  1. Having painted the set of Reaper kobolds, I wanted to try the pack of 6 goblins next. Some of the mold/flash lines were not nice (e.g. down the center of the face), but I did the best I could. That being said, I'm starting to get in a groove of painting 6 minis at a time (the amount that my portable paint kit can hold). I must say: I'm really enjoying painting potential D&D monsters as a way to practice various skills 😀 I've been working on speed/batch painting, and I think I found something that works to my satisfaction (without an airbrush). From what I can tell, this is the

  2. Finished these as part of my Rangers of Shadow Deep project, so aiming for table top standard. Mostly, just a few washes over a zenithal, and some dry brushing. And a lot of GSWs coagulated blood effect. This was fun! Already posted pictures in my RoSD-WIP-thread before varnishing. I think the varnish tied everything together nicely. Very happy with how they turned out. Enjoy, c&c welcome!

  3. Undead King from Bones 5 Core Set. I gave him a backstory of going mad and believing the infestation of rats that brought plague to his ancient kingdom were loyal subjects rising up to kill the "traitors" that actually were just innocent civilians. He rummaged through the corpses of his former subjects and found the means to become a lich and raise a skeletal army to defend his "loyal" rat followers.

  4. I have to confess when I pulled this guy out of the core set I thought it was a goblin. In particular, it reminded me of a certain space goblin that backwards talks in riddles he does, mmmn. So he's green.

The Sunday stroll through history for September 19th: 1356 – Battle of Poitiers: An English army under the command of Edward, the Black Prince, defeated a French army and captured King John II of France. 1852 – Italian astronomer Annibale de Gasparis discovered the asteroid Massalia from the north dome of the Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte. 1991 – Ötzi the Iceman, the natural mummy of a man who lived between 3400 and 3100 BC, was discovered in the Alps on the border between Italy and Austria.

  10. Another I base-coated at ReaperCon and then finished when I got home! Played with OSL from the crystal atop the staff. The crystal itself wasn’t the best part of the sculpt and as such, it’s not the best crystal I’ve ever painted.

  11. This is the Bones version of the iconic character, painted in a rather quick and dirty fashion. There was a lot of metal and chain mail, which I did not spend time on, and a few details which I picked out. In retrospect I could have brightened up the armor some, but since she's likely to go on the table as a generic fighter I didn't feel the need to make her special.

  12. I managed to get a count of the new batch of baby chickens; there are ten. I was carrying them around in my pockets, trying to entice Mom Hen into the Henitentary before I managed to catch her and get everyone more or less safely settled. And now, I'm being dragged off for a day or so, for a nice dinner, a shower, and I've been promised a jetted tub. I'll settle for the nice dinner and the shower, honestly ... hopefully, the housemate has been suitably warned about the fun of getting Mom Hen and her chicks into safety...

  13. While most of this weekend has been dedicated to gaming (it’s Gencon Online), I carved the time back out to go dancing with my wife last night. Ballroom dance is “our” thing, and it makes me happy to be doing something with her that we both love. This wasn’t last night; it was from my son’s wedding in the before times, but it gives the idea. We don’t usually have pictures of dancing; it’s tough to capture in a still shot.

  17. Ugh. Life just seems to get more interesting. On the plus side last night I got to sleep longer and deeper than I have in months. I woke actually rested and it felt weird. Took advantage of it to clean the kitchen floor. Spent the day just reading and relaxing (how the Heck have I missed the tales of Bazil Broketail?) and finished the day off by spending the evening over at a friend's house playing board games. Which is where life gets Interesting. I discover on the way home that either I am suddenly allergic to cats, I have the worst timing for sinus issues out of nowhere or 3 of my

I need to clean tonight but once that's done, I'm going to start Picard. It's my reward for being a responsible adult. And it rained out here for the first time in months. I am enjoying every minute of it. I really hope to get back to painting next week, as I've been too distracted and stressed out lately. With NaNoWriMo coming, I want to wrap up my Ghost Archipelago minis before that starts. All of my free ti

  19. One of the others I plucked out of the Bones 4 set. It looked fun, so I grabbed it. Battle Report! Wins: * Armor was a fun use of blues added in. I watched Dr. Faust doing something similar to create some really cool effects. Mine obviously not as good, but I think it was alright. * The skin was a big win for me. I did it as a nice, slow build up and took my time with laying it up. It worked great on her face. * I was getting lost in the tid bits on her belt, but just used browns and then hlghlighted them up. It actually worked out pre

  20. Hi folks, I painted up my Queen of Hell yesterday for the RCL "Textures" pop-up. She's a gorgeous model, really fun to paint. I gave NMM another try and am happy with the gold but not so much with the steel. However, more experience is still good. 🙂 I realised when looking up her SKU that I attached the left hand incorrectly- so it goes! Now to paint the King of Hell to match one of these days... thanks for looking. 🙂

  21. Last week I finished up a stand of medieval city militia using a 4-color limited Zorn palette. This turned out to be oddly calming, so I went ahead this week and prepared a second stand of 8 figures (mostly duplicate poses) from the same box of Strelets 1/72 scale plastics. I would ordinarily use 2 stands for something like a Dragon Rampant unit, so it’s nice to have them in matching pairs where possible. I started in on them Friday morning, and had them varnished by supper time on Saturday (when we headed out to a ballroom dance event). I f

  23. It's the weekend, so time to paint! Paint club chose this week the Grave Kings 1 & 2 from Bones 5. I was stoked to do these up, but during the painting process I instantly fell out of inspiration and more into just putting paint on the minis. Not sure what happened, but I lost my enthusiasm for painting them. Maybe they weren't coming out how I originally intended? To be fair, I was more just paiting off the cuff than planning it out. Might have been why I lost mojo. Either way, time to detail the work. BATTLE REPORT!

  25. Back on my PC I can upload the final shot of the mounted knight Lucardus von Kemet. Because he is a famous character in the world of The Dark Eye, I put a sign on his base to give his name clearly to everyone. As a leader of the Undead and user of dark powers I gave him a look similiar to his underlings. He is a desperate man who wields war in the name of his demonic mistress. Painting process is in the wip forum.

  29. Got two more nearly done. I tried do keep the translucent look to the hands. I love the technique that was shared with me a while back about "priming" these with matte medium to help paint stick to them and not lose that clear look. Wins: * Both hands came out pretty good with easy enough highlighting with dry brushing. * The purple was an interesting attempt. I had actually tried using a purple wash below in the smoke area, but it didn't go well. Swapped it back to blue. * The purpled did, however keep more of that 'clear' l

Wins: * Cape and layers came out well. * Staff shading was good. * metal highlights worked out well. Used an ink wask to fill in the deeper areas and shade and edge highlighted. * brightened the scale mail in the front which I think added a cool effect. Misses: * The staff and bones didn't differentiate enough. I tried doing a dry brush that failed pretty bad. Then went back and just did simila

  44. Got started on the main spearmen unit... Glued down the foam on part of the movement tray... Drilled out the Skeletal Champion's hand, put some floral wire through it, and unleashed the contour putty. It came out quite thick, but I figured I'd err on the side of stability. Broke out the new wood putty and slathered some on the base. The original spearmen, Sir Rathos, and the Witch I used the new putty on the bases, learning in the process that I'd adapted a bit too well to using the older runny stuff so switched back to the old for the unpainted minis.

Plus, it's a cheap pringles can, which is always useful for hobbying in some way. As for the can of Coke, well, I'm just addicted.
