  1. I needed some assorted carnivorous plants and these guys (from the Stoneskull expansion from Bones III) fit the bill. I tried to base them on real-life lilies, although the black "teeth" bring to mind dragonfruit. I'm reasonably happy with the green blending on these - for some reason, green is a colour I struggle to get right.

  2. This may be my best one yet. Leaving heavily into edge highlight and layering. I'm very happy with the results. As always, open to any feedback or advice.

  3. The last of my Pug Barkonians are now painted up Along with the Monk, Wizard and Ranger, I should now have enough Shoonies to last me for a while. I'm not normally one for Chibi style miniatures, but these guys really are a pleasure to paint - so much of a canvas to try and get some good detail. First up is the Axeman, who I figure is a grizzled, battle-scarred veteran. He's already taken a fairly severe blow to the head and I love the palsied tongue. Next is the fighter - I think I'm getting better with my steel NMM, And last is the Paladin - I like the way the pink, yellow and green work on this one.

  5. You know that story of Romeo and Juliet? How two lovers from feuding families found each other? It seems M.E.O.W. and WOOF might have something like this on their paws.. Where else did these two come from?

  6. Bit cruel but I am uploading video shorts of the mountain river and pines to torture my brother. Family tradition from 1951 to visit the New Mexico alpine area, and his family doesn’t like to go to the same place twice. So he relents and doesn’t come. I make him pay even more by just sitting and doing nothing on my vacation rather than running around with every hour planned out with something new to do. Exhausting. I am here on a porch overlooking a babbling river, winds whispering thru the pines, and birds all around singing. Very peaceful. When his night shift starts, I will send him the links. Think I will drop them in my glittery canine payback thread, too.

  7. If I could get ammunition I'd stick to my SMLE. Love those rifles. The main reason I'm looking at the MDT stock over a more traditional one is easy adjustability to fit me better. I'm pretty tall and find a lot of rifles have too short of stocks for me. Makes it awkward when using scopes. With this I should be able to get a perfect match for easier more accurate shooting. I don't have a range near me but owning over 3,000 acres of land means I have somewhere to shoot. The last few years coyotes have been a big problem for me, killing a lot of my calves. They got smart and stay out of range when they see my vehicles. This may double my effective range and let me get at them without knowing I'm there.

  10. I've had my PAL for ages but never used it for anything other than buying ammo. I have a bunch of old rifles and a couple shotguns that used to belong to older relatives. My go to gun for most of my life is an earlier 40s SMLE Mark III but I can't find ammo for it anywhere lately. So the wife is letting me buy a new rifle with still available ammunition. I'm about 90% settled on getting a Savage Axis II MDT. Accurate to 900 yards with decent ammunition.

  16. That makes perfect sense, the MDT stocks just always struck me as target focused so I didn't consider the other factors. I'm lucky in that a standard CZ stock fits me pretty well. I would love to have 3000 acres to play on. Maybe if I win the lottery one day...for the time being I'm limited to small calibre shooting (at least until we move and I'll actually be close enough to get to a range) What calibre do you use for coyotes? I'm guessing you're looking at something like a .308 for accuracy at that range?

  17. I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to those who recommended Turbo Dork's Spicy Meatball paint. It worked for the first project I needed it for. Reaper's Ruby red makes an excellent undercoat for it. Now, back to painting.

  18. I personally prefer more traditionally styled rifles, but if it shoots that well (and you're using it at a range), good choice.

  21. Yesterday was a tad too warm, today is... Well, we haven't gotten the promised rain, let alone thundershowers... And of course the sky was perfectly clear last night when I checked on it accidentally as I was closing the bedroom windows before passing out... Seems to be the case here though, cloudy (or raining) when you have energy, and perfectly clear as far as one can tell when you're tired...

  26. I'd love to get a PAL, but I'd only ever do shooting at the range, which then would require club fees every year, alongside storage and all that, and I'd rather not deal with all of that.

  27. Depends. If this is 'only works when naked' invisibility like the Invisible Man had, then I'm laying low until it wears off. But if I'm a fully clothed invisible person, with invisible pockets I can stuff things in, then I'm going on a crime spree.

  30. Still basking in the warm glow of completedness (oi! Fancy sea base! Entire port city! Several more ships to battle! Nononono.... I'm fine now) lol So I finished up the aft cabin this last week. I put down another layer of Vallejo dark yellow on the doors and the windows. The doors and parts of the windows got Contrast Dark Angels Red (so it matches the side-stripe). Then the gold and metallic finishes got a bit of white so they'd be brighter. I used Scale 75's Elven Gold and Emerald Alchemy to pick out the flourishes, nautili, mermaids, lanterns, etc. I used a bright white for the name plate on the rear, so when I finally chicken out over freehand, I can print something out that'll match the white printer paper I have... Then I varnished with Testors Dullcoat (rattlecan) which seems to work really nicely on Bones. And voila The finished ship! Staring down the Revenge! Sailing the high seas of adventure - my 6-year-old got to take her out on her maiden voyage with a crew from my Big Box of Baddies Here's a nice shot of the full playing area, with the staircases marked off, and both doors to the aft cabin shown on the middle deck: Coda I worked on this from May 11 until June 11, went quicker than I was expecting. Tracked hours, pretty crudely, and estimate it look about 41 hours of work. I still can't find the gunport hatches. Hahahaha. And the anchor ain't done. It's too big an awkward anyway, I'm fine leaving it in the box for now. No name yet inspires me... Nameplate remains TBD! A few more parting shots:

  31. Hmm, looks like rain. Weather is decent currently, not sunny but not gloomy overcast either. Temperature is perfect in the mid 70s F. But I see some rain/storm clouds in the distance. Might be here in a couple hours. I personally love this kind of weather. Comfortable, you think you might need to go do outside chores, but then the possible rain gives you an excuse to delay doing them.

  34. After some thought, I would do the ghost routine; i.e., move things around, make eerie noises, generally do stuff to convince folk that their place was haunted. Right now it is cool & cloudy. We have been having occasional showers...it normally starts to rain a bit when I go out for a smoke & stops once I am inside again.

It's in the news that Google has put an engineer on leave for claiming, and apparently demonstrating to at least one reporter, that Google's LaMDA Project AI has achieved sentience and acts like it is apparently circa 8 years old in its responses. Has Mycroft Holmes achieved actuality? I'd love to have access to that system for long enough to direct its attention to "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress". GEM
