  1. I painted my first kid hero from the Bones 5 core set this month. This is the model numbered 1070. The kid heroes were designed and sculpted by @Rainbow Sculptor and I’m grateful for her generously sharing concept art and detailed renders that helped me figure out how to approach it. I love the character design - an androgynous elf kid with wild hair, a tailored but tattered Matrix-esque long coat, and a broad bone sword. I imagine they come from a very proper moon elf family but rebelled and went barbarian. They wield a dragon bone sword and fight like an anime character - maybe that sword is a dagger stolen from a giant. A bit about the skin: I wanted to try painting them as a moon elf but wander sure how, so I tinkered around a lot with the skin recipe. A friend though my first attempt looked more undead/vampire than moon elf. I added a little of the Old West Rose to the midtone to warm it up just a little. I mixed it in a well palette and mixed back and forth a bit to get a good progression of value and hue from the dark bluish shadows, through violety grey midtone, up to a pale rosy highlight. Here are the final paint colors and skin recipe in the palette:

  2. This was my entry for the quarterly contest. I decided to paint him as though he was in a cave with maybe some luminescent crystals or mushrooms. I love the sculpt and will probably eventually get another to paint "normally". Or maybe not since I have hundreds of other minis to paint!

  3. This is Circe and friends from Bones 5. I looked up descriptions of Circe and she was described as “lustrous” and “the nymph with the lovely braids" and that she had hair like fiery rays. I tried to portray that in my painting. She is beautiful and I love her clothing. The little boars are so cute! Almost too cute!

  4. I think this may be one of the cutest minis I have ever painted. This doxy is by @Rainbow Sculptor and she is so cute! Look at that face. She wouldn't hurt anyone! I wanted to try and do a beaded coin purse. I think it came out ok. I painted this little lady all in one sitting, she was a joy! Maybe that should be her name! Haha!

  5. It's that time of year for Orcs...but I already did that. So it's time to get spooky instead! Here's my latest from Bones V (and recent promos) on that front. The Overgourd, since they demand an October paint job: Scarecrows: vampiresses of Ravenhome: Captain Barty Redd: And his Zombie Crew:

  6. What Happened Wednesday for October 27th: 939 – Æthelstan, first king of all England, died and was succeeded by his half-brother, Edmund I. 1275 – Traditional founding date of the city of Amsterdam. 1962 – Cuban Missile Crisis: By refusing to agree to the firing of a nuclear torpedo at a US warship, Vasily Arkhipov averted nuclear war.

  7. And here are some of my other works keeping in the spooky theme. Since he was metal and not Bones, Rotpatch went here. @MattParody was nice enough to include this Radukar the Wolf in our last trade box. Who doesn't love giant Cossack Vikings? a Death Tyrant from Nolzur's Some Spiders from Wargames Atlantic, also the most likely to hit a table soon for RoSD

  8. Presenting Hammer, a captain in the Masons Guild, from Steamforged Games now defunct Guild Ball range. He's a man dangerously obsessed with the idea of physical perfection. Another one I'm not too happy with, the casting wasn't great and I could never completely sort out all the mold-lines, which is why he sat unfinished for a few months. His face does look better in hand though, so that's one good thing. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

  9. @Jasper_the_2nd nailed it with his answer, at least for heroes in movies. But for the bad guy my favorite is always going to be Robert Englund. Plus, he killed Johnny Depp in the first movie and that just makes me smile every time.

  13. Boris Karloff. Iconic Frankenstein's Monster, voice of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and a man who was in Regina, Saskatchewan in his early years. There's a story of how a natural disaster sent him on his way to fame and fortune.

  14. I wish I lived in that neighborhood. I'd join in the decorating. Dang it, I was gonna post that! The reaction I had when I first heard Metallica on the classic rock station was, 'Cool!' Then, I remembered what station I was listening to. You kids git outta mah mosh pit!

  15. So one of my players asked if a friend of his could join up on the Saturday game (currently on hold), I said sure np. So he was going to ask him & he'll get back to me. So my home game may have life again. I told him it wouldn't be this week due to the table is full of junk & I didn't feel like cleaning it but next Saturday would work. He also ran into a person I've been wanting to ask if he'd join up, as he is probably the 1st person that I started gaming with at the store & I know cash can be a bit of a problem for him, so he doesn't show up at the store every week. I figured if he had the time, play some D&D for a few hours each week. He's a good player, older, but he knows how to play rpgs. He said he'd try to make it to the game store this week & talk with me.

  21. So, I was in the local pot shop (O Canada....) chatting with the girl who works there, and grooving with her choice in music, as Ozzy's "Crazy Train" came on and she laughed and said "I'm just about 30. I used to work at a place with like 19-20 year old kids, and they would comment that she plays the music their parents listened to. Then it dawned on me. I'm 40, I am their parents.... Good taste in music. and I got my over the counter sleepy time. Pretty girl too, well from the top of her nose up. One day I suppose I will get to see what the rest of her face looks like.

  23. Yah this one is mine as well, thou, Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula was good as well. I will admit, I didn't mind Kevin Bacon as a witless teen in F13th:

  25. Does Rod Serling count? He was the narrator for the Twilight Zone and part of what makes it so iconic. I watched a little feature on his biography the other day, and it totally explains his writing.

  27. The night itself doesn't bother me, but not being able to see what's underfoot can cause problems. That said my parents had a few dozen acres of timber on their property so I have been in the woods at night.

  28. That commericalization hasn't ruined it, it's actually enhanced it. The teal plastic pumpkin has backfired, though. It's supposed to mean that there are special allergy-sensitive treats at that house. Instead of being a beacon for hungry celiacs, my sister and the rest of the neighbourhood thinks they look pretty. Depends if I have my most loyal animal companions with me or not. I do great at home until I see someone's eyes reflected in the light coming towards me across a dark, empty field. The graveyard in town is Catholic and has a fence around it, so you can't get in except by appointment.

  31. Agreed! More skritches and treats for all inky feline overlords! Let's just not mention the stolen brushes, destroyed knitting and that one cat named after a Norse God that now deliberately stands in the wet pallette so I have to clean his paw

  32. In some respects, it’s easier to have no connection at all to pop culture. It’s pretty much a given that I’ve heard of no musical group, don’t know which football team won the Stanley Cup in the most recent World Series, and haven’t watched a TV show on regular TV since 1988. On top of that, I’m usually either playing with toy soldiers, or thinking about playing with toy soldiers, so I only feel old when my knees are creaking after a tango lesson.

  34. I am the worst at learning or remembering actor names. Sarah Michelle Geller She was in something scary with running and screaming and horror schtick before she landed the **Buffy role. Is this correct? I think I read this somewhere. So… SMG Hers is the only name in my memory banks, in that category, to pick from. **Does TV Buffy count as horror (?) genre. Pezler has out-answered me. That is a much better choice.

  35. Not all that long ago, an RPG YouTube show... kind of exploded because of such matters. (With the GM just plain not reading the players at all. Far Verona - Trigger Warning. Honestly, I blame the GM. *** Unconnected - in the after school game, this group got to deal with Agent Herringbone 'please call me Harry' Tweed. (No, it's not a bad pseudonym - his parents named him that. Poor Harry.) The Auld Grump
