  1. "Palaeo Diet - Eat or be Eaten" is a fun little game. Low miniature count, can be played solo if necessary and generally a hoot with others; especially when a player gets mauled by a beastie. Reaper's Black Bear Clan cavemen seem as if they were made expressly for the game - each member holds a weapon that is available in game to arm your hungry cavemen with. When I started painting this quartet, I looked around to see if I had any more miniatures that would work as extra cavemen, should more people want to play. What I found was an old Citadel barbarian lady from their Collector's series, curiously called "Big Mama". She seemed perfect as a second spear carrier, so I added her in to the project. From left to right we have Thug, Klunk, Ooga, Thunk and Ugh. Yes, mold lines. I still find even Bones Black a pig's ear to prep. "Werewolf?" "There wolf. Wait, that demon. Uh oh." Here is a solo pic of Ooga, just because I like her face. "Klunk, yoo idgit!"

  3. Today it was finally yucky enough outside to need to dry the trailers with fans at work. The boys pushed and pulled and even contemplated lifting the big yellow fan. They got it about halfway down the building, but the casters are seized and they finally gave up and walked off. I came along, said to the fan, "Come along, old girl" and easily pushed it down to the other end. They asked me how I did it, and I said "Magic words." (Actually, I just turned it so the wheels were going at a different angle.) I'm going to have to watch my back, they probably think I'm a witch.

  4. No; I am good at having emergencies without having to practice.

  5. Not something I'll consider, too many people, longest v trip, Melbourne to Devonport Haven't seen any, possibly because I've blocked them out, is possibly because I've only been to 3 stores since August...

  6. Sacrat, ready to defend his lair: I haven’t had this much fun painting a mini in a while! The only trouble I had was highlighting the purple robes. Blending white with purple didn’t quite give the look I wanted. I heard only afterward that I should try highlighting purple with pink — I’ll have to try that on my next mini.

  7. In that case, it would be the deployment right after 9/11. We were at sea for 92 days from leaving home port to pulling in to another port.

  8. I have seen very little in the way of Christmas decor anywhere. I have no idea if my local stores have little trees in a hundred sizes (in prior years I remember them having every size from miniature Christmas Village on up) because I have been going without or ordering in. My own tree is artificial, very small, Snoopy® approved, and needs to be placed in some new spot. It hasn’t moved from a year ago. I did spot a Christmas Dragon on Thursday the 2nd! His head and one wing are just visible from my front porch. Alas, no picture: I had to look across the street, past a house, and over some shrubbery to spot him. I found someone else’s picture of the same dragon. The wise guys of the internet have apparently named him Gary. No idea why. Gary the Christmas Dragon

  9. One more for the history books. The sword, despite boiling and reshaping is still bent, I just took a pic of it from the angle which hid the bend the best.

  10. Yes. Absolutely haunted. No, it was upstate New York, possibly near some of those properties in question. and the only reason I (grudgingly) moved to Texas was due to my job relocating here. I am one of 2 of my coworkers (out of 45, and not counting management) that moved with the company. I figured that with 40+ of us all competing for the same jobs in the same area, maybe it made sense to at least consider moving with the job. The company offering some fairly impressive dollar signs to entice me to move helped to seal the deal. I spent so much time in the Navy, this is just another change of duty station in my mind. One day, I'll eventually get to settle down somewhere. Hopefully.

  11. Egg nog hits the shelves in Canada for Thanksgiving, about the middle of October, and stays around until mid-January. When filming the X Files in Vancouver, the crew thought this was great, very atmospheric. Christmas village stuff is great, I always manage to find something for the wargaming table. As for the real thing this year, not many of them out and about yet, probably because of the flooding and landslides in BC, where the Christmas tree farms are. I don't do Christmas trees and ornaments. It takes me 5 minutes to put out the crèche and I'm done. I'd love to paint a Reaper nativity someday. My family teases me about being a Scrooge, but he was pretty awesome, he gave the Cratchetts a great party.

  12. I haven't seen that much of it yet, so not tired of it. While I did not see it personally, my brother told me he went into Home Depot before Halloween to pick something up and they already had their trees out. I have not set it up yet. Probably this weekend.

  13. I think the kids in Grump's after school game just had a throwaway scene that will turn out not to be a throwaway scene. They're in a Venice type place. The NPC that is talking to the vampires just said Kanpai! Why is an NPC in an Italy type place giving a Japanese toast?

  14. I am not a fan of the scale creep I have noticed in the USA bones minis. HOWEVER, this mini was an absolute joy to paint. So much character and personality. Despite my misgivings, I really enjoyed painting this mini and now she's ready for the table. I don't have a photo box so its hard to see her face, but I promise I painted her eyes.

  15. Yes, been to the Bahamas, to Honduras/Belize/Mexico, and to Alaska/BC Canada via cruise. Honestly, it is really the best and maybe only way to see the inner straights of AK. Cruises are a good way of sampling areas, but I get frustrated by the lack of actual immersion in the cultures/places you visit. I really want to go back to Belize and stay a few weeks sometime. Not tired of seeing it yet, but then I don't go shopping in physical stores much anymore, except for groceries and bird/deer food. We went and got the Christmas tree and put up all of our Advent and Christmas decorations last weekend to be ready for Advent.

  17. Love all of it. Thankfully I don't have to spend any time indoors in a retail setting listening to the same 10 songs over and over. As for the stores, not much that I've seen, but I also don't do much shopping in those big box stores anyway. No tree, but thinking about a wreath. We'll be out of town for the holiday itself.

  18. OK. I’ll bite, why did your ship go the Looooong way? (Osaka, Japan to Kuwait is 7800~ nm for the whole voyage, if going via Singapore then past India. Osaka just to Cape Horn alone is 9000+ nm.)

  19. Only enough, it hasn't been all that obtrusive in the stores this year. Except for Dollarama, of course, considering that they were stocking up on Christmas stuff back in August. No trees for me, though.

  21. Crap, that's today? I thought it was next week. I painted a little mousling bartender vignette for the RCL seasonal category and wanted to post it over on Discord on the day of. Thanks for the head's up. I would have been off by nearly a week otherwise. Now I just need to figure out what my wife did with it and get it photographed.

  22. I now can notice the trees. Before Thanksgiving (esp before Halloween) I stop my ears to the music and divert my eyes from decorations. We put up decorations late and keep them up longer. Not since I retired.

  23. The occasional fire drill at the office. And when I still worked up north, we had mandatory First Aid classes to refresh every two years. Last summer I had to call the firemen for what ultimately was a false alarm in our apartment building. Real heavy smoke with the smoke detectors and fire alarm going off. But just smoking oil in a tenants kitchen. Still, I followed the usual steps. Kept calm. 911. Make sure everyone is out. Wait for emergency workers to give the OK to go back inside. Aside from that. I have a first aid kit at home. Enough food and beverages drink for several days. Warm clothes. Etc. I... know how to survive without the internet or cell service.

  24. I was trying to think about this question seriously, but then I got stuck on the mental image of some guy with a stopwatch, a clipboard, and a golf visor yelling at his family that the house is on fire while they all look at him like he's insane. The dog brings him a ball because all the excitement makes him think it's playtime.

  25. Friday (yay!) trivia of historical happenings for December 3rd: 1904 – The Jovian (adjective form of Jupiter) moon Himalia was discovered by Charles Dillon Perrine at California's Lick Observatory. 1910 – Modern neon lighting was first demonstrated by Georges Claude at the Paris Motor Show. 1967 – At Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, a transplant team headed by Christiaan Barnard carried out the first human-to-human heart transplant.

  26. This guy was fun to paint. Nothing too fancy. I tried to keep the palette simple. This brings me to the end of my hellborn minis. I think I have painted all the ones I own. I guess it's time to buy more. 🙂

  27. I keep forgetting about property taxes, as I've been spoiled living in my condo in Florida for so long. I just paid the bill in November and it was around $800 for the year. I dug into one of the NY properties I was looking at, and taxes were around $1400 for the month. o___o Mystery solved! Thanks y'all! 😅

  32. Not at home, but we do at work. All the basic stuff like tornado and fire drills. But I also keep up on my CPR and boat safety training - which is kind of like practicing an emergency. Fun fact (or maybe not so fun if you live in my state) but I used to have a role in our FEMA disaster response organizational chart. It was a tiny role to be certain, but still a role nonetheless. In the event of some sort of hazardous or toxic material or waste release I was supposed to help analyze data on waste shipments to determine what was released and how bad it could be. Thankfully, I never had to do anything with that.

  38. Woot, panting twice in one week. Hopefully will continue to do some now that I've got things going. Decided to try out my new wet palette (which I bought months ago) so I did a little speeder bike brown on one of the STAPs. I need to actually look at a pic of them before doing more than that. And I did some skeleton horde contrast on 6 more specialists B1s (the ones on the right). Front 2 are Security Droids, the middle ae OOM-Series Battle Droids, the back two are Radiation Cannon B1s.

  40. Haven't been in many stores, not seeing a lot of decorations around town. Generally avoiding the big retail areas. Mostly in my neighborhood people don't bother. I have seen a few strings of lights up. We tested the living room window (didn't take lights down last year) and plugged them into the timer. Have not tested porch or garage lights. We have the most decorated house on the street. About to take down the Hallo-falls-giving stuff. I got a poinsettia last week. Next week would be a good time to get the tree out.
