  1. My first time painting something bigger than a regular size mini. I kind of learned as I went. Lots of dry brushing went in on the scales and the wings. Overall, I'm happy with the outcome, especially given that it's a first time deal. I will definitely try out bigger things in the future. The one thing I'm sort of disappointed in is the black lining on the chest-stomach area. The grooves weren't smooth, and I couldn't seem to keep those lines clean. Maybe there is a better/smoother way of doing it? Some sort of a controlled wash? Let me know! As always, all sorts of comments are welcomed! 🙂 EDIT: I realized that he has a name and a number. Narthalyssk 1120 from the core set. I'll make sure to refer to the KS graphic for the future posts.

  2. I thought I'd post some pics of these guys because I finally have them based. They're 3 units from the Court of the Craven King box. 10 Chainrasps, 10 Dreadscythe Harridans and 10 Grimghast Reapers. I'll just post them all at once because theyr'e from That Other Mini Company 😋 I like how the Harridans turned out, particularly their hair and the fading blue in their robes. The Chainrasps didn't have great blending in the purple on their robes. My original intent for the Reapers was to have a very understated midnight purple on the robes but I think it ended up being "not enough". I was happy with the basing and I'm off to paint some more! 6 minis left from that box and then I'm picking up some more to make it a full army! As always, would love to know what you think, all comments welcome! I think they're fine for a tabletop game!

  3. Here are my minis that I've painted for August, so far. I've got the DHL Storm Steed #03124. I took the name literally for this one and tried to go for a dark storm cloud look. And Loftis, Male Angel. DHL #03132. I used a lot of metallics and iridescent flash paint on him, but it didn't photograph well. I am a slow painter, so this has been a productive month, and we're not quite done yet. There maybe time for one more, cross your fingers 🤞.

  6. I don't mind batch painting. I mean, I have a whole Imperial Guard army for 40k sitting around (unpainted, of course ). The thing about skirmish games, painting up the minis, is that each one has to be a character when you paint them, you know what I mean? I tend to pay much more attention to detail and get bent out of shape when things don't go right when painting for smaller groups. That said, I've got some paint down on my minis. I have two of five different minis, so I've got one group with red cloth and the other with blue. I was going for the typical "red v blue" thing in video games but I just realized that I just made redshirts... I suppose that my "commanders" will have to have yellow clothes...

  7. Well he only napped for maybe 30 minutes, so I think I made the right choice. I worked on this thing and did some basing. Currently enjoying coffee watching the main bit of Henri roll in. First wave hit around 730-10, second started around 11. Managed to get Alice out to pee during that break. Currently getting some moderate rain. The worst of it is supposed to be from noon till 6ish. Hope everyone is keeping safe. Coffee!!!

  8. Trivia for your Sunday morning on August 22nd: 1485 – The Battle of Bosworth Field results in the death of Richard III and the end of the House of Plantagenet, and a Lancasterian victory to end the War of the Roses. 1849 – The first air raid in history: Austria launched pilotless balloons against the city of Venice. 2004 – Versions of The Scream and Madonna, two paintings by Edvard Munch, were stolen at gunpoint from a museum in Oslo, Norway. 2006 – Grigori Perelman was awarded the Fields Medal for his proof of the Poincaré conjecture in mathematics, but refused to accept the medal stating, "I'm not interested in money or fame; I don't want to be on display like an animal in a zoo."

  9. It’s handy to have a taste for small skirmish games. It’s a lot easier to get everything on the table painted when you only need two players’ worth of 4-6 figures each. When you get that done, you can expand to the next size of game. (For fantasy, I like A Song of Blades and Heroes, which runs 4-8 figures for a basic band; two of those gives you one 10-figure Frostgrave band; two Frostgrave bands gets you into striking range for a band for a game of Dragon Rampant with some ‘reduced model units’, etc….) Financial issues are not fun at all; at least painting what you have is a frugal form of entertainment. Hope things look up soon. Too late now, but I’d paint first…sleeping children are never a guarantee. But, this too shall pass….

  10. Sad to hear but totally understandable. See you at the Con has become a tradition for me. Hopefully next time! Speaking of RCon....minis are done! I had a mini disaster, as removing the Skittermander PCs off the holders, 1 broke at the ankles & anther the tape holding it on didn't remove completely. 3Ms new double stick tape isn't the same as it was before + it really likes to stick to resin. I need to figure out some other solution for holding 3d printed figures. At least resin glues well & on the other fig, I was able to remove most of the tape residue. I just need to touch up the figure a bit.

  11. Of course just as I get the grill lit, the leading edge of Henri arrives. So... grilling in the rain. Thankfully the balcony is covered, so I'm only getting a little wet. As soon as I finish the burgers, I'll be pulling out my painting tray and... painting something. I've already got my game prep done for tomorrow's game, but I am half tempted to just spend the evening working on a new section of the dungeon. We'll see what happens. BEER!

  15. Hello everyone, good Friday. Here's the second Ogre from the series of 4 Hook Mountain Ogre I'm currently working on. This Pathfinder model was sculpted by David Summers. It stands on a 50mm wide base and was produced by Reaper Miniatures under sku: 60030. It was entirely painted with Reaper MSP paint, with the same colors I used on the first one. I went for a simple skin tone; 29822 suntan flesh, 09659 ginger cookie and a bit of 29825 tusk ivory. Other color I used are; 09136 walnut brown, 09028 muddy brown, 09029 earth brown, 09284 lonestar leather, 09159 worn olive, 29848 jungle camo, 09084 pale lichen, 29839 maroon red and 29820 gem purple. 60008, Hook Mountain Ogre #1 and 60030, Hook Mountain Ogre #2

  16. This guy was so poorly painted for the longest time I thought he had really sunken, skeletal cheeks. Then I primed it and realized those are supposed to be part of his headdress. However bad my paint jobs are, I'll always take solace in the fact that I can at least improve on a Mage Knight base paintjob. When I did my Nolzur's Mimic a while back, Mkgallerystudio informed me that Tamiya clears look best over a layer of metallic, so I decided to try that for his orb. And he was right, this worked great!

  19. My 3rd encounter in the last month and I'll need to slow down a bit. Main Bones 5 WIP Specific WIP The spiders were influenced by real spider types. The big black one was painted like the little red and blue one, Opadometa sarawakensis, but it was too distracting, so the color is on the underside. See p7 of WIP for more. The blue fuzzies ( Poecilotheria metallica) are tarantulas - adult and juvenile, so the small one is intentionally less bright. More pics later

  21. Was off to Fredericton for a couple of days with my wife on vacation this week (we're sticking close to home, so it's just an hour or so away). Of course I had to visit the two main hobby stores there and picked up something from each. I found a box of Rebel Pathfinders in the 2nd shop, and in the first (conveniently located less than a block from the hotel, and across the street from where we ate supper) had something different I was looking for. Having just rewatched NGE, and then watched all the newer stuff for Evangelion, I'd just asked my FLGS if they could get in the kits, but everything seemed to be out of stock at the distributors. So when I found a Unit 01, I snatched it up. Looks like a fairly complex kit so I won't be doing it right away (I've only got around to doing one left on a standard Gundam so far) but it was very cool to find.

  22. Well, we're 3 weeks into "Green" (no government enforced restrictions). Last reported we are 152 cases (we were at 3 cases when they changed the rules). Most are still in a different region but I see both our region and the region with the other big city are both on the rise now as well. And the fully vaccinated percentage is still just barely moving, at 72.3% (the original plan was to not go green into 75%, since they abandoned that plan and went green anyway, the vaccination rates have dropped off dramatically.). I still wear my mask pretty much everywhere, at least inside. I went into the mall for the first time since the whole thing started (I'm not much of a mall person anyway) to buy new shoes on Friday. Probably about 80% of employees are still wearing masks. But maybe 20% of shoppers were.... I expect we had an announcement about going back to the office last week, but I'm on vacation until 8:00 am tomorrow, so I refuse to looked at my work email until then. They have been saying for months that they will give at least 2 weeks notice before we have to go back, so it's not like tomorrow I'll be "Oops, I was supposed to go in". My manager was pretty sure they looking at mid to late Sept anyway.....

  29. Hey everyone, looks like there wasn't a post for the next picks. I promised to make that pick if i didn't see someone choice, so here we go. Animal and elemental: 1061 and 1075 Since we're doing two week stretches, these will be up for completion on sept 5th. That will be good for me since I'm still traveling. Good luck!

  31. Hi all, I wanted to share some of the things I've painted over the last few months for RCL. I've really enjoyed the league, it's been a really great excuse to paint some minis I've had laying around and the inspiration from other painters has been really fantastic. The below figures are some of my favorites I've done so far. Apologies in advance for the picture dump!

The dead dwarf king is on a rough copper/gold blanket (stippled on purple, with napthol Crimson wash). Skin is moldy skin over heavy ochre/olive green/cayman green, ochre/olive. A few looks

  34. Update: Fully assembled, and looking delightfully horrifying. I'd highly recommend assembling all of the creature befor attaching it to the post. It slides up through a couple of tentacles that are sculpted curled to hold it, and once on they actually create a surprisingly sturdy grip. It's so tentacle-y and bug eyed and creepy and I love it. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

  37. I laugh because I'm Californian grown, though we did get some glorious thunderstorms in the Sacramento area where I grew up. I miss those. Eastern WA just doesn't seem to get the hang of storms. They tend to end up as just cloud cover, or a half hour of mild precipitation if we're lucky. It's like nobody told it to change the settings from default. That rain dial has a whole RANGE of numbers on it! Try something other than one! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

  41. Played Salvage Crew this evening. Continue to see the value in bringing a dog as it took down one chap and nearly killed opposing captain. I'm going to start replacing dead crew men with new minis unless I bring them back as robots...
