  1. Just got a bit lost painting it. I haven't really painted dragons much after running the tyranny of dragons campaign a few years ago, so this was a nice change of pace.

  2. So. Wifey got an apicoectomy. Think upside down root canal through a 4mm hole drilled in the side of her jaw to reach the root. Four meds, one of which is a strong painkiller, stronger than when she had after coming home from her cancer surgery. So, she’s a bit loopy and has the remote. We’re watching Bluey. So far, the dad peed on his foot, washed it in the sink, and dried off with Bluey’s shirt. Then he farted with Bluey trapped with him in the bathroom. I can see the appeal of the show. There is a lot of humor that the adults can enjoy.

  6. Better be some potatoes made of gold makin those fries!! I won't use DD here, as I've seen allot of the people that do the delivering & they aren't what I'd call presentable workers...ugh. So, I'm thinkin about allowing the cleric of the one shot Halloween adventure the use of the pseudodragon he got as a travelling companion as a familiar for when we do the Holiday one shot (same characters for both this year). Has anyone else used a familiar type creature for a non-familiar using class? How did it go. For 5e, it's mainly the P-D shares it's magical resistance (aka advantage on spell saves) to it's master. Granted, the PD does need to survive this adventure & he's isn't mistreated by the cleric of course. I'm allowing him to run the little dragon, so he gets to roll it's initative & run him in combat when needed - mostly he is just using the Dodge action for him. Background - the cleric player has down-syndrome, but plays that game within his capabilities + he's been one my longest running players coming to my table almost from the beginning (2018 I think?).

  9. If you like Star Trek, chances are good you'll like the show. It is very much a love letter to the franchise.

  10. It's also well suited to the children's level of understanding and it handles some topics extremely well. For example there's one episode with a deaf character. They don't make a big deal about the character being dead, he (I think) just happens to be using sign language with his mother, who is speaking as well as signing. And they made it proper Auslan, which apparently took several script rewrites due to the characters only having four fingers on each hand. Another example is one episode when they're camping, Bluey makes friends with someone who doesn't even speak the same language.

  12. My box of unpainted minis is getting quite bare. I still have plenty to paint, but here are more for the history books. PS, sorry these pics are overexposed.

  15. Spicy snack foods. Especially the crunchy kinds. In the old days, I would jump on many RPGs, game accessories, or maybe books that might interest me. But I've got so few games running and such a backlog and little storage room that my common sense kicks in, preventing me from buying more stuff.

  16. Not yet, fingers crossed... I sometimes have a hard time finding a color scheme, but I'm not sure I gravitate towards a scheme though I do paint a lot of models that kind of... end up with a lot of blacks/dark greys.

  17. Field Guides to anything natural. I just bought one on types of Bonsai and one on bats of Eastern NA. I just can't pass up a good field guide style book. These are typically my souvenirs that I get on any trip I take. I love pouring over them for weeks afterward.

  18. I'll playfully say I try to have a tiny bit of orange on everything I paint, although that "tradition" isn't one I really hold to much as of late... For the sillier answer, if argue it totally isn't Quinacridone Magenta or Titanium Buff (or ProAcryl Ivory) but given how fast those bottles have been going down... They're just far too useful to not use, so, uh, yeah.

  19. I kind of drift between. There are absolutely colors that I like to use, but I wouldn't say that I find myself overly reliant on them. For me, the first rule is to try to "make sense". Meaning that the colors should be "reasonable" for the figure. Then I'll do a quick evaluation of how often I've used a particular set of colors, and if there are acceptable substitutes for colors that I've used a lot of recently. It's at this point that I should clarify that "reasonable" need not be "realistic." It just has to work for the figure. Although I do like cooler colors, I don't think that I default to them.

  20. I don't think I've ever been stuck in a color scheme, but I do tend to use the same colors allot. Say if I use #1 brown, #6 green & #10 white. I'll tend to pick those same colors up for other miniatures as well.

  21. I like purple, but I don't think I gravitate towards any particular color too much. I'll pull several colors for the month's rcl and end up using them on more than one mini just to use up leftovers on the palette, but the colors change each month aside from some of the blacks and whites.

  23. Storage containers and storage shelving. I like to be very organized. Most do get used to sort hobby supplies, but I use them to sort paperwork/bills/taxes for each year. Things get bagged and tagged at my house.

  26. New pens. That is: Some writing or drawing tool I’ve never seen before. Half Price Books used to have these sketch books that were just $2. Claimed they were made of recycled material. I’d usually grab one if I went in there even if I didn’t buy a book. There was a particular type of mechanical pencil I bought many packages of because I really like it but was sure they’d cease making it. I might have stocked up.

  28. If it were me I would do affinity and loyalty checks [and any other check that seemed like it would help develop this story line] for the PD to determine how closely bonded it is to the Character. After the dice tell you their part of the story you as the DM put on your storytellers hat and explain to the party what has happened and how it will affect the Cleric's gameplay. You mentioned Downs Syndrome, this pet/familiar could be of real benefit to this player throughout the game play if the bonding is strong. Interesting scenario, all and all. GEM Addendum: "Potatoes made of Gold" just caused a neuron to lightbulb. What if a game has a tuber that is capable of concentrating specific metallic salts found in the soil it is growing in? Gives a whole new meaning to the name Yukon Gold.

  29. I seem to be gravitating that way. Lately it seems everything I paint has purple in it. The Tethru have purple robes, the undead too and the Blue Horrors I just finished have purple shading and tongues. Everything has faction colours, but I use the same Egyptian gold scheme on most of them to tie them together.

  31. New-to-me flours, grains, and spices. Sometimes this works out well (Millet! Not just for birds! Urfa chile pepper! So good! Kamut=love!), and sometimes not (amaranth and quinoa flours make things taste like grass. Not even tasty grass).

  33. Have you seen GF9's "Away Missions"? They're pretty stylized (and a bit to the chibi-side). I'm not sure how many sets are out, and I think they're supposed to be accessories to a board game. Modiphius does have stls for Star Trek (which you've probably already seen, but on the off chance that you haven't...).

  35. I'm a little confused atm. Juggy felt painfully slow, and I'm not entirely happy with how he turned out. But, I started on Daredevil, and he went 3x as fast, and I'm happy with how he turned out, and it's basically the same exact color scheme! Not sure why I had so many issues with Jugg. Anyhow, Daredevil is done, and up next are Kingpin, Punisher, then Luke Cage.

  36. On a normal week, I would say 3-4 hours more than my scheduled/paid 37.5. These days I'm working 16 hour days many days of the week and 8 hour shifts overnight on weekends so.. way too many? I spend roughly half my week in meetings. I'm involved in several large scale (full data center migrations) so there is a LOT of coordination, planning, pleading... Normally I would sleep an extra hour. This year I was working and we got to watch the clock go from 1:59 to 1:00... it was a little heartbreaking. Worked 9 hours for an 8 hour shift.

  37. I probably gravitate to blues, but normally I just look at my paints and think "That is an interesting color" and go from there. Since blue is my favorite color it is chosen more often.

  38. These are also the colors I get when I ask my 50 something year old wife to pick out paints for me.

  39. Sometimes I will be unable to decide what color I want, and that usually ends up with the mini set aside to work on some other time. But I would not say that is really getting "stuck"; usually it means I'm not all that excited about painting that one. I tend to use too many browns, but I figure browns ought to be common on realitic medieval fantasy miniatures (what an odd phrase that is!). I have some favorite colors I use too often, but I do try to have some color variety. That sounds like a great idea. My wife would not be interested (she has no interest in this hobby at all, sadly), but I could convince my oldest daughter to go to the hobby store and pick out some things. Or the four-year-olds, but that would mostly mean lots more pink and purple paints...

  46. Juggernaut is done. Was difficult getting the lighting to show details, sorry for the bad representation. Eyes were extremely tough to get in to paint, even my super fine brushes were causing problems covering too much. Next up: Daredevil, Kingpin, and Punisher.

  47. I asked because I seemed to have found myself drawn to and painting a lot of minis in a green/brown theme lately...even when I try to go another direction, something changes my mind and I wind up back at greens. Weird.
