  1. This was my second time painting this mini, as I felt that the sculpt deserved better than the shoddy job I gave it a few years back. The nmm attempt on his vambrace definitely leaves something to be desired as wet blending still drives me to the brink of insanity. C&C would be awesome 🙂

  2. Halfling farmer here. I was the face but the clothes ended up muddled. The mud on the pants and feet is on purpose however. What do people do for getting clothing to splattered with mud?

  3. Interestingly, the Bones 4 Chronoscope Expansion box is still available in the retail store, and in my opinion a better fit for Stargrave than the Bones 5 one is. https://www.reapermini.com/search/bones 4 chronoscope/latest/77961 We played the first official game of our campaign today, and did the Salvage Crew scenario. We had 5 players on a 3’x6’ table, and used two crashed ships. I had a great time playing, but had the inglorious result of my Captain being killed by a Hail Mary grenade throw in the last turn. So, I lost all my loot and experience and need to start over next time. On the up side, I guess it’s better to lose you Captain in the first game rather than a later one... Overview of the table. I started in the near lower table. My crew moves up toward a physical loot token, and my Mystic Captain projects a Holographic Wall to block enemy LOS to it. A Ryakan divebombs some enemy Crewmen A Horat (proxied by Reapers Giant Sloth) charges at my Code Breaker. Desperately my Captain uses Control Animal (having to sacrifice over half his hitpoints to make it work). My First Mate and Hacker discuss the intricacies of unlocking a physical loot token and bullets and lasers whizz around them. They were unable to figure it out before the game ended.

  4. Apparently we could’t quite get the “locked” force dome marker to balance over the treasure on top of the ruins. I was unsurprised to find that several people had decided that laying down smoke screens with grenades was a good idea. I hope to have some better smoke markers made by next month. I note that the template is 4” in diameter, and that there is a Reaper plastic base in that size, so I have a few in my shopping basket. One of my runners had a brief moment of glory when he took out an opposing flamethrower man in hand to hand combat with just a knife. That player had heavy weapons as all of his specialists, so I was glad to knock one out with a “free” figure. With 700+ Credits in loot dragged off the field, I need to investigate upgrades before the next session. Thanks for hosting, @Chris Palmer

  6. I finally got my GW Fell Bats finished. We will be using these as War Bats in our Middle Earth gaming. There are more photos information on my blog if you are curious. https://thegrumpygnome.home.blog/2021/07/24/paying-full-price-or-nearly-anyway/

  8. Sunday's stroll through history for July 25th: 1788 – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed his Symphony No. 40 in G minor. 1837 – The first commercial use of an electrical telegraph was successfully demonstrated in London by William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone. 1978 – Birth of Louise Joy Brown, the first human to have been born after conception by in vitro fertilization, or IVF.

  9. Haven't really followed the Olympics in several years. There's the occasional update on the radio, but nothing more than that. I don't think I have one. If I happen to be channel surfing, I may stop and watch what's currently on. Are there any futuristic halfling baker minis? I could cover a lot of bases with it.

  10. This is the front half of a two-part ruin from Printable Scenery, printed on my Ender 3. It's scaled for use with 28mm figures. I had originally intended it as a vehicle for using my new static grass applicator, but that turned out to be such a useless piece of junk that I reverted to my old favourite, foam flock. There is a bit of static grass on there, but it was applied via the old sprinkle-and-blow method, rather than via this new-fangled static electrickery.

  11. Wasn't really feeling excitement for the Olympics this year. But after watching swimming last night and seeing the man from Tunisia win gold in the 400m freestyle from the 8th lane (considered one of the worst lanes) sparked the joy of seeing them. Never personally seen anyone win, let alone win gold, from one of the outermost lanes.

  12. Yesterday was a busy day. I bake bread most weekends, but this weekend it will be today. Since I’m just getting started, here’s a picture of my sourdough starter. Baking with starter rather than dry yeast is not hard, but is slow. It’ll be bed time before the loaf is done. It should end up looking like this one from 4 July: However, I have some spelt flour to use up, so today’s bread is 25% spelt/75% whole wheat. I think, from what I remember about the flour shortages last year, that the spelt may result in a lower rise. We’ll see… I suppose that it may resemble a flying saucer somewhat, from being baked in the casserole dish like that. Figure skating, specifically ice dancing, is about the only Olympic sport I do at any level, so that’s naturally my favorite as well.

  13. Got a new Kindle fire 10 for ??? From MIL. It runs a thousand times faster than the old one. Still need to get a case and screen protector. But that will wait until Thursday roughly. Anniversary dinner for pushed back to Tuesday because we had to make one of the cats a vet appointment. She seems fine but is... Coughing is the best way I can describe it. I got my shoes and dress for dinner today and yesterday, respectively. I'm hoping to get some nice photos of us at the restaurant.

  15. Plenty to paint with the new stuff so started somewhere simple while sorting through the small horde of miniatures that thudded onto the doorstep. In reality the head hasn't turned out that good , thank you sunlight, but did look okay and I love the purples on the cloak. The armour isn't quite how I would have liked but tried drybrushing the whole thing rather than relying on a deep wash. Fun figure though 🙂 Also followed the advice of Rhonda and made colour charts. Really useful as I switch to Reaper paints from others.

  16. Had a real game of Stargrave on Friday. First in person game in about 6m. Table not as fantastic as the one just above! My crew mainly comprised Reaper Chronoscope metal minis or Bones USA with one from North Star and two from Scotia Grendel. I did the classic thing of forgetting lots of powers/guns/moves my team had, and we forgot to play the pirates rule. But still great fun and am looking forward to next time.

  19. The curious question of how many hobbies I actually have came up. Made a list and it came out to 33. At that amount, that should mean that I could do a different hobby every day every month and not repeat myself. No wonder I cannot figure out what I would like to do every weekend.

  21. My 8 year old son painted these shortly after his birthday last spring. I actually liked his colors and the pattern on the Carnotaurus. Mostly I was over joyed that he didn’t glob the paint on for once. A few weeks ago I decided to paint the eyes, teeth, claws, and base for him. Them a coat of sealer. I think they look great for the toy box. Here are my crappy before and after.

  29. "Pics sniped" Love the classic adventure covers. I know Wayne Reynolds has one "Lair of the hydra" Good set, if I was into MtG, I'd be all over this one, but I'll just listen to the stories from players at the FLGS. Only thing MtG I collect are squirrel themed cards.

  33. I assembled my Sophie’s revenge… though am thinking of calling her “Witchcraft”… some thoughts. fairly easy assembly… but… hatches… any hatch cover that has something above it, is hard to fit, and has to be in a “half open” state as it can’t full open… so I did not add all the hatches… cannons… the cannons themselves are pretty cool… but… you can’t put them on both sides of the gun deck… you have to remove the upper deck to put the cannons, as they won’t fit just though the hatches. So to get them In to the gun hatches you have to tilt the ship and squeeze them in… you can’t do this to both sides as one side would always have to be elevated. this is why all 20 cannons are on my upper decks. here are some photos. One with Sir pug-scale… (Zoey) who is 15…

  34. Very little. I don't follow most of the Olympic sports, but I might randomly decide to watch something. I was not at home and did not bake. Even if I was, I tend to avoid using the oven once it hits 90+ outside.

  36. Just finished season one of the 1994 tv show Hawkeye (the literary one, not the comic book one...) starring Lee Horsely, Rodney A. Grant and Linda Carter. Still a pretty decent show. Some decent acting, lot of well-known guest stars. And Linda Carter is freakin' gorgeous and looks amazing in a corset, lol. Now I've started 1979's The Adventures of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, starring Gil Gerard and Erin Grey. Forgot how much I loved that show, lol. Awesomely cheesy theme song, lol. Fun Fact: the voice of the robot Twiki is done by Mel Blanc... Third episode in and they've got Roddy McDowell AND Jack Palance guest-starring... Next episode the guest star is Cesar Romero... After that, I've got the first season of Charmed on the top of the pile...

  37. Counting mine would spark a major internal debate over just where to draw the line about what constitutes a hobby... Just the serious ones, the casual ones? Is a hobby something you make time for, or only engage in when it happens to come up? Etc., etc.... I'll get back to you on that in about ten years or so, lol.

  38. @kazmania7 Thank you! First dragon I have painted, having a blast! @Darcstaar Thank you! Sinister yet friendly! Back of the wing done, the real pain in the butt with these miniatures is that they come fully assembled, so manipulating the mould to paint in between the wing and the mane was tricky. But, it is soft plastic, or some other type of resin. Time to start on the other half of his body 🙂

  39. A bit more. I realized I did a leftover mix for wings, so quickly primed the other nightwing. Thinking of making her more feral and muddy. Better pic of faces. The padding on my visor came unglued, but there's still unknown sticky stuff so I don't want to reglue. I don't want to buy a new one because it still works and it doesnt magnify as much as I'd llike. I also cant afford anything better. Urgh. Very distracting.

  40. RE: forum troubles I generally do fine with mobile aside from lack of spoiler tags, but typing in basic BBCode doesn't work anymore on mobile or desktop and it makes life hell sometimes lol. Anywho. Have not inventories Bones yet. I don't have a lot, but it may be a little while. I feel some painting coming on though. It's been... quite a while for me. But I'm feeling the call of the wild. Or the elder gods or whoever it is that does the calling, I dunno.
