  1. I made it home guys! Left around 7 am with @Geoff Davis , @Dragoneye and @ragados (so much talent in that SUV sitting next to me) and arrived home around 10:30 pm. No major issues with the flights, but for hours my kidneys decided to work overtime while my bladder was still on vacation. Back to ReaperCon, I NEEDED THIS! The "family reunion with people you like" analogy is so appropriate. Meeting old friends, meeting others for the first time, missing those that couldn't make it. The classes, the games, the activities, the ceremony, the auction, @Thes Hunter's birthday... uhm... after hours consentful commemoration activity, so much food and drink, making myself known as the maple liquor and fudge guy. As physically exhausting as it was, this was totally worth it. I'm gonna have weird fantastic dreams tonight. I'll review my swag haul after a night's rest.

  2. Final pic of all my loots (less promotional cards). I will tally the financial damage later. Did get both the mousling and the Sophie. Oh, and should post the esteemed @Dr Bob’s accomplishment.

  4. I may post a WIP because I took a bunch of pix on the way, but this is how she ended up in time for ReaperCon 2022. She got renamed along the way, because she seemed overly perky and sunny in disposition for a demon hunter. I learned a ton painting her, and the judges at RC22 gave me a boatload of very helpful feedback in how to improve her. I'd appreciate any advice you all have to offer as well! She's definitely a milestone figure for me, but I was still amazed when they gave her a silver medal. Thanks for looking! -t

  5. Oh man, I am struggling to wake up still today. I've been working for 3 hours, and feel myself drifting away as the customers complain on the phone, and briefly answered one question with "when your customers go to the well, I mean website." Haha. I don't know what my mind was thinking about, maybe it's still in D&D mode, or planning a future diorama! Did I mention how much fun I had at the Con this year?? Meeting all of you was just awesome and I'm so glad that I got on these forums. You have such great energy and really know how to welcome someone to the group and make them feel comfortable. I hope to continue this new tradition for years to come! I feel like I've found my other family! I learned so much and have started planning my next entries! I still can't believe I made Bronze this year and honestly thought they were still calling the Certificates of Merit! Now I need some time to fill up my social battery again, but it was so worth it!!!! I can't wait to see y'all again!

  6. glad you finally got some sleep, sorry you didn’t sleep well at the con. 😈 always good to see you my friend. I hope to return to regular nightly paint sessions here in a couple months. glad to hear you’re home to your fam safe and sound, good seeing you again. Next year I will make every effort to have my entries done, leaving me time to finally play in one of your games. Woo hoo, glad everything worked out for you. It was great seeing you as always. and… @klarg1, @Cranky Dog there is a Carvana in Louisville!!! I was right to think I saw one all the time! It was in the middle of being built for a while but it opened just recently! no, as I was driving by, I did not notice what cars were being sold. 🤣 ——- to everyone else, (and I am not going to try to remember names, because I will invariably miss someone) it was great seeing you! It was a wonderful reminder of why I paint minis, why I love this community, and where I want my life to take me going forward. I can’t wait till next year, So I am going to make certain I get myself back to regular paint hangouts (or however the kids are doing it these days.)

  7. Except for today it was pretty much bog standard. Today was my first day volunteering as Train Crew at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. We had a 4-6-0 wheel arrangement steam locomotive pulling the train, which consisted of two open cars with roofs and a passenger car. I'm sore, achy, and from the way I feel I know tomorrow is going to be a day of my body protesting all of today's activities which included getting on and off of train cars some 50 times, mostly not at the station platform, a lot of walking, and talking to people [passengers from babes in arms to octogenarians], and generally having more fun and learning more stuff about the nuts and bolts operations of antique railroad equipment than any one person should be allowed to do in a single day. I've still got a grin on my face. GEM

  8. Had the obligatory night filled with ReaperCon dreams. Think me brain has officially filed away the information now. Guess the only thing left to do is paint for next year.

  9. That’s sad, and I do apologize. If you come next year and save your card, I can back issue you your ribbon, and prime you for ‘23. Thinking I might convince my wife to make me a hat with a pegasus on it. Big wings off the sides and a horse’s head off the front. Might make it easier. Course, I am also tempted to buy a bunch of cheap disguises from the Halloween stores too! So, final stats. Came home with 79 Out ribbons. Six given out in prior years means 15 people claimed to fill the card. I don’t keep track of the regular Bingo ribbons but I will need to reorder for next con. Wife now has 41 note pages, so that means that 59 people took a bingo card to play. Since I refill the bingo ribbons every other year, I think its safe to say that around 50 people or so get at least bingo. Thank you all for participating, both being on the cards and those who took a card to play. I always get a lot of comments that it’s a great way of meeting people at the convention, which is the true purpose. I hope that there are some new friends, or at least, so very friendly once a year acquaintances and that I get to have the opportunity to run it again next year for all of you all.

  10. For ReaperCon this year, I decided to paint the Catoblepas I sculpted for Bones V several years ago. This was the last figure I sculpted completely out of putty. I had started a painting WIP on this one, but in the end I got so busy leading up to the con. I just put my head down and got it done and forgot to chart the progress (sorry to those of you who were following that). Here is the final mini (sorry, these pictures don't quite capture the full depth and highlights, but they are pretty good): And the results: It won a gold medal in the Open division, Gold Sophie in Open, and a bronze large monster category. ☺️ Beyond that, Reaper Con was a blast this year. The vibe was super friendly and open. It was a fabulous time and I really had a lot of fun hanging with everyone. Sorry to anyone to whom I seemed less than cheerful to (DustyD especially); I was super tired on Saturday after my class and was struggling just to talk anymore. It will take a week for my voice to recover I think.

  11. I already have my (very first) diorama concept sketched out. It hit my brain while hanging out in the airport during my layover, and since I didn't have paper and couldn't find a store selling journals, I bought a postcard and doodled it onto the back of that. I had to capture the inspiration before it leaked away! Huzzah! --OneBoot 🙂

  14. Much has been said about the Very Serious photographs we took of the Very Serious Second Annual Reapercon Gummy Bear Painting Competition Well, here are the photos of the entries. Here are the winners 1st place David Diamonstone 2nd Drew Olds 3rd Heather O'Neal And everyone else: And we maybe had a couple NSFW entries as well This one is definitely NSFW- at least insomuch as a gummy can be. This one doesn't seem like a problem at first, but then you see what is on the Care Bear belly stamp Also- there were two gummies that accidentally got left in the convention hall when we got kicked out (sometime after midnight) But I went and found them the next morning and here they are. I didn't get pics with the nice three point lighting, but I'd rather they not be forgotten. It was great that we had gummy worms and two different brands of gummy bears (classic and Primaris). I do gotta say that there is something serene about painting the sublime atrocity that is the classic Haribo gummy bear face.

  15. Yeah, we might not be doing Sundays anymore. Unless I take Tuesday off. After four days of late nights, a 12 hour road trip is pretty harsh in one day. We realized when we were 20 minutes from home that if we had left Denton this morning early, we’d still have 7 hours of driving to do. We will have to see how next year goes. We will be officially empty nesters next year, with puppies (lol, 13 and 6 years old) and nobody to care for them. Sure, there’s doggie camp, and my mother might still want to come visit to take the grand-dogs, but considering she couldn’t make it this year because her pets couldn’t find a sitter and my step-father requires care, not sure she can come. Bringing them isn’t really an option, so I may be alone. Rika won’t be happy about that (she enjoys going and worries I would fall asleep driving). Have to see once the calendar thins.

  16. I heard that! It sucks we didn’t get to hang with you guys last night. Sunday night wind down is always my second favorite hang time. it was great to finally meet you and chaos scorpion. Hope you guys got home ok, and before you ran out of minis to paint. Keep me informed on what’s up with you’re next kickstarter! and before you wonder if a bot wrote this reply, despite all the vitriol, you might actually be a nice guy. Looking forward to seeing what ways you’ll find to insult me next. glad to hear you made it safe. It was nice being able to putting a face to the name, even though I didn’t get a chance to officially say hi in person. it seemed you always walked by when I was busy with something else, or you were busy chatting with someone else. 🤣

If your prep goes like mine did recently you will become extremely proficient at the "10 yard steeplechase". Here's hoping you get a preliminary report as good as mine was. GEM

  18. Sat down at home to work as Rika has a CT followup scan this morning, and was welcomed by 67 new emails. Pretty light. But then again, Friday was an off day as well as Monday. I technically only missed two days of work. All the emails took less than an hour to digest and file away. Left some reminders about what I should be doing this morning. Always helpful when work-focused Me tells vacation-addled Me what to do. I love him.

  19. "OneBoot" has appeared in many different forms over the years (though oddly enough, never in a D&D campaign). I always make her as close to being a kitty and/or rogue as possible. My CG halfling rogue, Etune', has appeared in multiple TTRPG games though, and cheerfully causes mischief every time lol. Huzzah! --OneBoot 🙂

  21. I have never done this. That is what I have used. However prefer is a strong word. Never done that either. The closest I have gotten to a DM screen built from scratch was to stand a ring binder up unfolded. One of those can function like a screen. Some ring binders have insert pockets on the exterior—I do not remember if I ever tried inserting anything in one on the outside as decoration or illustration. (This whole topic came up when @knarthex and I discussed screens during a hangouts session. It got saved away on my list of topics, and then passed on to @Glitterwolf when I ran out of August.) Haz a Sad. I saw the costume contest on the twitch.tv. The Bearded Bone Panda Bear was hilarious. Again… Haz a Sad. I got to the end of Picard. I can haz streaming TV! If "Sufficient Unto The Day is The Evil Thereof" then, yea. Sure. That.

  22. In Seattle. Next stop is home! In keeping with this year's unintended theme of "unexpectedly relying on the awesomeness of other people because of plan changes," a friend of mine said she can pick me up from the airport. I legit forgot to make arrangements ahead of time, since MrBoot is usually able to pick me up. He's out of town visiting family this weekend, and this fact didn't connect with the "location of our vehicle" fact in my sleep-deprived brain earlier lol. Huzzah! --OneBoot 🙂

  24. The final photo didn't look as good, so here's a pic of the miniature when it was almost completed. It's actually part of a 20-some batch of miniatures I picked up five or ten years ago. Needed five for a game of Lasting Tales, a miniature skirmish game. The original miniatures are more like regular humans with a muted purple color scheme, but the scenario called for Demon Warriors, so went with this. The lighting, btw, is an attachment from the Cobalt Keep "Paint Hilt Pro". You obviously can't see the hilt in the picture, but the light from the attachment is very good, for both painting and pictures!

  25. We were disappointed that we had to duck out of the auction early, but we did get away with enough time to get an emergency infusion at Buck-ees, repack again, drop off the car and disappear into the night. WarriorSlinky convinced us to blow most of our bucks at the sales table the day before, so by the time we the auction came around we were down to the few bucks we were able to make scrubbing floors, running errands and dancing for the guv' etc... We were thrilled at the hot auction competition, then realized we were heading into the boss fight with not much more than natural immunity. Suitably recalibrated, WarriorSlinky had his sights set on a Scale75 mini. Bidding commenced, stuttered a bit coming up to our limit, then tipped over. WarriorSlinky slumped back in his chair. Out of the sky, like a blue bolt of lightning, Super Thes swooped in, flicked away the bad guys and flew off with the mini in distress. Dropping from the sky in front of us, she gently slipped the model into the hands of an astonished WarriorSlinky. He grinned from ear-to-ear!

  27. Home Safe and back to Work. So after flight delay an hour plus at the gate to board, we sat on the plane for another hour while the plane's maintenance crew had to roundup a specific screw to hold on a maintenance panel. Flight itself was smooth. but landing 2 hours late meant having to wait over half an hour as the Philly ground crews unloaded the plane. Climbed into my own bed at just after 3 a.m. Which in turn made for a lazy day yesterday. Today was the first day of school for my sons. It will be interesting to see if this evening runs smooth.

  28. In video games, I always have the same name when possible. In TTRPGs, I prefer all of my characters to be different since it makes them all unique personalities.

  29. Never a player character for a pen and paper RPG. I've played descendants of characters (Rignak, son of Grignak who was my brother's character, who in turn played Maargh, son of Muurgh), but that about it. For PC games I have imported characters to run the entire Baldur's Gate story many times and my run-through of Geralt from the Witcher 2 into the Witcher 3.

  30. Video Games: No, I don't generally play computer RPGs. TTRPGs: I have sometimes used the same concept, even names, across games or campaigns. Every so often there's a concept that I want to transplant and see what happens. I have a couple characters that have appeared in three different settings.

  31. You cannot play the same character in different games. Different campaigns, yes. I do not. I play very similar characters in different games. When I design a character, I tend to have a high perception and some healing skill. I have been nicknamed "Sensor Suite" in some games.

  32. It was unexpectedly busy. We're moving my mother in law tomorrow (well, a moving service is moving her because I'll be hiking a pipeline cut all day and my wife is still banged up from a recent accident) so I dropped by her apartment to see if she needed any last minute help packing that her in home aide didn't get to. Turns out she fired her aide, that we pay for, last week claiming she was stealing from her. She then proceeded to overload about a half dozen boxes and say everything was packed. That wasn't even close to being all of her stuff packed. So I got to spend most of my holiday weekend packing up and cleaning an apartment. That woman lives like an animal and I was ready to throw her out on the street and let her try and make it on her own by the end of yesterday. And I found the missing jewelry she claims the aide stole. Am I looking forward to something? Yes, I'm looking forward to the day I no longer have to put up with her nonstop lies and abusive behavior. Don't really play any video games, so that's a no there. And I'm our group's forever DM (or forever Zod, my group refers to me as Zod), so don't have any PCs to speak of. But if I've got multiple campaigns going on in the same world then I've got no problem using the same NPCs in both. Case in point: I've got a little hacker guy called Bob Dobbs in a Shadowrunish (heavy on the ish) campaign I run. He's the worst. But he's always too valuable to the party to kill. Every campaign I've run in a Shadowrun universe Bob has shown up. In fact, we're getting ready to dive into that campaign again, and when last we saw their characters they had been kidnapped by a sentient, time traveling, dimension shifting, batcrap insane space ship for the second time. And this time around they're going to find out that it's not the multiverse. It's the Bobiverse! Every session they'll be facing off against another version of Bob (they have their Bob stashed in the ship somewhere). They don't know this yet and are going to hate finding out there are multiple Bobs... until they realize they can kill these Bobs with no negative repercussions to their plans. Bad news for them is that no matter how bad their Bob is, he's still the good one. Should be fun!

  33. I do not play D&D but I do play a lot of PC games. And yes I have used the same character build a lot in games like Skyrim/Oblivion/Daggerfall etc. Arealia the Rogue has been on many adventures.

  34. For RPGs where characters get rolled up or assigned stats usually each is different. I have not really ever created / recreated the same character under various different rules, such as: D&D > Runequest > AD&D > WFRP > Space 1889 > Traveller > GURPS It never occured to me to do that. For PC based video games I have done this. Colonel Purple has fought many, many, times across numerous worlds, moonlets, crystal spheres, and such.

  36. Given the length of a lot of people's ribbon trains this year, I'm seriously considering doing a themed binder clip in place of one of my ribbons next year. @CherylSundseth was very kind and gave me a hairclip and showed me how to roll up the ribbon train and clip it to keep it under control, and it was totally a game-changer. As fun as it is to have the thing flapping around while walking, it can really get in the way! Huzzah! --OneBoot 🙂

  40. First day back at work has been... ...annoying. First call was a customer wanting to know why he didn't have his deposits from his weekend business in his account yet. Um, can you say "holiday weekend"? When we pointed out that and the fact that the system did indeed send the transactions through over the weekend and that he needed to talk to his bank and his merchant services provider, he started ranting about that couldn't be the case because he never got his credit card settlement emails from the system. We found the system did send the emails, don't know why he didn't get them. It's been little stuff like that all day OR people with bigger problems who won't answer their phones when we call them back. Drive back from Denton yesterday was way too long and boring, especially that bit from Blackwell OK to Overland Park KS. I think I bought way too much stuff at ReaperCon - my pile of shame has definitely grown.

  41. Actual ReaperCon swag: People have seen the 2 Reaperboxes & Embassy Suites swag, so no need to show those. I did get with the order, since when I turned my vendor certificate in, they were out of the Goblin Hench"man" I went with the following instead: Also this month's freebie: I guess the I wanna get the new stuff, but don't really wanna gather it all up mood hit me when I got the SWAG Bundle. I'll go through it & decide what I really want out of it down the road. I do know the Hobby Holder (now x2) will go into a Box of Goodwill sometime. I did see the Dungeon Dweller dice set at the store & I'm a Chessex dice user/fan, but figured eh, we got the code for it, so I'll order it eventually. I like the colors for it. I almost didn't use my $20 VIP certificate as I thought it was a online code. I ended up getting with it: (Since I got rid of the metal one when this one came out, years ago, I just spaced getting it till now. Allot easier to assemble then the metal one, that's for sure) (Struggled to fined items I really wanted to spend this one, tbh. The Reaper Store had some great items, but nothing that said "BUY ME NOW!" I was kinda hoping they would have still had some Expansion Sets like last year, but either way, I got this. Tbh, I got it cause I wanted to see what the squirrel looked like in Siocast, as I have quite a few in metal, thanks to Boneyard shopping at ReaperCon (RIP).) (I ended up going like 10 bucks over the certificate, eh oh well) Some of my players did use dice they bought from the vendors & I was tempted to get one of them (the silicone sets from MDG(I think)) but didn't. I think I'll order them thru my FLGS (help them by ordering). Also, so many resin prints to be bought at RCon, but as I told everyone of them, that I feel guilty buying already printed resin stuff due to having a printer at home & they all understood too. There was a vendor that was offering original 3d resin prints, if I was going to get any of those, his would have been it. All I can think of is Texas something, or something Texas. I need to look at the vendor listing sometime. Other then racking up a sizeable bar tab each night & then getting kicked in the nuts by Lyft yesterday morning, I really didn't spend that much. Oh, I did do my first ever food delivery service order as I had a break between my 2 games on Saturday & I was very hungry, so Panda to the rescue. Also I did buy a a small notebook style character sheet (Warlock) for the kid player in my gaming groups here at home. He came to the Witchlight session with a tiny character "book" he made & said "in theory this was a good idea, but practical, no" 🙂 I figured he'd like it.

  42. Here's what I got at Reapercon: A big ol' pile of random 3D print stuff that failed QC. Even if it's all junk (it's not, I've started going through it), the number of bases I got make it worth the money I paid for it. Melt table rescues. An old Chaos chariot, random bits useful for conversions, 4 miniatures (ranger type, barbarian, scifi lady, and devil girl), a bunch of random GW Chaos bits (including 3 partial flesh hounds) that will be useful for my chaos army. A bunch of bits from Bombshell miniatures that failed QC. Most of these are just minor air bubbles and things that will be easy to fix with a little GS and some time. Dice from Reaper, the open set was given to me by a fellow con goer (if it was you, thanks again they served well in their first game on Saturday). T shirt from Southpaw. Some resin bases that were on a table with a 'free' sign next to them. Various 3D printed stuff from several different vendors. I'm not including standard Swag; that has been documented elsewhere by others.

  43. In general, no. I have recycled names, though. I do have one character that I used multiple times recently, however. He's a slightly different take on your standard wizard, and I keep re-using him because the campaigns always end prematurely. I want to actually play him through to retirement (or his death, if that's how the dice roll).

  47. I got home safely about two hours ago. I'm exhausted, but it was wonderful to see so many of you again. I'm already making plans for next year. The only problem along the way was a nail in my dad's tire. We enacted a temporary fix and got Lady Klarg to drive us home the rest of the way. (All of about 30 minutes extra travel time).

  48. Husband's birthday is in 3 days. I've already given him his presents and his card won't be here until Friday. At least he's happy with the presents. I only gave them to him because I got shipping boxes confused. I did give him the choice if he wanted to wait or not though. We are going out with his parents to lunch on Thursday to celebrate. His dad is going out of town to a high school reunion so dinner is out. After lunch we're going back to their house to pick up/open gifts and have cheesecake. I bought 3 different kinds of cake mix on our last pick-up order forgetting that he doesn't actually like cake that much. More for me! I guess. I was very tempted to start eating frosting from the jar thing last night but remembered that I have a tooth that hurts (this is totally unrelated to the surgery and my regular dentist's office won't book me an appointment until at least next Monday because it "could be a nerve healing" or something...🤬). I want to go visit my mom and do something for Husband and I's birthdays at the end of the month. I dunno what we're going to do (she wants me to give her ideas). Only the end of the month because we are super busy this month. We'd do it closer to my birthday but we're going to a concert I've been waiting for for 2 years at this point and my brother is like super adverse to going anywhere (because plague and general anxiety). So we'd have to basically quarantine after the concert which we can't really do because, again, appointments. I'm ready for it to be like the middle of October when things settle down some.
