  1. It's been a long time since I painted an LOTR mini, so I thought I'd paint 4. These were painted using coat d' arms paints and AP speed paints. Of note, after applying the speed paints I added a wash of Argax earthshade which waterproofed the speed paints and completely stopped the reactivation. This also happened when I painted my generic monster hunter from crooked dice. I dismissed it as a fluke with the intent to test it again on a different mini. Well, I tested it again on these guys and again, the reactivation issue was stopped dead in its tracks.

  2. Pulled a frame of honeycomb yesterday to free up space for the bees. It weighs 11 lbs! Thought you should know.

  3. Made some counters for the Lasting Tales miniature skirmish game. Bought some cheap beads from Amazon, double-taped them to index cards, done! The Reload counters says, not surprisingly, RELOAD, but took a few liberties with the Taunting counter (also printed out from the PDF rules text and glued that to index cards) and made counters for Adversaries who are affected by the Taunting! 😄 Taunting counter contains strong language not suitable for sensitive adults and only appropriate for Dwarves and children. Other counters may trigger flashbacks to bland platitudes of the 1980's.

  4. For SCIENCE! I was at the CT Ren Faire yesterday, and there was an booth selling honest to Hades Miniatures! (Most pewter booths sell minis along with their other stuff, this one is just minis...) Turnkey minis started out as a hobby for the dad and kids, and grew into a part time business... Pretty inexpensive for metal, at abot $2.80 per single figure... He had lots of "Villagers" sets of different races for $16, but the ORC set was too different to pass up.... His store site is currently down due to server issues, unfortunately... Nice Guy too... The Drow

  5. This is Logrim, from start to pretty well finished. There's a little clean up to do and the varnishing left, but that's it. He turned out okay. I was going to call him "TAAAAANK!!!" but I think maybe "Robert the Extraordinarily Ordinary Dwarf" may be a more apropos moniker. This is the final product:

  6. Finally assembled my Game Tank "Village" and "Wizard's Tower" dice towers. I'd only recommend them if you're up for sorting and sifting through hundreds of different small Lego parts. The Village tower I had to add some tiles (extras from the Wizard's Tower) to roll multiple dice. Rolls 3d6 and individual dice fine. The Wizard's Tower is far more complex, and its instructions should have had more building by subassemblies, rather than layer-by-layer. Wizard's Tower has a lot of multiples of the same part (eg. a 2-pip light grey brick) that these bricks should have been sorted into their own bags. Both internal baffles are minimal, but the Village design encourages you to roll the dice in at the top at an angle, and the Wizard's Tower has a pyramid-style base at the bottom that forces the dice to roll. The minifigs are not included and from some old OOP medieval set. It's available at retail for about the same price as KS backers paid ($20 and $50), albeit without SG's. The SG's are to create compatible minifigs (that are designed differently) and they're taking forever to make. I don't have dice towers, and understand to build them you end up spending a fair amount of money for a Lego dice tower, anyway.

  7. ha ha Just got done talking with a door to door salesperson. He was selling extermination services & since I didn't really wanna talk to him about it & I was in my garage, I told a white lie & said we already had service (tech no, but there is a service I'd rather use first). He saw my game/hobby table full of minis & asked about those & explained to him in various details about the miniature & gaming hobby. This included resin/fdm printing, Reaper, ReaperCon, etc etc. Funny I turned the tables on the salesperson & he saw a couple on the table he really liked. He wanted to buy one, but I told him, almost everything on my table was for sale as a physical miniature. He pointed to the (new) dwarf baker mini & I showed him where to get it at. So yeah, I may have pushed a sale for Reaper!!

  8. Dust... mostly dust. 20 years ago, comic books and various RPGs or related material. Today, I have no other growing collection aside from miniatures and paints (over 400 colours!). And calling them collections when most are hidden away in crates is being generous.

  10. Still trying to get the hang of the Vallejo Metal Colours. It's hard to see what you're painting, because they're so reflective. Very happy with the flowers, though, they add some nice colour to the mini. And I managed to paint the eyes under the helmet. So, yay, I guess! C&c very welcome!

  12. Injuries? Broken bones, surgeries... and to avoid more of those I seem to be acquiring more shoes for specialty tasks. Just bought a pair of roofing shoes so I can clean some gutters and do some house painting in areas where a ladder won't grant access. Fun things that I collect? I like perusing for hardback books at used book stores. Always wanted a home library with a high-back leather chair so I can sit there like I'm about to read a tale on Masterpiece Theater. You beat me to it. Though I'm doing much better at dispatching that collection.

  16. Anybody interested in a free ride in a helicopter flight for 4 people? I'm still looking for 2 more people to join us. We leave early Saturday morning from Myrtle Beach, SC and will fly to St. Augustine, Fl where we will have breakfast and then on to a yacht for lunch. Then we’ll do a flight along the coast to see Jacksonville, FL and return back to St Augustine for dinner and then fly back home. If interested please pm me.... Preferably someone with a helicopter and yacht, otherwise we can't go.

  17. I dyed my hair last week. It is now bright orange. I should have let the dye sit a little longer but overall I'm happy with it. I've also been very tired and Father's Day was very hard this year. I need to be packing. Our younger niece is coming into town again this week. Older niece and SIL are going on a school trip to Europe and their dad works a lot (sometimes 16+ hours a day) so she'll be better taken care of here. She'll be here for about 2 weeks.

  18. DVD's. Had a huge anime DVD collection that I mostly offloaded a few years ago, now (Thanks to a dirt cheap secondhand market) I'm slowly building up a second one of random movies.

  19. I seem to collect food. Blame it on the Church, blame it on my upbringing--I'm turning into my mother. She has 3 freezers full of heaven knows what. I only have one, but it is full of meat. Seriously, I have to consciously tell myself not to buy anymore meat when I go shopping. The pantry isn't as bad, I've been slowly eliminating stuff I no longer use much of, like pasta sauce. I cleaned out the baking cupboard and found eight or ten cake mixes, so I clearly have a problem. I used to be a big AFOL, but I lost interest in it. I think what happened was that I was planning on cultivating the joy of Lego I had as a kid in my nieflings, but they are far too spoiled and irresponsible to inherit my collection. I am considering selling it piecemeal on the local buy and sell. I've got to get rid of it; no one uses it and I could use some cash and the the guests have been complaining there is no closet in the guest room. I also have a substantial collection of Jurassic Park/World action figures. I have many of the original ones from the first film. I also have hundreds of dollars worth of the new ones. I don't collect paint variations, and if it's not a new sculpt I won't buy it. I also like the original humans a lot better than the Star Wars sized new ones. My collection is for playing with, so I don't have any limited edition figures, either.

  21. It's National Hike with a Geek day! While you're out there celebrating, keep an eye open for wildlife; you may be able to celebrate National American Eagle day as well. After all that hiking, you can get a nice, refreshing treat and celebrate National Vanilla Milkshake day to finish off your activities!

  22. Must be Monday as I have to declare myself to be a money launderer. Literally. I forgot to remove money from my back pocket before my laundry load, and when I went back to add fabric softener, I opened the lid to see a bunch of neatly folded floating currency. Considering it was over $100 in bills, I was suddenly quite glad that Canada went for the "plastic play money" we now use.

  23. Tried out the Goliath team on Thursday. They managed to deliver the package to the tank, but it failed to detonate with a roll of 3. My dice were off the whole game so this did not come as a surprise. Finally got some work on the Pioniers done yesterday. Grenade launcher (the guy with what looks like a big rifle lying down, the converted PzB-39 anti-tank rifles into GrB-39 grenade launchers), Strumpistole and Flamethrower are done, although I could still put some kit on the lying down guy. I started on 10 riflemen, but got interrupted to take a cat to the emergency vet (he'll be ok) and didn't get back to them. So one guy still needs arms and gun, and they all need heads and kit.

  25. I find myself desiring a higher resolution version of this, there are so very many interesting details that I feel like some are just too hard to see.... More like 3 branches of Texas Religion. Our government is far less organized.....

  26. Unconnected - I had never looked at Atlan Forge, before. It's a good thing that they don't have any Dark Angel proxies.... It's another where the $10 is less than the price of one of the bigger models in the release. The June release is $10, and includes this happy Space Woof - Alone, the dread is $19 - and I cannot say that it is overpriced. It's posable, and comes with a LOT of options. I also like that their factions include a mix of male and female models - unlike a certain other company that makes Space Woofs. The Auld Grump

  27. His expression could also be used for what state he lives in: Top: Idaho, Texas, Florida Bottom: Oregon, Washington, Colorado Funny thing is pic was taken at a Oregon Coast attraction in Newport, OR. It's a undersea gardens tour. The windows you see are the gift shop. The things you see here are decorations for the shop. Still a funny meme.

  29. Not sure. I lose time to an extent when I paint or back when I used to play more games and such, but it's so easy to just look at the time that I rarely get too far out of it.

  30. No, no - it really doesn't. My tea is just fine - boiled orange in a builder's boot, just as the gods intended. The Auld Grump - I have two ways of making tea - 'civilized' and 'I need this to etch glass'. It's not gross, it's just well used. (The glaze is crazed enough that the brown ain't never coming out, unless I use bleach. Hades does not approve of bleach.) The Auld Grump

  32. Too bad you're on the other side of the border. I have several interesting surplus rifles that my grandpa and uncle butchered. They shoot well enough but the stocks are atrocious and some of their "improvements" are pretty crude. The only ones I really want to keep is a Winchester 07 and sporterized Springfield 1903. Never sold the others because the resale value was low and never found anyone nearby who even wanted them for free..

  34. Civilised? My tea can topple civilisations! When I walk towards the mini kitchen at the office, other employees also heading there starts running in order to get there first... (My cup takes 4.5dL, and yeah, I fill it. That takes a little while on one of those coffee machines... ) Just remembered... I FORGOT TO HIDE MY CUP when I left the office on friday, to start on my not all that deserved 4week vacation... I just bet that the goody two shoes that is my colleague has already run it through the dishwasher. I'll have to bring a thermos with proper tea to the office the first week back, to prime it.

  40. I've used meshmixer for things like this but I'm getting better with Blender now so use it more often. Does this fit what you want? Not sure how big it is but resizing in your slicer is easy enough. It can be downloaded here https://www.mediafire.com/file/nisqaepmk0ovgvq/charhead.stl/file If it doesn't want to print as a single model I can upload the head and shield separately.

  41. This happens frequently when I paint 45min-2 hrs can vanish in an instant. but I havent gone this deep in a week or two. this morning I went for a 4 mile run, while listening to a Critical Role episode. 4 miles is my fav distance, neither too hard or too easy for me. - 14:07 per mile today. - I have a few scattered memories of the run, mostly I have visual memories of the D&D game world being described instead.
