  1. I went with saturated colors on this one. Enough of the black and brown, this Sascha is from a dimension where the future's so bright you gotta wear shades.

  2. I've been slowly (very slowly) working my way through some of the larger non-humanoid figures in my collection. This one took me about a year to complete, mostly because of the wings. I haven't figured out how to do the translucent effect yet, but I'm getting closer.

  3. This was a Reapercon special a year or three ago, and part of my end of year paint binge for 2020. Despite that. it didn't get finished until July of this year. It's very small, would just fit on a round 1" base.

  6. So, Grump talked me into letting BD have her pirate Halloween costume for her birthday. Today she wanted to wear it to kindergarten. The least surprising thing in the history of completely unsurprising things.

  8. @Sylverthorne some friends of mine who have chickens use corrugated fiberglass sheeting for their coop roofs. Weatherproof and the lighter colored stuff allows some extra light during the day. Keep this stuff away fro @Chaoswolf and @Glitterwolf, there is no telling what kind of mischief they would get into!

  11. Actually, cement cures best when it is kept wet. As long as you can keep the are where the cement work is to be done from flooding you shouldn't have any problems. The process of cement hardening is a curing process not a drying process. If you put your hand near a freshly poured concrete slab, as in four to twelve hours after the pour, you will quickly discover that the process of curing is generating substantial amounts of heat. GEM Addendum: For really large concrete pours they will install small diameter piping through which cool water is circulated to slow the rate of cu

  15. Presenting the Frost Giant Heroine from Reaper. Not my best work, I'm still not great at getting all the mold-lines off these PVC minis, plus I was painting her to help work through some issues I was having so she's a bit on the rough and basic side. Was still a lot of fun to paint up though, I'll have to get the other one done now. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

  16. Summer means heat, thunderstorms, noisy cicadas during twilight bicycle rides, and beach/pool days. It smells like flowers, sunscreen, and rain. Take a day off work and go do fun things. Relatedly, I happily discovered today that I have enough vacation left for the year to take a week off at Thanksgiving, and Xmas, and take a day off every 2 weeks for the rest of the year!

  17. …Let there be much rejoicing. It means 100 degree days. But weirdly this last summer was mild and there were only 8 such days. 18-20 such days is normal.

  19. Hi folks, I painted up my Queen of Hell yesterday for the RCL "Textures" pop-up. She's a gorgeous model, really fun to paint. I gave NMM another try and am happy with the gold but not so much with the steel. However, more experience is still good. 🙂 I realised when looking up her SKU that I attached the left hand incorrectly- so it goes! Now to paint the King of Hell to match one of these days... thanks for looking. 🙂

  20. Depends on what kind of balance. Blowing stuff up in Destiny 2 or adding to my habitat in Subnautica. Painting the easy parts of minis (i.e. not the eyeballs!)

  29. I made this piece of scenery for whenever I get around to playing some kind of zombie game. It's just foamboard, dowels and coffee stirrers. The image was downloaded, printed, stuck on, and then ruined with lots of washes and the blunt edge of an X-acto knife (Quatro was a soft drink sold in the UK in the 80s; I wanted a bit of a retro look). I added some random graffiti to the back. It was mainly painted with cheap craft paints. The junk on the base is by Reaper, TTCombat and Debris of War, as well as a couple of stones from my drive.

  33. Much of my imbalance is caused by too much thinking or dwelling on things. Therefore I do something mind-numbing, like watch a tv/movie marathon of something I've seen already, or do something repetitious that requires just enough focus to get into a Zen-like flow (mold-line removal, anyone?).

  34. Normally I don't like to name the specific customers I'm dealing with, but this one made me chuckle enough I had to. Yesterday I had a training session with a site, and some questions came up that I couldn't answer. This morning I'm going through my notes, and I'm writing up the email to engineering to address these questions, and I got to write this line: "Yesterday, during my training session with Bigfoot, these questions came up:"

  38. It's the flooding I'm worried about; when it rains around here, it really doesn't kid around. Few days of cool and damp, maybe some misting at night, then.. BLOOSH. Almost solid rain for a day or two. Soggy chickens for days, even if they stay under the coop, glaring at me... I don't mind, but they don't like to be wet.

Predictable issues. Although the netting having been in place at the time makes me think that one wasn't one of our resident owls. Haven't had that happen again, as long as I remember to lock everybody up. But I'm irritated about the cheap plywood roof; that will have to be addressed. 😕 As for workings... I'd settle for as stress-free a well-drilling as can be got; and everything that's gonna go a

  44. Ugh, overslept... that's one thing for What Happened Wednesday, but here's some others for September 22nd: 1948 – Gail Halvorsen officially started parachuting candy to children as part of the Berlin Airlift. 1979 – A bright flash, resembling the detonation of a nuclear weapon, was observed near the Prince Edward Islands. Its cause was never determined. 1991 – The Dead Sea Scrolls were made available to the public for the first time.

  46. If they do yours the way they did ours they will install the casing and then just pour enough concrete around the top of the casing pipe to hold the pipe vertical and stationary. They won't run cement down the entire length of the casing. The "plug" will go just deep enough to support the pipe so any water that goes into the shaft will just go all the way to the bottom or whatever point there is enough material packed around the casing to prevent further descent. For our job it looks like they did about two portable mixer loads for the entire work. GEM
