  1. I haven't been painting much in the last year, so I decided to do the Secret Sophie exchange this year to jump start painting again. With permission from the recipient here was the little motif I decided on: Of course after not painting for a year I decided to tackle OSL...with two light sources. I think I got a bit of it right. I could have pushed the values more, lighter lights, darker darks. I reversed the highlights on the banshee with the lights in the recesses. It has potential. 😕

  2. The Housekeeper from Crooked Dice's Island Priests set. I think it's based on a British TV show but not one I'm familiar with. A nice lady with a pot of tea. The sculpt came with a hand holding a mug, but--being a chump--I lost it. The Bits Box delivered a backup hand, though. A cozy home with all the modern conveniences. (Stove, fridge, and washer/dryer set are from Bombshell's galley and rec room set; table and chairs from Eureka.) Left the burner on? No, just got it good and hot for the soup. Guests are coming over for tea and gossip! Who has been up to what? and who's been seen with whom? you simply won't BELIEVE what Myrtle said to me the other day...etc. Tabletop advice: In your investigative RPGs, never discount the information-gathering power of curious homemakers! Featuring 50235, Edna, as the oldest and most cantankerous of the neighborhood gossips, a Pulp Figure detective with binoculars, and a young journalist from Cold War Minis.

  3. A nice clean sculpt from Crooked Dice's Fishfolk Stars. Grenouille here looks surly and pop-eyed, straight out of the Gilman Inn, but could pass for a full human with poor job satisfaction. And that is exactly what he is doing, here at the Hotel Metropole! I love his slouched posture. He will work for you but will not be servile, or even solicitous. Other personnel at the Hotel Metropole, most of whom we have seen elsewhere. The maids and footman are from Artizan, as is the barkeep. The chef, of course, is Reaper (77462). The head of housekeeping is also Crooked Dice, and will get her own post.

  4. 3D printed on my Elegoo Mars Design - The Wood Spirit is from Great Grimoire, the Base is from Asgard Miniatures. Part of my Children of the Night Project. 5. I hadn't been looking for these two, but when they popped up on a site selling discontinued minis I couldn't pass them up. Here's our knight in rumpled armor, Jack Spade. Reminds me of a line from a book by one of my favorite authors: "...wearing a suit the color of wet concrete, and the expression of a man who has just realized the wetness is piss." I'm pleased with getting the shadow on the door here. Go poking your nose in people's business, and some people hire a plug-ugly palooka to poke back! Fortunately, Jack has Dot Kruckenberg, his girl Friday and amanuensis, to keep him out of too much trouble. Not a dame for mixing it up, but she knows how to handle herself... and how to handle her revolver. Together they...well, not exactly fight crime. But they take steps towards justice, as much as two little people can in a crummy world like this. Coupla extra pics of Crime Not Paying. The only trouble is, Virtue don't have such deep pockets, neither. The motorbike cops are from RAFM Cthulhu, classic edition. BONUS: Noirification!

  6. I regret not putting something else in the pictures to show scale. It's a fairly large model, I think it sits on a 50mm base. It's a 3d printed model, not sure who makes it. It destroyed a couple of my brushes just trying to paint the spikes.

  7. These are a couple Mimics I've had hanging around forever. They were both gotten as swag at past Reapercons.I finally decided to get them painted; they're done to my usual tabletop standard. These are pretty nice pieces, and they painted up easily. Let me know what you think.

  8. I wanted to get at least 5 minis done before January's end. I managed 6. 😁 First up another of the orcs from my old Dark World board game. Much like the 2nd one I painted, this fourth one also suffered damage in the 29 years since I got him, losing his scimitar at some point. I used an axe from Armorcast to replace it. Maybe I should've cut the shaft a bit smaller but I wanted it to look like a two-handed axe he's just holding overhead. And then the Balor from the Nolzur line. Despite being a big boi, he still has that annoying WizKids thing where parts of him were damn near impossible to reach (there was a spot under his chin, no joke, took me 10 minutes to manage to reach and paint). Much like my Marilith mini, I pushed through finishing him because my girlfriend was really curious about how he'd turn out.

  9. All done on this one I think. The color scheme isn't conventional, but it works! And here he is in an action pose with the soon to be complete Mystic Knight:

  10. Primed this guy in 2019, then he sat on the shelf until a RCL group (Shelf of Deepest Shame) prompted me to pick him back up. I took another shot at NMM, and it’s slowly improving, but I was most pleased about getting a lighter hide/leather effect. I love this dude’s shield, the mounted body parts are gruesome and classic! I took a few shots against a white background - it’s interesting how it changes the look of the axe.

  11. Now that the competition is wrapped up, I can finally present this Ram Armour Pin-up I painted in the distant past (Well, 6 months ago), she's a plastic mini from Kingdom Death. Didn't win (Most of the entries were way out of my league), but I think she's one of my better paint-jobs, and I get a participation award too, so it's all good! As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

  13. I just pissed off a scammer - the only reason I answered the call is came from my best friend's area code. I had a few minutes, so I fired up fakenamegenerator.com and answered all of his questions from the data there. About 7 minutes into the call, we got disconnected - I thought he had figured out I was "scamming" him, but he called back, and I got to string him along for another 5 minutes, then he got pissed at me when the fake CC # I gave him didn't match the bank I said issued the card. Ah, the words "You're wasting my time" were sweet to hear....

  16. We're having a "file clean up day" at work today where everyone goes through their paperwork and gets rid of what they can and files everything else in the proper place. As such, everyone is required to be in the office today. Though I do come into the office on occasion it's usually early in the morning before most folks ever arrive. The rest of the time I either work from home or am out in the field. Now that I'm here at a normal time with all of my coworkers I'm realizing something. I have no idea who most of these people are.

  19. From GaleforceNine's D&D collector series. I knew this was a must have for me once I laid eyes on it. No idea who he is, but a stand out unique model. Just an awesome rotund man who looks like he would have no problem holding his own against any fighter. My imagination just set itself on fire with this NPC to be.

  21. This does not sound like a bad thing to me. I spent the first year and a half on a new program without meeting my coworkers. They do NOT look like their Skype photos nor how their voices formed profile images in my head. Same happens with YouTubers and Twitch I’ve found. Very rarely does someone look like they sound.

  24. Now to add in how and why Starbucks failed in Australia. I'd say they got 3 of the points on the alpaca right...or maybe only 2...and they forgot the death metal growls (or is that Black Metal screams) on the Alpacas That's because it's only coffee in reference to the 'genuine ground' part, just like International Mud... as to the second one, fleece is one reason, the second is because apparently they make good herd guards. not sure how that myth started. Same as the myth that Alpacas will spit at you...in my experience, if you get spat at by an Alpaca it's because you're in between it and the Aplaca it's actually spitting at.

  25. Australia has alpacas for the same reason they have sheep. Y'all imported critters for the wool. You didn't need to import death dealing monstrosities, those came free with the island. 4 hours ago, sumbloke said: Some people would object to classifying anything from Starbucks as "coffee"... So why do we have alpacas in Australia instead of llamas?

  31. We've discussed how we AREN'T going out on that day, but may go out for a nice dinner on the Wednesday. I'm planning to pop down to Laura Secord's and see what they have in for sugar free chocolates. I mean, every day is a sugar free chocolate day for my wife, but usually not Laura Secord. Hopefully the have the dark chocolate raspberry in....

  36. Interestingly, (for a Navy guy!), you currently live IN a fort. A no kidding, honest to God, US Army established fort. Fort Worth, was founded by a Major Arnold, CO of F Company, 2nd Dragoons, US Cavalry, in 1849 when he had a camp/outpost constructed on a bluff that overlooked the point where the Trinity River forks into two branches. The Stone Courthouse stands on the site of the old fort. The 2nd Dragoons still exist! …officially they are the US Army 2nd Cavalry Regiment and presently posted in Germany. The Fort was abandoned by the US Army in 1853 but it is now ( [python accent] …it got bigger! [/pythons] ) the 13th largest city in the US (Jacksonville is #12).

  37. Oh, they just won't tell you about the... *hrrrk!* ... We here at FoxCo are sorry to say the current model of fox has been replaced. Thankfully this one is a newer, happier, even more hyper model. Trust us mate, just.... Don't ask about them. Don't mess with them. And if they ask for cookies, just make sure they're ones that are safe for them to consume.

  38. I did OK this month. I didn't get my terrain piece started, but that was because it was too cold to use spray primer most days. I plan to paint Baba Yaga;s hut for this first quarter. I think I can finish it in the next two months, especially since I am ahead on other goals buckyball

  41. LMAO!!!!!!!!! It gets better. I can't fix the guys problem because the remote access module has suffered a fatal error and won't boot up properly. Probably because it wasn't plugged into a UPS/Battery backup. $420 for the remote access module. That could have paid for the last four years of battery backups. I don't have to wait long at all. I got to do it within an hour!

  42. A sizeable structure! This kit comes with several decals, some for a bank, some for a Carnegie library, plus others. I chose an old limestone look for it. The facade is suitably imposing. Plenty of room for conversions and signs on that architrave, too. Corner view: One side has two rows of windows, the other, a blank forbidding wall. I figured the building should look old enough to have some verdigris runoff from the mullions. It's a good scenic backdrop! The other side is a perfect canvas for some graffiti--will have to work on that. Versatile and well-made!

  43. Yes. We have reservations for a fancy Italian joint around here. For ten people. We don't celebrate V-day, but we do celebrate a close friend's birthday who was born the same day. Nice thing about that is that a lot of places have private rooms that are typically really pricey to reserve. They usually require you spend a set amount. And if you don't you pay the difference. But since everyone is going out with just their significant other, a lot of them are just sitting there empty. So you can often reserve them for no minimum bill. So we look forward to some super fancy dining without the super fancy price tag!
