  3. Thanks to everyone who passed on swampy/marsh basing tips. Experimented with a few and got an effect I liked. My jungle Tatzlwyrm now has some suitably wet ground to lurk in.

  4. It's been an incredibly busy day, and I'm exhausted, but it isn't over yet. I'm running on powerade, tramadol [prescription painkiller], red bull, and the last of the ice cream from the freezer. Movers are here, living room is a big empty except for a few boxes we will be moving, the appliances are ready to move, hence the ice cream cram and the dining room table is still there because they need it for wrapping and packing boxes. SWMBO office is all moved out, my office and the master bedroom are left, plus the kitchen cabinets to pack. Forgot to mention, they started just after 1:00PM and it's now 5:30PM. Not the movers we had contracted with, they bailed over the problems from the weekend. These guys are a local crew, with all 5 star ratings. And they are flying through the work, faster than I can get what I need to get done ahead of them. Four strong healthy young people, three guys plus the owners sister, have done more in just over four hours than I could accomplish in a month. I feel very old. GEM

  5. So I finally got around to finishing one of the Crimson Court members, Prince Duvalle. Currently Warhammer Underworlds is the only game I'm playing & really the only mini's I'm painting. I absolutely love these sculps. As soon as I saw them I knew I needed them.....anyway, not entirely successful with my painting plan I still like the overall finish. I tried to do a TMM undercoat with Tamiya Clear Red on top. It is there for sure however the more coats needed to bring the clear red to where I wanted it kinda nulled the effect. C&C is always welcome!

  6. Ho. Ly. Smokes. Auctions are terrifying places! The masses of people, the fierce competition biting like piranhas to snag whatever garbage has caught their eye, the constant, unintelligible droning of the auctioneer,.. *Shudder* Not to mention that if you reach up to adjust your cap, gesticulate, or do anything at all with your hands, they take that as a bid! I nearly spent $30 on some kitchen stuff I didn't need because the sun was in my eyes! (Thankfully, the aforementioned piranhas took care of that.) All the same, I snagged an Xbox One and fifteen or so games for 75 bucks, so I'd better not complain...

  7. Sally 4th's "ACP164: Shuttles & Spacers" KS hit its 48 hour mark, and I posted a review of their "ACP164: Male Protestors" miniatures on RPG.net! Besides anthros, the KS has miniatures and conversion heads for various sf series, as well as a space shuttle and a hanger for it. Anyway, figures are kinda niche, but, hey, an otter and his rock, right? 😄 Review: https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/18/18955.phtml

  8. I'd ignore it. QR codes are pretty nice though, from an information developer standpoint. For instance, on all Toro products these days, we put a QR code (the funky square with all the little squares that look like old TV static) on the serial decal. Have a question and don't want to go searching for your Op Manual? Just aim the photo app of your phone or tablet at it and it will auto take you to the product information page on our website, where you can open a copy of the OM as either an interactive HTML web page or a PDF, your choice. Or you can go straight to the parts catalog an look up parts for your machine. Here is a sample we made back when we first started doing this: (and yes the QR code in the above picture does work, feel free to try it if you like.)

  9. What am I doing in a bar or club late at night? I'm too old for late night nonsense. But anyways, I'm not scanning any random codes. And if I have my tagging sharpie on me neither is anyone else. Cause I'm drawing a mustache on the dragon that hopefully covers that code.
    11 points
  10. Nope. There's a few reasons why but mostly I have no smartphone to scan things with.
    10 points
  11. No...I don't go to bars/clubs AND I have no idea what a QR code is.

  12. HAHAHAHHAHA!!!! Given my age, I'm asleep or bothering my girlfriend at that time. I no longer attend bars or clubs late at night. QR codes? Get off my lawn with that nonsenses you Hoodlum!

  13. What Happened Wednesday for June 9th: 1311 – Duccio's Maestà, an influential artwork of the early Italian Renaissance, was unveiled and installed in Siena Cathedral in Siena, Italy. 1959 – The USS George Washington was launched. It was the first nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. 1973 – In horse racing, Secretariat won the U.S. Triple Crown.

  14. I'm in Philly. I half expect to see a whole dude dressed as a three eyed dragon. But I do not scan. I'm not a QR Code kind of rakshasa. But I would dare a random drunk to do so.

  15. Well, for this scenario to make sense, I'm either dreaming or in a VR game that I've somehow forgotten I joined? Either way, as every GM I've ever had will attest to, I will go out of my way to not follow the "shiny clue of obviousness", and would instead do absolutely anything but scan the QR code. If, somehow, I ended up in a bar late at night in the real world (not sure how that would happen, but anyway), I might google "yellow and purple 3 eyed dragon sticker QR code" or something similar to see what was up with that, but I certainly wouldn't scan it.

  16. So many wrong things happening here at the same time. Me in a bar or club. Never happens. Late at night. Never happens unless I'm at a friend's place. Attention grabbing sticker with *only* a QR code and no text. Suspicious, and will probably infect my system. My 8 year old Windows phone doesn't have network connection. Even when free wifi is available, it's not supported by most browsers anymore. I'll let someone else scan it.

  17. I don't go to bars or clubs, and have never utilized a QR code. I don't even know how to or if my phone will scan it (it's 8.5 years old and still going).
    9 points
  18. I still don't know how to scan a QR code and have no intention of learning it. edited to add: I didn't like bars or clubs when I was young enough to actually be going to them. I stopped going to open mics when I started bringing books to pass the time before I was called on stage.

  19. No, because I don't scan QR codes for anything.

  20. I kinda enjoy auctions. My dad always tries to make me go to them to do his (literal) bidding because I'm big and hairy and he thinks my big dumb stubborn countenance encourages people to quit bidding more quickly than they do with him. Good to be good for something, I suppose. 🙃

  22. Go out to dinner/order something for delivery. Suck it up, use the oven, and be sure to hydrate. Go outside and grill something (there's usually at least a little bit of a breeze) and hydrate.

  23. What? Where? LOLZ. No. I've only used a QR code when a restaurant was being obnoxiously trendy and refusing to use normal menus. It took longer to pull up the damn thing than it would have taken the waitress to go back to the entrance and get me one.

  24. Safe travels! Some additional trivia to go with your trivia: The USS George Washington was was 1 of 4 ships to carry that name, and the first to be purpose built as a warship. The first was purchased in 1798 and was originally merchant ship. The second was a German passenger liner that was converted to a troop carrier during WW1. The third was the submarine. The fourth (and current) one is a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.

  27. Seeing how nearly all of us are not bar or club regulars, and weary of QR codes, I propose to reword the question: Alternate June 9 Question: You're leaving your paint club or ReaperCon late at night. You see on a lamp post a yellow and purple picture of Reaper Sophie and a QR Code. Do you scan it?

  28. While normally I wouldn't be out late, but on the off chance that I am, if it's really late, then I am hammered beyond being able to be held accountable for my actions and my "friends" are having to assist me in walking to the next location. Knowing said friends, they would be 1. instigating, 2. helping to hold my phone steady enough to scan it, and 3. it's a DRAGON!

  29. Since we're talking an unlikely scenario because my favourite club shut down years ago, and most of the others died out during the pandemic... I'm assuming New City Suburbs is alive and well again. Normal me wouldn't scan it because Suburbs was in the heart of downtown, but if I had a burner phone on me... Hubby would probably do something lkke use a QR code info app or something to get more information about it, lol

  31. Have I been body snatched? Because that’s the only way you’ll find me at a bar or club And no, I don’t scan it, because my one and only experience with scanning a QR was just frustrating and annoying. I might take the dragon part of the sticker.

  35. After the heatwave that rolled the West Coast here, it's actually been quite nice here, more seasonal temps then that 100+ crap. We just need rain thou. I've been working on a mid 80s Monogram (now Revell Germany) kit. Funny but I think I liked the plastic back then better then today's Revell kits. Either way, I need to mow the yards, both are mini jungles right now. I might even find the bunny while I'm out there.

  36. Hi everyone, I wanted to share that we have just launched the third Dunkeldorf Kickstarter! Our last Kickstarter was focusing on "The Prancing Peacock" more or less a full tavern setting. Our new Kickstarter still focuses on the town of Dunkeldorf, but this time it's all about a Brewer "Sven Wentzel" who's also the leader of a ruthless gang of thugs. There's also more focus on the mutants that dwell in the sewers beneath the town. Finally, the third "Faction" for this campaign is Witch Hunters and their Hired Swords who are en route towards Dunkeldorf to root out the mutants they've heard continued rumours about. The Kickstarter can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kinggames/the-kingpin-of-dunkeldorf - With our last 2 campaigns we unlocked a lot of Stretch Goals and included a bunch of extra free miniatures, accessories and pets and we hope to achieve the same this time! 🙂

  37. If I was the kind of person who scanned QR codes, I might scan it. I am not, however, the kind of person who does that, as I have a deep suspicion of QR codes in the wild. I might take a picture, and then look it up to see WTF it is, though.

  38. It took two surgeries (the first time they cut away some bone), but after my mom's lumbar fusion she has been remarkably free of pain. Even pain that doesn't really come from her back. But that's not always to the case so I hope your surgery gives the same relief as hers.

  40. Well, the official word(from ReaperJon) is that they haven't heard anything about the UK Hub getting their find container. In related news, I almost had palpitations when I saw a 'postage received' email in my inbox from Reaper. I was so excited until I remembered that I'd placed an order yesterday.....

  41. My vaccination sunburn took over a week to start peeling, but it did peel a bit. I am now the tannest I've been in like.... 10 years. BC is on a good trajectory. 7-day average keeps dropping (now ~170/day, ~30-40 of which are Vancouver), vaccination rate keeps going up. Already at over 70% of eligible population on dose 1 (12+). Some communities already have 80% of eligible population which is awesome. Hoping the dose 2 schedule goes swift and smoothly - but we are still on a delayed schedule (8 weeks). Really hoping that the US/Canada border will open soon but with vaccination requirements to cross. Seems like the politicians are whining about it possibly being lopsided on rules; but it already is regarding quarantining anyway. As of today I'm 2 weeks out from my first shot, and I think my reward is.... I might start biking without my mask on. Never was required in the first place, but I did it out of extra caution considering case load and lack of vaccination previously. I put my vaccination sticker on my helmet and modge-podged it for rain protection, heh. Still not ready for indoor gatherings where there are unknown people (like busy restaurants), but may try to ease in by going to the small sushi place across the street that now knows my name during off-hours. Our neighborhood in particular has a super low case rate according to the map (almost 0 in the past week) so I'd be happier here than other neighborhoods. On Sunday I met my trainer for exercise in person at a park, masked up. Went well! He got a job at a fancy new gym and is transitioning to work there... and apparently they have an outdoor section. If so I am probably joining the gym purely for the sake of outdoor exercise equipment, since I miss having equipment but I'm not ready to work-out indoors with other people around yet. That and the trainer is awesome.

  44. Replied to something I've been putting off for a few days now. Ugh, darn time zones, 11:00 was latest I could get into one of these introduction to our services webinars. But hey, if ex-work is giving a month of it for free, I'm hoping to at least get a decent looking resume out of this, and maybe a few leads. Bonus points if it helps me get a new job, because I'd like to be able to get a few things with a part of my severance (and then shoehorn the rest into an emergency fund).

  45. Rolled a 25, Spear Down Skeletons:- (Got several bony dudes to paint, so need to precisely record the paint scheme). The scale-mail and shield is a base of Leather Brown, then Bronze, then a Brown Wash, then Verdigris (thinned 1:4 with water) and then a Bronze drybrush. The rusty spearheads are also a base of Leather Brown, then a wash of Dry Rust, then a drybrush of Orange Fire. Finally, they got a matt varnish to keep them dull.

  46. May I humbly suggest that starting out you use "light" weight and concentrate on repetitions? When you can comfortably manage two sets of 20 reps each, with a couple of minutes of rest time between sets, you are ready to add more weight. Might take a little longer to get to your desired goal but it's easier on the body. It also gives you multiple sense of accomplishment as you progress to heavier sets of weight. GEM

  47. No. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that I'd be out late at night at a bar/club (the last few metal concerts I went to were at such businesses), but paying attention to that nonsense reduces my situational awareness of what's going on around me. Still no.
