. My work seemingly conspires to keep me from watching the show whenever my minis are featured! Submissions this month need to be in for the 28th, so here's my motley crew. As usual, I could have done with more time, but I'd still be working on that cat paladin this time next year if I was left to my own devices First up is my entry in the category of 'Goblin Madness' with @ManvsMini a

  27. I'd say every time I try something large I'm doing something daring. I'm not terribly good at making large, unbroken surfaces look good. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I painted the Wizkids Kraken earlier in the year and I thought that turned out well. But I've also got a finished Ma'al Drakar sitting on a shelf that's rather meh. Of course, if it ever hits the table none of my players are going to risk making negative comments about it for fear they get eaten first. So you know, I can live with that paint job. At the beginning of the month I painted a tie dyed wiza

  32. Slept weird last night. Woke up at 4 and crashed about 7:30 until the garbage trucks came by and startled the elf out of me. I was also started by hearing the front door opening having forgotten that Husband had to go to the pharmacy and pick up my migraine shot for Tuesday. So I'm pretty much hanging out here with one of the cats and trying to figure out what I want to do for the RCL next month/quarter. Might go play some Stardew Valley instead if my brain doesn't turn on soon.

NMM, TMM .. shaded true metal metallic.. . coloured metallic, glazing... it's a whole adventure, every time I pick up a brush to paint eyes! Which does make it more fun when it mostly works.

Acquired more hobbying related products! 2x Mr Hobby Mr Almighty Clips (GT90), a four pack of the small Mr Paint Station (GT68), and some waterslide decals for one of my MG Zaku II v2.0 Char's Zaku kits, as I'm going to be going relatively custom on that for colours plus a nice resin conversion kit (that I've yet to order, and will hopefully be doing next payday). Now I'll be painting the handles instead of my hands when airbrushing small parts!

  45. It was an invision update, not our choice. It broke a lot of the themes, now it will take some time to sort it out and either find adequate replacements or construct new ones. Not many forums have been around for 19 years and retained almost all of their content. Preserving that content, which we believe is an important feature of this particular community, complicates our ability to quickly fix large mandatory updates replete with many different changes that alter or disable many of our established features. It won't kill anyone to wait a few days while we re-establish functionality and
