  1. Normally i wait to post show off once I'm done basing. In this case, I was just using it to test some colors. Using the color wheel, i picked a triad i tight was fun. I figured this gross figure needed a green belly. From there i looked at what made up the triad: orange and purple. Challenge accepted. I took the green bottom and touched it up with a hint of purple. Then took the orange and did the same on top. I noticed the orange didn't take to showing the detail well, so i added a hint of yellow in the mix and it helped contrast the shaded spots. Still wanted more. Made a light wash of that purple and filled in the sections and gaps in the chitin. Worked well. For a three color combo it sure does look weird, but also some how works. I'm digging this color theory thing. Here's the progress photos.

  2. This describes a rather awkward conversation I had today at work:

  3. I picked up this mini at Reapercon 2019 intending to paint it up for the next year. As it turned out, I hadn't started painting it yet when I started packing for Reapercon 2020. So I got to working on it and surprisingly got it finished in time to enter it into the competition (even though the judges chose another of my entries to judge). One advantage to painting him at Reapercon was that I could ask Jason Weibe about some of the details on him that weren't cast quite as clearly as we'd have all liked (he was great and even found the original render to show me).

  4. Presenting the Chubby Lamplighter, along with his friends Skinny Lamplighter and Lady Lamplighter (who I haven't painted yet), who are part of the Jedza set from the game Malifaux by Wyrd Games. Despite loving Malifaux figures I stopped buying them because they just look so awful when I paint them up, but after seeing this set being unboxed on Youtube I had to pick them up. Not my best work in general (I think I spent more time reattaching the incredibly fragile dangly bits on his staff than painting him), but much better than I usually manage with the Malifaux range. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

  5. Sounds about right. One of the engineers at work asked to borrow a knife the other day, and I asked a similar question - I had to elaborate that I had on my person a key knife on my keychain, a Testors hobby knife, a utility knife, a folding blade, and a machete out in the trunk of my car.

  6. See, I have this type of conversation but with adhesives instead. "Whatcha gluin'/tapin'?"

  7. I decided to give each of the after school groups different side missions while they are in Viacanali. Should be fun, in a... somewhat espionage filled way. The City and Kingdom of Sharlaeone does not entirely trust their trade partner. The Auld Grump I have had similar reactions from both Jackie and Megan - I do cooking - I have an assortment of bladey things.

  8. How about a nice orb weaver spider (species gasteracantha cancriformis, thanks Google)? Took this one on my porch quite a while back.

  9. No going out for me at the moment, so no piccys. But if I could, I would probably take a picture of the abandoned toilet block in the park across the road. Might sound like a weird definition of spooky, but it's been abandoned for over twenty years at this point, the trees are taking over and is half lost amongst the undergrowth. Even on a bright day that little bit of the park comes off as surprisingly creepy.

  10. I hope everyone is doing the best they can. October has been... well I can not say and keep it family friendly. I got a 'Promotion' at work.... now I am stepping down. I took it for a couple of reasons and am stepping down for reasons. I have been stressed beyond my capacity. I might get to keep some of my hours, but I am not sure. I am debating trying to find a new job. This one has me on burn out.. again. I go through it every now and again, but this time, I think it might be time for a change. I do not know. I bought some new GURPS books, PDFs really, the other day. They are more of I want to see/read them. They are the Autoduel book and 6 of the 7 Road Atlas' for Autoduel... read Carwars. They are 3rd edition, but should make for a nice read and maybe I might use some of it in a game or three. My GURPS Traveller PbP game is still going, although at a slower pace, because of my life, but at least it is still going. I hope to be able to really get back to it in the next few weeks.

  11. I do declare, it appears to be Friday... let's start the historical happenings for October 22nd: 1730 – Construction of the Ladoga Canal was completed, one of the first major canals in Russia to bypass the stormy waters of Lake Ladoga. 1879 – Using a filament of carbonized thread, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric incandescent light bulb (it lasts 13.5 hours before burning out). 1976 – Red Dye No. 4 was banned by the US Food and Drug Administration after it was discovered that it caused tumors in the bladders of dogs.

  12. Alright. I give up. Any excuse to get walkies... that doesn't involve getting a dog, heck off with your W.O.O.F. Pamphlets. Between cats, chickens and Andi's inability to live with a canine, that ain't happening. I was right, though. This thing IS rather clever, if otherwise so very much not my cup of tea. However. Does anyone even still play Pokemon Go?

  13. Question Oct. 21th Do you save the seeds from the pumpkin to eat or to plant? Nope, we buy 3 pumpkins a year, one for me and one for each spawn. We are planning on spending the afternoon this weekend Planning and sculpting. we roasted the seeds a few years ago and it was way too much work for a snack that none of us really liked. Kristof's foam pumpkins sound like a fun alternative, I will look into doing it that way this year.

  15. Just got back from a field day at a large forest/wetland complex built in the last 11 years. When they started this was literally just a table-flat abandoned farm field. Now look at it! In the foreground is a burr reed dominated wetland and the trees in back are all around 6 to 10 meters in height. Give it another decade and this is going to be an ecological gem. This isn't one of my projects, but man was I blown away. I even found puffballs already growing in there. We were out here because our unit has changed personnel quite a bit since the pandemic and a lot of folks haven't met anyone in person. So we all got together here for a meet and greet. Most of the newcomers are management and not technical experts, so I fielded a lot of questions about what we were looking at. Which I took advantage of by discussing all the things in the program we need in the context of what we were walking through. That mostly means drones, I want them to buy me a fancy drone and pay for my training and licensing. Hopefully one of them will think that's a good idea. At the end of the day we had a plant scavenger hunt. We used the list of recorded species at the site and then broke into teams and saw how many we could find in twenty minutes. I had a manager and an engineer on my team, not great for plant ID. But we still managed come in second with 42 species. The winner got 43. But they had a botanist, the guy who used to do my job and our bug lady. So I'm still happy with the results. Anyways, here's a picture of some Milkweed Beetles. Cheers all and go find some nature.

  16. This is an odd mini that started life as a Halloween decoration. I picked it up from Michael's last year, mounted it on a 50mm base and added some green stuff for the muscly bits, eyeball and crystal growths.

  17. Thanks for reminding me I have a hobo-knife in my bag I picked up this week. Going to clean it off (has dirt on it), check how sharp it is, and see where I'm going to keep it. It is the weekend for me and I am ready for it. It poured when I started work and I was so glad to have a dryer in the office. Myself and several of us working were drying our jackets, shirts, hats, and masks when we went on lunch. Dry clothes were damn near heavenly after being soaked. Just to deal with it for 4-5 more days, or so the local weather wizards say... And my much younger co-worker has taken to calling me "sempai" and I just keep telling him "you're not cute enough to call me that."

  18. Huh. Two of the four cats in the house, who normally have a hostile coexistence in the house, had a screaming rival slap-fight across a closed glass window just now. We are set to move to our own place on freekin' Halloween, and then there will just be two cats in each household.

  21. So do your want the full size Leatherman, the Leatherman micra [with scissors], the small pen knife or my heavy duty utility knife? GEM Addendum: Or do you need the "gadget" that is a flat piece of steel with a sharp edge, bottle opener, and several size hex openings that rides around in my wallet? [Plus the P-38 can opener]

  22. So here's another from the last year. I was unmotivated at first because the facial detail was a bit lacking but I like the way it turned out.

  23. In this case, I know the site owners better than the sales guy does - they already have our equipment at one site. They are quite reasonable, and I seriously doubt would ask me to come down over the holidays. The rush on the salesman's part is because doesn't get his commission check until 30-60 days after the install is complete, and he's been waiting on this particularly large commission check since at least June. I don't think he knows I know that. I'm not so sure I want him to know that I know that.

  24. The Saga of the Well continues; we're still waiting for the county to decide what they're permitting; a entirely brand new project, or an old project that just needs some new parts. I just want them to pick one, so that we can maybe have running water again before 2022! The engineer who's been plotting where the new well will go has been pretty proactive in our favor, thus far. If I knew who they were, I'd be happy to recommend them. ^^; ... and the chair manufacturers got back to me. I gave them the info they wanted, now I am back to waiting to see what happens. And being very VERY careful how I move this thing! Overall, it has not been a bad week, but I'd like a month or two of Nothing Going Wrong, because there's been a lot of Things Going Wrong the past couple of years, and we could all use a break from that. ^^;

  25. If I were a captain, I would be heading to a different port by now. Screw LA in the most fiendish of ways. In other news, I am so ready for the weekend and so not looking forward to it. It’ll be great to not have work, but then I have house work that needs done. Need to start repairing the holes in the ceiling and then get rid of the three baskets of apples from the backyard trees. Applesauce, apple pie preserves, and dried apples most likely.

  26. Yep. I just got to listen to the general manager go on a 5 minute rant about him. Yesterday the sales man told me a system I'm going to be installing in FL was close to shipping, and that I need to start making my travel plans. When I asked some follow up questions this morning that I need answered so I can plan, I got a phone call from the GM telling me the shipment is still at least a month out, as they're still waiting on parts to clear port in Los Angeles. My guess is that they'll be ready for the install right around Christmas time, and the sales man will be upset that I won't go over our Christmas holiday, especially since it will be my son's first leave home.

  27. I don't like pumpkins, thus no seeds. It's been years since we've carved pumpkins, but again, I don't like pumpkin, so no chance of eating or planting the seeds afterwards. Ah, it would be to experience a day as a warrior squirrel, riding is valiant steed into battle, slaying my enemies to my left & to my right & ending the day listening to classic rock, blaring out the speakers so everyone in the neighborhood can hear cause when I listen to AC/DC, everyone listens to AC/DC!!! I'll try, but current the spooky thing is just my backyard & all the leaves that have fallen the past few days. At least there is enough for the squirrels to hide/play in now.

  28. Don't know. Best guess is that they just don't have the budget for it (Practically everything that costs money has been stripped from the place over the years). It's a nice park but it is pretty run down.

  29. Oh, I get that one, too, more at home, though. Apparently, with all the different glues and epoxies, etc. I can fix any/everything.

  30. This one took a lot more time than i planned. 2.5 nights of work. The killer of it was all the layers with translucent paint. Keeping them thin to not get streaking was difficult. But i did it and it's done. Proud moment for me is the eye. Done!

  33. That's exactly why I like Milky Ways - none of those gross peanuts. Other than the dark chocolate stuff, it sounds like you and I could happily share assorted bags of candy.

  34. When I have a pumpkin, the chickens get the guts, including the seeds. Later, they get the pumpkin, too. I don't buy one until pretty late in the month.

  38. Not sitting around eating candy by myself might be a boost to my self-image, lol. Technically I'm not alone with Molly and Dixie always at hand for food, but the canine companions can't partake in the candy. One of my least favorite. It's like a Snickers bar without the peanuts, and that's just settling when you really want the Snickers. Now, Milky Way Dark is another story... And have you ever noticed that, when you buy an assorted bag of candy, the ratio breakdown always has the most of the one type that is your least favorite? Whoppers always dominate the Hershey's assortment (blah), Milky Ways in the Mars Co. bag,, and there are never enough Special Dark in the mini Hershey's bars bag. It's a conspiracy put on by Big Chocolate!

  40. For some magical logistics reason, these per released in Canada today..... Not sure if anywhere else has them yet. UK, got the Spider Droids and Fluttercraft last week, which we still don't have. And the US doesn't have any of that, or even the Wookiees, Yoda, Magnaguards or Super Tac. And they didn't release the Infantry Support Platform, which is the Clone's equivalent heavy for this release.... Weird. Ah well, I have new tanks, so Woot!

  41. Oh Blue Rose, that's one of the AGE system games from Green Ronin isn't it? Like strawhat I also felt I was running low on Pure Black, but I did remember to add both bottles to my cart. Also a 3rd bottle of gray primer just to be sure I wouldn't run out soon. I also got the Flesh Of The Damned paint set so my undead skin tones can be more than Vampiric Skin and Spectral White. And minis. Dreadmere mercenaries to round out my bandit-style minis, maggotcrown soldiers for evil mooks. Bones Devils, which holy crap so much assembly involved. And a bunch of neat things that fit the settings I like to run. Dark Watcher, Razormouth, Vorvorlaka, Ape Demon, Hordlings. Oh and a Bones Peryton because I didn't have one already. Stability is not that mini's strong point, first mini I've had to mount on a base because of it.

  42. So, funny thing, was in my local 99 cent store and found a bunch of thumb drives that look just like the ones elegoo supplies with the mars 2 pro printers:) Once I get stuff reorganized, ill try em out. What the heck, they were only 1.99 each:)
