  1. Hi all. I thought I'd post these recently-finished minis from "that other company". I quite like this work, I think it's some of my best. The cloaks were done with a drybrush of grey covered by a coat of blue ink but the drybrushing was kind of spotty. The red trim on the hoods I think turned out great though, I quite like the shading and highlighting around and between the metal studs. Since they are such twisty poses they're hard to photograph from only one angle so I took the detail shots from each side. Hope you enjoy and comments always welcome!

  2. These are some of my planned gifts for friends and family. I used the Gnome Guard minis from a kickstarter that's been sitting waiting to be painted. I think these are adorable. Also here's my color recipes

  3. Hello All, Here is a 30089 Bones USA "Dorn Ironspike, Dwarf Warrior" I completed recently. Thank you for looking.

  4. Shockingly, yes. The seller wrapped the item in 2 layers of bubble wrap & it was stuck in the larger area that wasn't smooshed. The item was the space galleon prepainted mini (a large size base but with a flight stand). Luckily Wizkids is using the thicker flight poles now or I think this one wouldn't have made it. Good thing, as I paid a bit of a premium for it.

  6. Every time a UK seller ships something to me via FedEx, it looks like they drop kicked it across the pond. I took a photo of the last box in case something was missing, as the whole side was torn. They were MDF models in sheets, so they were okay. I couldn't even take a photo of the box without the cat showing up to help. I'll never understand the fascination with Costco. I worked for them, twice. Once as a sample lady, and again in the distribution centre. Neither was a gratifying experience. The manager thought I wrote HOMO on a pallet, I was like, "That's ridiculous. They're shipping numbers from China, that's why it has a whole bunch of other numbers and letters behind it." My parents think they have to go there to get water, but half the time, they don't have any. They sell water in big jugs in the village. Dad goes for coffee two or three times a week in the village. Buy water in the village. They claim that they buy a whole cartful at once and that's why they need to go to Costco. Get it as you need it from the village, you're there almost every day between the two of you.

  7. Our grocery store has had a limit on how many distilled water jugs a family can buy. Drinking water has no limit. Not sure what is going on there. Bugs the wife because she needs to make a lot of nasal saline spray due to her surgery and they are often out of stock. Cheaper to make that than buying the saline of course. Apologies for anyone that got dizzy last night. Could be the 63° counterclockwise adjustment I put into the universe last night. But things are now aligned and we can start moving about easily.

  8. When mom was alive and I did much more mailling than painting, there were a few Christmases where I'd give a list of ring sizes and colors to her and let her surprise me. The one time I really remember she bought a dragon kit and customized the colors for herself then gave it to me for Christmas so I could make it for her for mother's day. For awhile, now, though, Christmas and birthday, both in December, have been "here's money, buy what you want." And anymore I already have bought it, between ghoulie bag season, black Friday/cyber Monday sales, and 12 days of reaper, so I'm just getting paid back money I spent.

  9. I dislike the whole . . . Our-game =only= Our-models Business Practice Nah I’ve never really done wishlists. There’s nobody in my family that would even have a clue about my hobbies. I think they’d make a hash of a wishlist.

  10. I got back into painting after a long hiatus (and long story) but the good news is 7-yr-old Reaper paint still works! So does Green Stuff, just barely. I thought I'd try shading metallics to reboot but then I wanted a crystal sword, so the sword is a start toward NMM and figuring out how the heck to make a sword look like Non-Crystalline Crystal heh. It looks better in person anyway. I did use a little Vallejo Chrome on the armor highs, but it's 98%(?) Reaper ❤️ I almost forgot to mention there's an actual quarter underneath all that globby green stuff weighing it down. Yeah next time I might go look for a washer. lol

  11. I can't remember making out a Christmas list since I was a boy...I got a cool bike I had asked for . Shopping for minis pre-internet was an entirely different animal.

  12. It's a pre-Christmas miracle!! They actually fixed the power jack! Good thing too, as I've got to move at least 10 pallets to even start tonight. Gotta love the worthless closing manager. Thou, some things don't change as the darn thing needs a charge already...sigh.

  13. Yes, but I’ve found I have to be embarrassingly specific. I mean, I pretty much send the family lists with links, model number and suggestions. Funny thing - sometimes the specificity backfires. In 2020 I put a set of adjustable dumbbells on my Xmas list. They should have been in the ~US$150 - 200 range. Really, a pretty high end gift, I get uncomfortable with expensive gifts. My aunt texted me, and said my mom was getting her help with the online only stuff. She asked - are the weights supposed to be $800? I couldn’t believe it, but the pandemic shortages made things nuts, and Amazon and the others kept the links intact, just with predatory resellers in the place. I told her NO! Fortunately, she actually got me the weights about 5 months later. They’d dropped down to the low side of my expected range by the time April rolled around. I guess people decided lifting weights wasnt that much fun after all…

  14. I do, but not every year. Usually it's things like brushes or other, less expensive, "equipment" (holders, brushes, soap, pallets, etc.). I will also be very careful to make sure I have the exact name, manufacturer, MSRP or otherwise appropriate price, and a store/website where said items can be purchased (Amazon third party sellers have been known to get a little out of line). I don't think that I've ever put minis on the list because I'm usually only looking for specific ones. I don't mind putting my time into finding specific things, but I'm not sending anyone out to spend hours/days looking for a particular mini.

  15. Here's my strategy: My family thinks I have "too many minis". I know, what heathens! Since I know I'm not getting minis, I ask for things I have to buy otherwise. Socks, a new sweatshirt, GF snacks... If I don't have to buy necessities, I can shuffle that money into buying fun things. Ergo: minis for Christmas!

  16. No. I have so much hobby/craft stuff now that my needs are usually specific and immediate. If I waited for someone to look at my wishlist it could be months or years before I got something from it. Our families aren't close, and we rarely exchange gifts.

  18. Hi folks! It's been a while since I last posted here. Here is a Reaper mini that I painted to be the main and final antagonist in a egyptian Frostgrave campaign inspired by The Thaw of the Lich Lord. The undead queen awaits in her temple of doooom!

  20. Today I learned: We almost always get at least 8 hours of daylight even on the shortest day of the year. I woke up and wondered where the sun was. Maybe it's so cold it's frozen beyond the horizon. I feel like an ancient shaman, I should sing and drum the sun awake. I had to look it up. Even on 21 and 22 December, we get 7 hours 50 minutes of daylight. The sun should be here about 8:30. More reliable than the bus, anyway.

  22. I have done really well this month. I think it was a combination of having to finish the secret Sophie and having just two minis left in the annual box. It became like a sprint to the finish line. But as things stand I just have to paint one terrain piece before the end of the month/year. buckyball

  23. No. Don't really do wishlists with folks. But my wife will typically make a run to our FLGS and surprise me with some weird minis and paint colors. Then she usually challenges me with painting those minis with the paints she got. And my sister, who introduced me to D&D many many years ago, will sometimes get me a miniature or two for Christmas. My dad has also gotten me some tools he thinks would work for the hobby. Sometimes they do (lab mixer, Dremel), sometimes they don't (soldering iron). But it's pretty cool that he puts the effort in to think about it. And I can usually find a non hobby related use for most everything he gets.

  26. I got a package from Reaper today, and it’s in pristine condition. 8 square corners. @Great Khan Artist errrrr, by “pond” do you mean the North Atlantic? ? That'd be quite the drop kick.

  27. Not really, no. If there is a release for something I play I might let me wife know in case she wants to get it for me, but that's about it. This year we went in on 20% off wargaming day, and I pointed out what I would pick up, and one of those things "magically" disappeared.......

  37. Yay the Trident works again, and rear z stepper isn't squealing anymore! Gotta love it when one tiny part is off ever so slightly. Happy with the tolerances being a lot tighter on my bed mesh too!

  38. Rear z stepper started to have this slight mechanical whirry grinding noise, so went through a few things today hoping I wouldn't have to tear things apart to relube or replace the linear rail... - regrease z rods (I had recently cleaned them, and figured I didn't get enough luve on them... Nope) - check tightness of the nut that the bed attaches onto at that point (needed a bit of loosening, but not cause) ... Okay, fine, one last thing before I resort to tearing half the printer apart to get to the linear rail... Figure I might as well do one of the things I've been meaning to since I had the calibration prints handy for the y gantry arms. Fiddle around for about fifteen minutes, get them where they're supposed to be, and then re-tightening the printed parts that hold the extrusion the rear stepper's linear rail rests on. ... Noise gone, motors all sound the same now, and my mesh bed variance has gone from 0.162-0.167mm when printing PLA to 0.066mm when cold. Yeah, I'll take that little side effect alongside the noise being gone, because now I have a very, very flat bed, and I can print things once I get the panels back on... I'm curious what the variance is for ABS now, but I'd rather get a shiny dragon printing instead of heatsoaking my printer for over an hour just to check on a curiosity.
