  1. Hi All! So I had an idea and wanted to experiment with the armor. One thing lead to another. I ended up experimenting with metallic paints and I think this actually came out pretty cool. Let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for checking this out! Cheers! ~Z

  3. today's car wash drama We have a site that is co-located with a marijuana dispensary, and owned by the same people. Pretty sure the guy calling for tech support help today has been heavily sampling the dispensary product. To quote our dispatch: "I got a contact high just talking to the guy on the phone!"

  4. Here's something unexpected from my part, last Saturday I participated in a dragon-boat racing charity event with some of my coworkers. (I'm in the centre row, first one on the right with the open jacket 85 teams of 20 rowers, three 200m races spread over the day. Everyone had sore shoulders for two days, and we weren't the best synchronized team. Strong start, but lacking in the middle part of the race. And the weather was miserable! Unseasonably cold (max 13C/55F), rainy and windy. And because of some delays, we had to wait longer than expected before our turn came. Luckily, some of the team brought some insulated curtains and a propane heater to our team booth, otherwise we would've lost some participants to hypothermia (I mean, they would've went home before freezing more). The bosses catered our participation, so we had plenty of food, snacks and beverages (including micro-brewery beer) to go around. Only thing missing would've been hot coffee for the whole team (I brought my own in a thermos). My sister is still in disbelief that I even considered participating.

Part of my Shifting Sands Project https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/24/#comments ********************* Young, Beautiful but foremost...deadly. Kalista served in the Lion's, the elite guard of the High King himself, but when she refused his "attention" she found herself in the Arena. And there to the King's dismay, she not just survived, she won, over and over again and she became so populair that in the end the King had no choice than to set her free to please the crowd. These days Kalista is for hire as a mercenary, she leads caravans or nobles safely to their destination among other "jobs" ... Her reputation is often enough to secure a safe passage. And should some robber not know her? Well....what happens then is just adding to her reputation. There are rumours that Kalista even volunteers to fight in the Arena again but only for the right price. *************************

  8. So it seems like all I do lately is skip a bunch of pages, pop on and complain about my health......sorry about that. So anyway, this morning I woke up and the whole right side of my face wasn't working right. Half a day in Emerg. The good news, I didn't have a stroke. The bad news, Bell's palsy. Already on the recommended drugs, which are particularly effective if caught early, which is was (who the heck waits more that three days to see a doctor with the whole side of their face numb??). So very good chance it will eventually completely recover. In the mean time, I have to put drops in my right eye regularly to keep it from drying out and possibly getting permanently damaged, since me lower lid won't close. And I have to tape it shut with a pad every night to keep it shut while I sleep. Whee, fun. And I have to hold the right part of my lower lip up with a finger to drip my diet cola from a bottle, otherwise I dribble all over my shirt. Awesome. On the plus side, it is still socially acceptable to wear a mask, which covers up the fact half my mouth isn't working right. #brightside ๐Ÿ˜‰

Working on these: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/99265-intergalactic-journey-glitterwolf-paints-aliens-spacecraft-and-other-scifi-things/ I don't play the games. These Jackals are from Onepagerules (3D printed by me) their basing set comes with both square and round options. I used two of my own for this pic. What looks best? Square or Round? Please tell me.

  12. Still trying to get the hang of the Vallejo Metal Colours. It's hard to see what you're painting, because they're so reflective. Very happy with the flowers, though, they add some nice colour to the mini. And I managed to paint the eyes under the helmet. So, yay, I guess! C&c very welcome!

  13. This is Logrim, from start to pretty well finished. There's a little clean up to do and the varnishing left, but that's it. He turned out okay. I was going to call him "TAAAAANK!!!" but I think maybe "Robert the Extraordinarily Ordinary Dwarf" may be a more apropos moniker. This is the final product:

  21. The smell of food cooking. Various flavours can be included. Be it fresh bread, a hearty vegetable soup, bacon. All invoke pleasant memories of family gatherings. It's a shame my sense of smell has degraded so much in the past several years. Everything is much more bland now.

  22. Road Trip! Maybe. Looks like I'm going to be headed to Indianapolis IN and Charlotte NC to do some installs. Told the company I contract to that I'd like them to schedule them in conjunction with a planned trip my wife and I had already made to go to Kokomo IN to visit the glass factory there next month. If I can get them on board with the schedule, it means they'll pay for all my gas, plus we'll get to stop and see family in OH and KY. @Glitterwolf It's probably due to my early days of WFB and 40k, but personally I like everything on round bases these days, unless the minis are for a game that groups the figures together in rows/columns, in which case, I prefer square. YMMV.

  24. Collecting (J20th): I use to collect a ton of stuff, comics, gaming books & other stuff mentioned on here, but I lost interest in comics around 91, 92 (back when the SPECIAL EDITION!!!!!... covers were all the rage, or look Wolverine is guest starring this month, ummm I get his comic, why do I wanna read about him here). About the only comic series that survived the "Purge" was Bone. Funny how a simple black & white comic was the one that came out of it. Gaming book, more or less dwindled down to digital books & really just 1 system these days. Thou I have gotten Pathfinder & Starfinder, with just a couple of books for Pathfinder 2. I do collect Magic the Gathering cards, but not to play or to sell so I can retire later on, but I get the ones with squirrel artwork in them. Smell (J21th): I think my favorite smell is probably the smell of rain on concrete aka Petrichor. Just one smell if I'm outside & it rains & it comes up, I have just stop & take a deep inhale.

  25. If it brings a new person to our FLGS, more power to him for doing it. Before he left, he did ask about anther mini (halfling with a dagger, originally from the Dungeon Dweller line, now a BUSA figure (I think)) as well. I just told him to look up halfling on the site & we found it before leaving. I beat he'll order more then just the 2 figures. Sadly, he wouldn't be able to join my Weds night D&D game if he did, as I'm full with 7 people. Come to think about it, if a couple people show up that have been awol the last couple weeks, I'm not sure where I'm gonna sit them down. Normally, I'd just point them to the other D&D table as they need reliable players at that table, but these are regulars & they had to miss due to no fault of their own. I guess we shall see. Hmmm, this one is a tough one. normally I'd say round, but then again, I'm a D&D player that uses mini & I like the round uniformed look. Both of these guys do look good on both. If your gonna do your regular stuff with them, I'd say square, as I think that might fit your terrain/background better.

  29. It's been a long time since I painted a dragon. It might be a long time before I do another one. This took me nearly six months of painting nothing but scales. Once I had the scales done the rest of it was pretty quick. The galaxy effect on the wings is something that I learned from a Reapercon class and have wanted to do on dragon wings ever since. I'm sure it's not new, there are likely others out there, but it's the first time I've done it and I like how it turned out.

  30. Any idea what caused that? A few years back one of my colleagues got a tick bite, developed Bell's Palsy with no other symptoms, which then developed into a later stage Lyme disease. And that almost killed him. I'm asking because it wasn't initially diagnosed as being related to a tick bite. Instead it was considered an ideopathic issue and no treatment for Lyme disease was ever considered. I mean, it's probably not that as that seems really rare. But it may be worth asking.

  31. We had to slay the dragon part of the boat. Otherwise, it was like the one you see on the water behind us. A long canoe for twenty rowers, one steerer in the back, and one optional drum beater in front (in our case, the daughter of a coworker) Before the event, I expected the boats to be more festively decorated.

  35. COTTAGE - LANDSCAPE GARDENING Being a herbalist's cottage, the aim was always to have a densely packed well maintained garden. I started off by sketching out a rough design onto a piece of XPS foam and then using a ballpoint pen I engraved the brickwork that would become my footpath. I finished by texturing the path with a tinfoil ball. I used XPS foam to create a raised stone edge around the footpath, and then painted it up match the brickwork on the cottage. I used sculptamold to create strips of ploughed earth, where I intend to add my herbs at a later date, before coating the entire base with a layer of Vallejo earth texture (I plan to further colour it with pigments at a later stage). I also started work on a wattle fence, this was achieved by threading toothpicks through the internal holes of strips of corrugated cardboard. I then wove a 2mm hemp twine around the toothpicks to give a basket weave effect. These strips were then soaked in white glue to harden them, after which the cardboard and toohpicks were cut away and the fence panels painted. The next step is to add some fence posts and a gate. Static grassing is always my favourite part of a project, as it is the most transformative. For this project I wanted a contrast between the grass in the garden and grass in the surrounding area, as such I opted for a well maintained lawn. The lawn was a achieved using a 50/50 mix of 2mm spring and summer grasses. The patchy grass outiside the garden was achieved in the same way, excepted a added a few extra steps, layering longer 4mm winter and autumn grasses over the top. I have also fixed the roof fibres in place using watered down white glue, in order to prevent shedding. The downside is that the fibres have clumped together and have lost their fuzzy bushy effect. I have also started putting all of the flower and grass tufts that I made to use by making plant pots and planters. These were all 3D printed from designs I found on Thingyverse, I just shrunk them way down to the correct scale for this project.

  37. Sea Peoples royalty. The king, queen and Brave Ulysees sculpts. Ulysees was the first of the captains I did, and I had to repaint his clothes a few times to get the colour scheme to something I liked. I'm still not sure about his sheld, but he does stand out among the regular swords this way. I particularly enjoyed getting to paint the orange as a focus colour on the king and queen. I really like the transition between the king's leather scales and his skirt, which seems to glow. Reaper paints were used to layer the orange. They were wonderfully thin and smooth to work with--I will be getting some more, for sure! The queen has a lion pelt on her shoulder. I wanted to make sure her hair was a different colour from the lion, so I glazed it with some thinned Citadel contrast. Thinned contrast makes a great glaze to tie everything together; it's super concentrated so it will last forever this way. Most of the mooks have Reaper ginger cookie in their hair, it makes a lovely blond(e). These guys fell on the floor and had their swords bent when priming. I really liked the new angle, so I chalked it up to a Bob Ross "Happy Accident". I still have some chariots to paint, but I'm saving them for Wargods factions. I also realized I'm missing a driver--I will have to look for him, or else send a letter with my next order. This gal is also from Lucid Eye. I bought her to be a in my Witches coven, as Croc Games doesn't have Asar (human) witches. They come in a set of two identical models. I'm on the fence about her colour scheme. I don't hate it, but it isn't particularly eye-catching. I'm trying to decide on a scheme for my army of Isis, either blue and black with yellowy tan skin or fushia and green. I guess I'll test paint a few models and see what I like best.

  38. The swordsmen and -women of the Sea Peoples. The guy with the longspear and the unarmed fellow are from the chariot set. I did paint the driver's shield, I might glue it to his back yet. He will recieve a sculpted sling so he can have a "blowpipe" for Ghost Archipelego tribals. The long spearman will probably be a tribal guide. Stippling the shields to look like cowhide was lots of fun and not a technique I usually use. If you like these guys, Lucid Eye is having a very nice sale until the end of June.

  39. I dyed my hair last week. It is now bright orange. I should have let the dye sit a little longer but overall I'm happy with it. I've also been very tired and Father's Day was very hard this year. I need to be packing. Our younger niece is coming into town again this week. Older niece and SIL are going on a school trip to Europe and their dad works a lot (sometimes 16+ hours a day) so she'll be better taken care of here. She'll be here for about 2 weeks.

  40. Treasures that would largely be considered trash by most "real" people. Though I left a lot of my treasures in Texas when I moved, I continue to accumulate cool little bits that I KNOW will someday be the crowning touch to some piece or other that I create. I LOVE the smells of freshly baked bread, freshly brewed coffee, & newly mown grass.

  43. ha ha Just got done talking with a door to door salesperson. He was selling extermination services & since I didn't really wanna talk to him about it & I was in my garage, I told a white lie & said we already had service (tech no, but there is a service I'd rather use first). He saw my game/hobby table full of minis & asked about those & explained to him in various details about the miniature & gaming hobby. This included resin/fdm printing, Reaper, ReaperCon, etc etc. Funny I turned the tables on the salesperson & he saw a couple on the table he really liked. He wanted to buy one, but I told him, almost everything on my table was for sale as a physical miniature. He pointed to the (new) dwarf baker mini & I showed him where to get it at. So yeah, I may have pushed a sale for Reaper!!
