This brute was plucked out of the Darkreach box while I was being inspired by a certain fungus related post apocalyptic television drama, however I couldn't quite make the sculpt work with the clicker colour scheme. There may be some hope for some of the other fungal inhabitants of Darkreach (as well as some of the Wiz Kids mushroom folk), so I went with a more routine colour scheme. I wanted to try a lit from below effect, reasoning that down in the depths of the earth, any light source is as likely to be coming from any direction as up, so I reversed my normal zenithal highlighting (nadiral?) and finished up with some subtle purplish OSL. Given the dynamic pose of the sculpt, I think this worked out ok - for once the effect looks better in the photos than in real life, particularly in the first shot.11 points

Another thing I brought home from Reapercon. Reasonably sure this is a creature from Final Fantasy (at least, something very much like this appeared as early as FF4 and nothing quite like it in FF1, but I don't know. 2 and 3 all that well). I picked it up because it would work as a Giant Anemone, a creature from the Dragonlance Monstrous Compendium (there's a pretty big underwater sequence in the original modules and that's probably why there are more aquatic creatures in there than you'd think). Main colors are amethyst purple, sorcerous most, runic glow, breast cancer awareness pink, and golden glow. Painted to a more or less tabletop standard, but the blending on the tentacles is something I'll have to do again the next time I paint a Mind Flayer.11 points

Really enjoyed painting up these two models. I tried to challenge myself on both of them. No washes on the Warrior model, since I'd been relying on them a lot. That one fell through, since I couldn't find any other way to dull down the metallics. The Matriarch model was my first attempt at fire and osl. I think the fire turned out well, but I don't think the position of the lighting of the osl was quite right.11 points

I was messing around with some blending and color contrasts. I watched a video by the one and only Dr. Faust (I know you're on these boards somewhere #myhero). It was a red beholder he painted and it got my creativity going. I've also had some of this uhu glue I haven't put to use yet and this looked like a good opportunity. I can happily say I'm very pleased with the results. Open to any feedback.8 points

I'm no professional chef but I can cook pretty well. I have tasted dishes in restaurants and after tasting that I could reproduce it at home after some trial and error. So I think an 8 would be reasonable without bragging too much. Favorite dish, I love Greek and Asian food a lot. But one of my favorites is a Risotto with mushrooms and Italian stewed beef.7 points

We went out for dinner last night with friends, Tapas style restaurant. Fun and good food. In lesser news our dishwasher leaks, we checked the rubbers etc, cleaned it all, still drips from the front bottom. Called the company who installed the kitchen and appliances and they will send someone over "soon" he suspect the machine "wandered" a bit causing it to misalign, causing the door to not completely close as it should. And later today we will attend a birthday, nephew turns 18 ( adult in our country). Going to sit through that one, not my favorite part of the family.7 points

Part 1: I have good DIY Skills, know Jujitsu, Fencing and a BS in Physics. Also I can read my "How Things Work Vol 1&2" and have a 1968 CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. Part 2: see parenthesis why I cannot answer this.5 points

This is maybe a dumb question, but: Are you supposed to sand 3D printed models before you paint them? I bought about a hundred dollars worth of stuff around a year ago, and it's come up in the painting queue. The seller removed the supports, but it has print lines. (Which is funny, because my giant beetles, from another seller, do not.) While were on the topic, how do I know before I purchase a mini if it will have print lines or not? The model in question only cost a few dollars and was a 5 minute paint job, so I'm not worried, but I would like to know what to do with the bigger pieces.4 points

Part 1: I know a lot about a lot of different things; first aid, shooting, wilderness survival, building/mechanical skills, etc. I'm a quick learner, so I can learn more about any of the above subjects from a more knowledgeable individual, and I'm pretty good at teaching the things I know to others. Part 2: No matter if it's caused by the greed and stupidity of corporations/politicians/people in a position of authority (nuclear war, pollution/climate change) or a natural cause (solar flare, plague) it's still going to come to down to people. I actually think that (MAYBE) an alien invasion might be what saves us. It might actually be what pulls us all together in order to survive. At least, I like to think so....4 points

I hate it when I accidentally snip of what I think is a support, only to later realise it’s a part of the model.4 points

I can, uh, get things done. Meaning I can turn off portions of my brain and power through unpleasant tasks... so long as it's not making me fear for my safety. I can plan and organize when necessary. But mostly I would likely be a strong back for others until I learned enough other skills. Chances are it will be nothing more complicated than people being people and not thinking. That's been sufficient so far.4 points

Well, the sun is finally trying to fight it's way out from the clouds; it's been gray, rainy and cold most of the day. I accomplished a lot of reading; it was an excellent day for it. I'm unsure of if I will paint later on or just keep reading.3 points

Well LadyC and g'niece Emma took the golfcart out for several runs yesterday, and had a lot of fun with it. Trying to re-organize the garage so we can store it in there along with my truck and LadyC's SUV. And the grill, shelving and reloading bench...3 points

I sand. I will not evoke the wrath of the more health conscious by mentioning how. Most of the other replies have filled in what I would say. However, before I had the resin printer, I used PLA to print. Those have pretty prominent layers. I found that slathering it with gesso then sanding down to the layers did a good job of being filler. Mind you, this was on a Stompy Robot of my own design, where I intentionally designed it with lots of flats for that exact purpose.3 points

Looks like it's time to install one of those sensor cameras that takes a picture of your license plate and sends you a ticket in the mail. Alternately, a sensor that activates a spike strip; $500 to $1000 for some new tires should hammer the point home nicely.3 points

1. I have modest survival skills, mostly learned from volunteering with my son's Boy Scout Troop. But I'm also a quick learner, and one of the first places I will loot (and I imagine I would be nearly alone in this) would be a library, to pick up some useful books on things like first aid, edible plants, etc. What I do have is people skills and good judgment, so I hope I will be helpful in getting people organized and keeping the peace between them. 2. Don't tell me to avoid politics; I teach politics, and occasionally a class on dystopia, so I think a lot about how politics can destroy civilization. And believe me, there are many, many ways, and they are not confined or even particularly concentrated in one ideological position; they are all over the place, politically speaking. The most likely collapse of civilization would be the aftermath of nuclear war, but it would almost certainly be human-caused in any case. I suppose we can't completely rule out alien invasion or zombie apocalypse, though.3 points

Skills? I don't have no stinking skills. Theoretical knowledge, sure. Skills, no. The collapse of civilization will be caused by people.3 points

I’m in the jack-of-all-trades camp, I could do some modest science and engineering related stuff, plus I’m pretty skilled in just building/making things work. I see a couple of types of social collapse, but I think all are likely ‘temporary.’ A more significantly lethal respiratory disease (I could easily imagine something that spread as well as COVID, but with 10x the mortality). The rapid collapse of social norms in the super dome after hurricane katrina tells us most everything we need to know about society in a time of scarcity. The only way a significant portion of the world sees that kind of devastation, unfortunately, would be nuclear conflict. Scary to consider. Climate change, however, is just going to be a very slow boat that takes us to the same place…3 points

1: Like @Inarah these days I'm inclined to let civ stay dead for a little bit. 2: Da Comrade! That being said, everyone's smart devices short out all at once, causing all the youtube stars to panic & take it out on civs. Ultimate Chaos ensues!!!3 points

Part1:- Nope, no skills here, I'd be completely useless! Part 2:- Probably humans not caring about the consequences of their actions like usual.3 points

Part 1: I grew up on a farm, so I'm fairly handy a lot of things that would be useful post civilization collapse. I'd also have to be pretty good at raiding drug stores to keep going, since you can't really plant any crops to grow diabetes meds..... Part 2: I'm going to go with direct hit from a massive solar flare. The sudden and near complete lose of satellites, communications, internet, the collapse of the overstessed power grids. But the auroras would be spectacular!3 points

If civilization collapses, you could do worse than having an epic level wild mage in your corner. As for the reason for the collapse, obviously it was due to the Glitter WarsTM.3 points

1. Right now I'm not feeling very inclined to rebuild our society. 2. Too many choices to decide. Probably a chain of cascading events caused by clueless, arrogant, greedy individuals.3 points

Part 1: I can hunt, have basic camping skills, some metalworking skills, animal husbandry, knowledge of food production and storage, some mechanical ability. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none. As the song said "a country boy can survive." Part 2: Kind of hard to skip politics on this one as the most likely scenario has always been human stupidity most likely stemming from our wannabe overlords. There's always been an overabundance of people with too much greed and influence with a lack of compassion and common sense. We're capable enough to survive almost any natural disaster if we work together. After the events of the last few years world wide I'm not so certain we can overcome our own lack of judgement and bizarre ideologies.3 points

Doesn't look like they have their D&L4 stuff up. Before this KS, Archon was pretty much terrain, except for the townsfolk NPC's and dragons. Pretty annoying how long some companies take to get stuff to retail, but Archon's a small company or something. Pick up the Grand Stronghold! Not only do you receive free shipping (shipping is up to $50 on the KS), but the Grand Stronghold would cost more to make if you tried making it through their previous KS once you throw in KS shipping. DaveC on Dakka: "A lot more than the €159 price there's at least 8 Castle sets (8.3 if each set has 6 regular walls and the stronghold has 50 - not sure how that works out as sprues have a set amount of pieces, they might be preclipped) @ €27 each retail (€216) before you add the roof, trims, battlements etc. At the KS price of €17 that would be €136 plus the extras.2 points

Nice on the Speedpaint 2.0. I do believe my pre-order has shipped or will ship from Gnomish Bazaar here in a couple of days. Shipping is done by when you preordered. I don't mind the wait, thou I have told myself getting this set, tells me that my ReaperCon games painting season is alive & kicking. I did get my $55 dollar pledge level for Shadowdark RPG Kickstarter this evening. Looking forward to downloading the pdfs & reading through it. This will be my Weds night alt gaming night for the month once the "Adventure League" adventure series we are running concludes. I figured give my players a bit of some old school gaming but still modern enough alternative.2 points
