  1. Played around with some freehand today. Any Greyhawk fans around?

  2. Redcap minis are not easy to find, however these gobbos from Bones 1 or 2 are wearing caps that might fit the bill. I tried moulding on beards in greenstuff, however in the end they had pointy enough chins as it was so I just painted a short beard on them. A quick job done mostly with Citadel contrasts, but they have the toxic garden gnome look I'll be needing for the tabletop. The only one with iron boots. I really like the maniacal expression on this one.

  3. The latest in my series of trolls painted with a pallid palette so they can pass as Xulgath Spinesnappers. A lot more detail on Kallaguk than the Marsh Troll, however the Stegosaurus plates tie the pair in nicely. Being made from the soft white bones he was a bit front heavy and had a bit of a forward lean. Luckily the base had a handy tree stump I could glue to his nethers.

  4. Painted this one for a Halloween gift exchange amongst some friends. Very happy with it.

  5. Painted this as part of the RCL 4+ category and thought it deserved it's own show off thread. I really love this model. The size, ferocity, and the detailed base all bring to mind the Minotaur from the Greek myths. I tried to play up the man eating aspect of that by making his loincloth different skin tones cut from his victims. My group recently started using some modular dungeon tiles on the table and so I can see a labyrinth one shot with this thing stalking them through the dark coming soon.

  6. I still like the Sexy Devil Chicks strip in Oglaf. (I'd link, but... naked sexy devil chicks.) I remembered where it came from! While playing Skyrim.... (As for why I forgot - it was more than fifty years ago. I was eight. But, yes, I used to be an adventurer like you....) The Auld Grump

  9. I am. So tired. We're still printing and boxing things up. Reapercon is definitely the only con we'd ever do this for. It's still hot as heck down here, but I'm making a pot roast for dinner, simply because it's got a ton of protein for not a lot of effort haha!

  10. After several hours, I finally have a completely painted crew for Ghost Archipelago. This is quite the accomplishment for me. They may not be the best painted but they are painted. And, let's be honest, that's all that really matters. Right? Hopefully, I'll have another crew finished by this time next week. Of course, that does mean that nothing much else got done this weekend.

  12. I know right? Geez, I mean, save some for the rest of us! That said, through a little internet sleuthing, I've finally found a picture of @TheAuldGrumpand BD! @PaganMegan must have accidentally put the picture up by accident!

  13. Well, my painting has slowed down because now I'm working on sorcerers and wizards, and amazons. I'm hoping to as much done as I can before summer ends. Of course, the possibilities of being able to get together and play games keeps going down in parallel with ICU beds in my area.

  14. Was messaged Wednesday or Thursday about coming in much, much sooner than my scheduled appointment for my tattoo. That was supposed to be today. Got a text first thing this morning that there was a death on her end and we rescheduled for a couple weeks from today which is also still early as opposed to my original appointment on October 2nd. I was very excited to do it today but I definitely needed the extra sleep this morning. In other news, I'm going to visit my mom this week, probably stay a few days. Hopefully, will get a lot of quality time in.

  16. This was a surprisingly fun mini to paint. The wings came as a seperate piece which made it so much easier to paint. My only complaint is that it came attached to the clear part of the base making it impossible to paint the bottoms of the sandles.

  18. Since the House Tabletop topic in Off Topic Rampancy is only light used these days, with the disestablishment of the Houses, I’ll go ahead and put this here. We had the third game of our Stargrave, the second of our official campaign, yesterday at @Chris Palmer’s house. The scenario was “Steam Vents of the Undercity”, from the rulebook. Here’s an overview of the table. I apologize for any distortion; this was taken with my phone’s wide-angle lens to get the whole thing in. We had five players, and I started in the middle of the lower/right side here. We’re still working on various accessories, so the smoke markers (of which a lot got used) are expedient templates. By next month I hope to have something better, and to have finished up my holographic walls. In this shot, both my captain and mate are gathered up where one of my runners (Leftie, the little blue guy) has unlocked a treasure. That turned out to be the only treasure I unlocked, and, as last month, it wasn’t unlocked by someone with specialized tools. Being in the middle, at some point in the game I was exchanging fire with all four other players. I think I bit off more than I could chew. It wasn’t my month. I did lose one specialist permanently, and hauled off only one treasure, but most of my team lived, and the one treasure was worth 200CR, so it could have been worse. One of the players, with all four of his specialists being heavy weapons types of one sort or another, didn’t get even one, though he was doing a lot of damage. I have some book-keeping to do, but I am looking forward to the next game.

  19. And just like that, the WIP is done and I'm enormously pleased with it. My first time using oil washes went really well and I'm definitely using these again in the future. The title of the post is the title of the piece, as well.

  20. The thing is that I did not choose necromancy. Necromancy chose me! I started as a filthy elf lover, which amusing ended with me painting more skaven instead (damn you one of the best valued gw boxes). Then slowly over the years I amassed a collection of undead. My forays into the necromantic arts started with one of the First Reaper Minis I brought. It was ELDESSA(SKU: 02986). Hidden, she started the process of raising forces. Over the years Eldessa intentionally constructed an undead army for myself, whom was not conscious of the fact. Locked in a box she started building abominations after abominations. Most of them I even painted! I have 97 painted undead themed miniatures and 25 unpainted! My second largest painted themed collection is probably ratmen/skaven (slightly less than half that). Neither of which I aimed for... This is my biggest army and I blame Reaper, it is even in their name! (even thought they do not make up the majority of my undead figures, they do make some of the most interesting) If I ever DM we know what the first campaign will be! A recurring villain vampire (who keeps disguising themselves as another type of vampire so that the party never gives them true death) and their necromancer palls. .... Bugger I just realised that I can construct a painted peasant, priest and paladin army to fight the undead.

  21. A good weightlifting workout. The need to focus completely on lifting is meditative to me. It pushes my viewpoint to just 'the now' and provides perspective on what's causing stress. I think I like all things sweet... I introduced my daughter to a mocha shake this week... so yummy. Also cinnamon candied pecans, tiramisu, creme brulee, cheesecake, ice cream and frozen custard , cookies... and pie and cake (I like both!)

  22. Since Buttermilk was too much last time I instead went for a mix of Buttermilk and the previous Honey Brown. This mix was a bit more desaturated than I would like so I added in some Cadmium Yellow. The yellow was a bit potent. So is my lighting. This went around the borders and I also hit some of the holes to really enforce the grid. With it being a bit too yellow I then went back to my original mix of Honey Brown/Buttermilk to make a light brown. This did not completely cover the previous edging, just the very outer bits. With the bright lighting my camera is picking it up as almost white, but it is not. I switched a couple of tiles to break up the pattern and then tried using levels to get closer to the "true" values you would see under normal ceiling lights. This is closer but still not quite right. Once I have some walls painted I'll just take a pic with ambient lighting. At this point I have yet to do a wash, largely because I have to make more. I think I'll wait until after I've painted all of the walls and then just wash it all at once.

  24. Cake, pie, cookies, cobblers, crumbles, doughnuts, custards, puddings, etc. They're all welcome. Luckily, I do have a homemade dessert this weekend. First I've prepared in months. A "Cookies and Cream" cake! (currently 80% eaten) Chocolate cookie wafers, sweetened whipped cream between each wafer that you stack together in rows, and then completely cover with the leftover cream. Place in the fridge in a sealed container for several hours to soften the cookies. Serve!

  27. Depends on the stress. Normal day to day stuff can be alleviated in many ways; painting, petting the cats, reading, watching a tv show/movie, basically anything to take my mind off it. Heavy duty stress usually requires heavy duty work/cleaning/physical exercise; it's a matter of taking my mind of it and being tired/sore/worn out as well. >glances at waistline< Apparently, I enjoy ALL of the desserts.

  28. Well, my test came back this morning and I do have the little beastie. Thankfully, mine and Lady C symptoms are both non-hospitalizing, just like your basic variety of flu. Plenty of food and TP in the house and plenty of friends and family nearby [if we need an emergency run for groceries]. You all stay safe.

  29. Playing around some more :) Did some inking and then mixed some GitD powder with some white paint and put some on the bones of the reaper figurehead. Also used some of the white on the dead pirate king that's going to be the centerpiece of the ship on the bones and the albatross

  30. That is the face whose image came to mind when Shadow Raven posted the remark about "the most interesting man". Johnathan Goldsmith who was the face of Dos Equis for many years. He has a cameo near the end of the second Mama Mia movie, as the brother of Fernando Sinquentes, played by Andy Garcia. GEM

  36. Well, I had a few days off with my wife away, when I hoped to get a bunch of B1s painted, and some more Mandos assembled. Instead I mostly watched Netflix...... In the back you can see the 4 Mandos I managed to get assembled. Then I got the black bits done on the two tank B1s and 2 sets of B1 upgrades. And slapped some contrast on a whole 4 figs. Just wasn't feeling it. More recently I decided I wanted to try out some of the new upcoming units for the CIS, after their cards were spoiled. Turns out I didn't have an stl of a super tac droid, so I picked one up from AtoZCustoms on Etsy. And found that I had the Magna Guards from Seb Miniatures (on gumroad) as I support him on Patreon. So I managed to get them printed an assembled, for my game on Tuesday. I'll be curious to see how they work, and to see if they survive unbroken. Spindly droids are not really suited well to resin printing..... If they survive they might get some paint.

  39. Decided to test out my idea on the glow in the dark ship on one of the cannons. I'm thinking this is going to be how I do the full ship! I coated in matte varnish (so the inks will stick) then did a mid brown wash on the wood. Once that dried I did a VERY watered down tarnished steel RPS paint wash on the barrel. Anyhow, I tested and it still glows, so I'm thinking that this should work really well for the whole thing! Now to buy 3 gallons of brown wash 😄

  41. Well, it's been an.... eventful.....6 weeks. To cut a long story short, I've not been well and I'm still dealing with the repercussions, including medicine induced hand issues. A massive 'thank you' is due to all my rcl painting partners, who all graciously allowed me to postpone my entries to this month. So without further ado, here's my wip group shot for this month. I can really only sit for about 40 minutes before stuff starts seizing up and my fine motor control is a tad variable so I'm trying to focus on texture to compensate. I'll post individual pics tomorrow when I get more work done on them. Bonus squirrel for @haldir
