  3. My favourite turnip stories. My mom told me she always hated turnips. As a kid she had to finish eating her supper if she wanted to have ice cream for dessert. She threw a fit and refused to eat her turnips. So grandpa gave her the ice cream. On top of her turnips and made her sit there and eat all of it. A few years ago a distant relative of mine decided to grow a garden. He's about 35 years old and had never experienced the joy of turnips. So he planted a lot of them and they grew well. After eating a couple he realised they weren't to his taste. So he tries to give them away to

  4. This morning I walked into the outer cellar and noticed that the door of a cabinet was slightly open. Oddly enough it was kinda stuck and I needed to apply some force to open the door. Well...if you store a can of polyurethane foam, make sure nothing presses against the button when you close the door of the cabinet... There was a large chunk of foam there.. Luckily it was easy to remove but it was kinda funny to find it like this.

  7. This is the Bones version of the iconic character, painted in a rather quick and dirty fashion. There was a lot of metal and chain mail, which I did not spend time on, and a few details which I picked out. In retrospect I could have brightened up the armor some, but since she's likely to go on the table as a generic fighter I didn't feel the need to make her special.

  8. Despite running on 4 hours sleep, I decided to get up in time to get pictures of the beautiful dawn light. Still shuffling, but I managed to do it without my sticks this time. Pity that I was exhausted afterwards but it's all about building myself back up right now. Had tea, toast and cake and am now recovering on the sofa underneath two of the cats. All in all, not the worst way to spend a Monday.

  9. One of the first figures I pulled out of the Bones5 core set was this guy. Had fun doing him in non traditional colors. The flash made him look a little brighter than it really is.

  10. The papal schism era is funny if you think about these guys as toddlers fight over who gets to wear the big hat. Until you remember that thousands of people died in the wars over that stupid hat.

  11. Apparently, after putting my name into a generator, my pirate name/moniker comes out to Stutterin' Mitch Teach. If I use my middle names, I become Epileptic Broderick Hawkins. Intuition tells me I wasn't meant to be a feared pirate.

  12. Finished these as part of my Rangers of Shadow Deep project, so aiming for table top standard. Mostly, just a few washes over a zenithal, and some dry brushing. And a lot of GSWs coagulated blood effect. This was fun! Already posted pictures in my RoSD-WIP-thread before varnishing. I think the varnish tied everything together nicely. Very happy with how they turned out. Enjoy, c&c welcome!

  14. Last week I finished up a stand of medieval city militia using a 4-color limited Zorn palette. This turned out to be oddly calming, so I went ahead this week and prepared a second stand of 8 figures (mostly duplicate poses) from the same box of Strelets 1/72 scale plastics. I would ordinarily use 2 stands for something like a Dragon Rampant unit, so it’s nice to have them in matching pairs where possible. I started in on them Friday morning, and had them varnished by supper time on Saturday (when we headed out to a ballroom dance event). I f

  16. Hi folks, I painted up my Queen of Hell yesterday for the RCL "Textures" pop-up. She's a gorgeous model, really fun to paint. I gave NMM another try and am happy with the gold but not so much with the steel. However, more experience is still good. πŸ™‚ I realised when looking up her SKU that I attached the left hand incorrectly- so it goes! Now to paint the King of Hell to match one of these days... thanks for looking. πŸ™‚

  17. I have to confess when I pulled this guy out of the core set I thought it was a goblin. In particular, it reminded me of a certain space goblin that backwards talks in riddles he does, mmmn. So he's green.

  19. @redambrosia my sympathies. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to go through. It's been 14 yrs ago since my mother passed away and 11 yrs ago my dad passed away, I'm over it...but I still think of them. Only yesterday I saw a squirrel in our garden eating hazelnuts I had put out there and I said to my girl that my dad would have love to see that. The hurting will stop, the memories will stay and still after years you will have moments that you miss them. I wish you strength.

  20. I played kill team this weekend. I am off the right side of the picture. you can see the dynamite throwing stealer sneaking along the bottom of the map. He had a really good day successfully hucked dynamite at imperial guard and space marines. I lost both games, but dynamite is it's own reward.

  21. Undead King from Bones 5 Core Set. I gave him a backstory of going mad and believing the infestation of rats that brought plague to his ancient kingdom were loyal subjects rising up to kill the "traitors" that actually were just innocent civilians. He rummaged through the corpses of his former subjects and found the means to become a lich and raise a skeletal army to defend his "loyal" rat followers.

Mondays, bleh... but here's your Monday morning trivia offering for September 20th: 1378 – Cardinal Robert of Geneva was elected as Pope Clement VII, in opposition to the previously elected Pope Urban VI, beginning the Papal Schism. 1860 – The future King Edward VII of the United Kingdom began the first visit to North America by a Prince of Wales. 1973 – Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match at the Houston Astrodome.

  24. Having a painting area again, and the motivation to use it. The Spring and Summer were an apathetic hellscape for me, so getting back into the groove is quite joyous. The fact I finished two small units on Friday, and two minis before that this month puts me in a rate of getting things done that I haven't seen in awhile and gives me hope that I might get the largest unit finished by the end of the month.

  27. Having painted the set of Reaper kobolds, I wanted to try the pack of 6 goblins next. Some of the mold/flash lines were not nice (e.g. down the center of the face), but I did the best I could. That being said, I'm starting to get in a groove of painting 6 minis at a time (the amount that my portable paint kit can hold). I must say: I'm really enjoying painting potential D&D monsters as a way to practice various skills πŸ˜€ I've been working on speed/batch painting, and I think I found something that works to my satisfaction (without an airbrush). From what I can tell, this is the

  37. This one is coming along nicely. A few hours later got some highlights done. Antlers did. Skin on the face touched up. Beard kind of done. Eyes done...i think? Next up will be the mouth and teeth. I have no idea what to do with those strange ports on his head behind his eyes. Open for ideas. Also struggling with beard and mustache on this guy. Need ideas for his tail color. As well a need color ideas for spines on his arms and legs.

  38. Back on my PC I can upload the final shot of the mounted knight Lucardus von Kemet. Because he is a famous character in the world of The Dark Eye, I put a sign on his base to give his name clearly to everyone. As a leader of the Undead and user of dark powers I gave him a look similiar to his underlings. He is a desperate man who wields war in the name of his demonic mistress. Painting process is in the wip forum.

  45. I managed to get a count of the new batch of baby chickens; there are ten. I was carrying them around in my pockets, trying to entice Mom Hen into the Henitentary before I managed to catch her and get everyone more or less safely settled. And now, I'm being dragged off for a day or so, for a nice dinner, a shower, and I've been promised a jetted tub. I'll settle for the nice dinner and the shower, honestly ... hopefully, the housemate has been suitably warned about the fun of getting Mom Hen and her chicks into safety...
