  1. It would be nice to think about cyberpunk utopias, but somehow those just don't grip the popular imagination. Instead it's always overcast or raining, the sky is brocced, corporations own everything and everyone and surveillance is ubiquitous. There's money to be had, but barely enough to buy noodles unless you're connected...or willing to ignore corporate law. Devo Ranks eats the *fancy* noodles every day. They have Skillz. 2. Lots of pics here, a story's worth. Turnaround pics in spoiler areas. You should imagine Ennio Morricone playing the soundtrack, slow-paced to start with. Diegetic horse noises, hooves plodding. Scraping, dragging sound. A glow of a cigarillo and a long inhale as we slowly zoom in on the horse's master. The smoke exhales out of his nostrils, and the camera pans down to show it jetting from multiple holes in the Revenant's torso as well. The rendezvous at hand, the Revenant knocks on the coffin o

  7. After careful consideration, calculation and talks with HR, I have decided that I will take the pre-retirement in 3 years. There's actually a huge reorganisation going on and if I should decide to take the longer term, I might end up with either being laid off or redeployed in a undesirable position. So..Pre-retirement in 3 years and then search for something to do to add more money to the pool. We can manage as it is, so not going to go through all the stress. I will spare you the details but I've already heard some stories from people who got notice that in two or three y

  15. I have a disturbing childhood story about my my mom cracking "ground chuck" jokes in reference to a groundhog/woodchuck that got hit on the road near the farm. But this is a family friendly forum so I'm just going to skip telling it. I've probably been exposed to a lot of art, both visual and otherwise, by seeing or hearing someone else mimic it. The first thing that comes to mind are the works Kehinde Wiley. He does a lot of modern takes on classic paintings from the renaissance, and other, eras. Some are pretty famous and everyone has seen them, some are less famous and

  20. I have found a lot of songs by first loving the Weird Al, Pentatonix, or Home Free version first. In the case of the last two, I often like their versions better. Weird Al, though I often like his version better, it is for a different reason. ;)

  21. Waiting patiently for pictures of the contents to be added before deciding if I want any of the Swag Boxes. Normally I'd just wait for the minis to get their own release, but that didn't happen with the Virtual Expo ones (At least I don't think it did), and I'd hate to miss out on something snazzy.

  23. I'm in the same boat. I've barely painted any of the stuff from LAST ReaperCon... Actually i'm not sure I've painted anything from the last ReaperCon. I've painted a few things from the Expo at least, and the RCL has increased my output. I'm desperately behind on updating my spreadsheet... Anyway, I clicked "mark all as read" and I'm not even going to try to catch up. I'm sorry for any sucky times you've been going through. I'm thrilled at your successes! Happy Pride! COFFEE!!

Ping-pong ball, copper wire, some masking tape for rivet seams and a great many eyelets. Also a dollhouse kettle. The very top bit is the arm of a dollhouse candelabra. Hillbillies are Reaper; the one without the whiskey jug is a Groundskeeper from Black Cat. The little collecting vessel is a marble on a bit of found hardware. Or, for a more technical context, here's a shot in a lab! Hope you enjoy, and ke

  27. Most of my finds have been music-related; somebody did something, somebody else covered it ... and there are a couple of songs I have three or four versions of, because I liked a cover, stumbled over the original, and then found a second cover, not always in that order.

  30. For visual art, none come to mind aside from the occasional obvious parody of the original piece. Musically, there are great number of remixes or reinterpretations that are quite enjoyable. Again, no specific name comes to mind (I'm bad with names). In most cases, the original source is well known, so it may not really be stealing (licensing and IP laws are messy things). I do know there are some comic book artists that are famous "hacks" for constantly tracing, despite having pretty good looking end products.

  31. "Reapercon Swag" is up on the website. Trying to decide if I'll order any this time. Is it really con swag if you don't get it at the con? Do I need more pirates and plastic cups? Do I want more pirates or plastic cups? OTOH, shiny new stuff is shiny new stuff.... I guess I have a couple months to decide. I have a couple kickstarters due to deliver between now and then.

  37. I'm waiting for my "maintenance" inspection. My place smells slightly musty as I found some and cleaned it... And then it got super hot (70 to 90+ in three days) and I haven't really been able to open the windows and air my place out. I also need to wash the sheet I use to cover the window when the AC is in the window. Since things are suppose to cool down this weekend, I plan on putting paint on minis. We will see what happens...

  38. Covers of songs by other artists don't really count as stealing, in my opinion. But The 8-bit Big Band's cover of "Still Alive" from Portal starts with the exact same intro as Frank Sinatra's "I've Got The World On A String", and so I suppose that would count.

  39. While I disagree with your quote, many of my favorite artists I found by learning influences of other artists I enjoy. My former painting instructor is Ukrainian and one of the online schools I use is heavily influenced by Russian artists, so I found a huge swath of amazing artists that most people never get exposed to in the west. I guess it's more of a 'check this guy out for his brushwork' 'check this guy out for his shape design' etc. Speaking of which, check out Aivazovsky's seascapes, Shishkin's landscapes and Fechin's portraits :)

  41. Got a good chunk done in May, including a couple of Djinni/Efreeti, three Weird West undead, three Weird West monster hunters, a terrain moonshine still, a heap of Beast Men, including the Kenku, some Crooked Dice mariners, and an impulse Reaper cyberpunk purchase from my FLGS. Some of these are already posted. This month, probably gonna focus on pirate ship and lighthouse, but also need to finish some primitive extraterrestrials, a Nolzur's fey cyclops, and some Hasslefree minis that should be coming in. Maybe another cyberpunk...I've got the taste for it now.

I totally do not get the impression that when it comes to PbP engagement, I'm a total or possibly Anyways, I absolutely do not feel compelled to go on a tangent about how in 2021, it really shouldn't take a silly toon art style as featured on Teen Titans Go! to avoid the traditional overtly sexist cliches in the depiction of female characters in the superhero genre that are handily illustrated by simply posting the first (well, that didn't work) second random found-on-the-net image of Felicia Hardy. 46. Yucca root/Cassava/Manioc are all the same thing. My elder son introduced me to yucca fries at his favorite Peruvian chicken place, and when I went to make some myself, I was surprised to find that it was the poisonous manioc that I remember a long dissertation about how to make safe to eat in The Swiss Family Robinson which I re-read many times in early life. After that, I made sure that I cooked it appropriately, and generally leave it to the pros.

  48. I made myself laugh the other day. Haven’t thought of a brand name, but the company catch phrase was “Ladies’ style, Mens’ design”. It was a jeans line for women but using the design philosophy of men’s clothing. Deep pockets, etc. The sub-phrase was “Because I got tired of the complaints”, only with a synonym of complaining.
