  1. I almost forgot how much fun it was to raise, I mean paint the dead.

  2. Nolzurs are sturdy but these were also a bit clunky and needed more prep work. But for tabletop figs that were on sale…

  5. For some reason I had the two little guys down as Fungoids, but the taller one as the Fungal Handmaiden. This may have been the way they were presented in the Darkreach Expansion for Bones IV, but since you can now buy al three as a set, I thought I might refer to them for ease of finding. I've been avoiding painting the first two of these for a bit. They're nice clean sculpts, but the style doesn't really fit with the more "realistic" look of the other fungal figures. Not a really isnpiring paint job on them, but I just wanted to get them out of the queue. They would suit Leshies for minis, but they're a bit on the large size. I think I like this guy best of the first two. The glow effect doesn't really work with the pale colouration of the fungal flesh, but the eyes look suitable cute. I think if I were ever to use this guy in a game, he would be the apparently harmless myconid who attaches itself to the party and annoys them until they find out it's really just trying to help them find their future destiny as compost. I'm happy with the cap on him. At the other end of the spectrum is the "Fungal Handmaiden". I'm really happy with how the lighting effect worked out on this. It was inspired by one of the images I found for the Fungal Queen but I wasn't brave enough to try it on my version. I've never taken a formal class in osl techniques, but two of the tips I've picked up from being on this forum is 1) Start Dark and 2) You can never take up the highlights too much. . Whoops - didn't let the glue on the tufts dry enough. Damn you summer humidity! I tried her against a dark background - not convinced it's made the pics better: I'm really happy with how she turned out - I really only used four colours for the main body: Over a white base I used Shyish Purple, then progressive highlights in an old pot of P3 Iosan Green I am still using, followed by Moot Green and Vallejo Yellow Green. I'm now keen to try out different shades on other models (I'm imagining you in silvery blue, Sea Dragon . . .)

  6. I think this wraps up all of my Brinewind undead. Bit of a mixed bag, painting-wise. Firstly, the Skeletal Captain . . . Hard to get a good angle on him. Next up, the Ghost Pirate Captain . . . Continuing my love-hate relationship with translucents. I like the concept of them, and always approach them with what I want to turn up, but they never quite meet expectations. With this mini I wanted to see how I would go with a blue glow rather than my usual green tint. I also wanted to add a few other tints to reflect a faint indication of the colours he was when he was alive. He turn out a little dim for my liking, but every time I tried to lighten it with a white wash I lost more of the underlying tints. Next up is the Daughter of Barty. Somehow I missed her when I painted the other three. I couldn't quite replicate the happy accident I made with the skin tone for them, so she looks a little bluer. The colour still tones well with the purple hagfish though.

  7. We are playing 007 RPG tonight. The only game my stepdad liked, back before I was even born. Mum pegged Grump as someone that would know the game and would run it. How did Mum know that?! We are bringing George into the fold.

  9. Yeah, some of those birds or small animals that help with housework would be real handy. I'll even sing as they work. Or those fairies that come at night and clean your house in exchange for a dish of milk or a small child. I'd like some of those.

  16. Well, my first instinct was "dragon," but dragons are an intelligent species and thus I will exclude them from the list of potentials (despite being a potential "companion"), and limit my ponderings to less sophisticated creatures. Besides, I start thinking about space requirements and...uhhh...clean-up. That kind of rules out very large creatures. And while the fantastic holds some allure, I can't imagine any critter really topping a good dog or cat. I'm pretty happy with one of those.

  19. Something that I would only need to provide minimal care to, and if going into the imaginary, something that could help with housework. The title character of the manga Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan comes to mind.

  22. I think I'm good with just managing your standard cats and dogs without trying to bring fantasy issues into it. I mean, keeping the cats healthy is expensive enough. Just imagine the vet bills when your dragon eats some of the neighborhood kids and then can't pass a backpack or bicycle or whatever else they ate along with the children. Nope, that's just too much hassle. The Traveler RPG. An old friend reached out late last year and asked if we wanted to give it a try. So far it's been pretty fun.

  24. I had to look it up as I played it at the FLGS on a board game night and didn't catch the name at the time. Deep Rock Galactic. Fun co-op game with Dwarf miners with great big guns.... Earlier that same night I played Hamlet: The Village Building Game, which was also very fun.

  27. Wouldn't have stopped any nefarious sorts to begin with, so the worst has already happened. Been plugging away at designing a space station flight stand today. Because engineer, had to figure out what tip over angles I'd be comfortable with which drives height off the table top. Now to figure out if I'm going to be able to loft a b-spline in FreeCAD and get the shapes I want. The debate for later is if I put it up on MMF, if I charge since it's untested, and if I run the print test myself since it's an 8 hour resin job. Took the week off so I'll still be able to hobby for quite a bit. Did get some eyes painted. Well, the whites at least. Motivational gears just aren't meshing yet on painting.

  29. I already have one that qualifies under real & imaginary. I have Marty The Mouser. Marty is a real enough little cat, but the World he lives in is most definitely a marvelous thing of his own imagination.

  30. Real pet: one or several cats. I can foresee this once I retire and am home more often. Imaginary: a lapdog sized Falkor. Furry, pettable and magical! There's a lot of belly on them to rub.

Impatiently waiting for an email saying "hey, come pick up this box" is the core hobbying plan at the moment. Tonight? No plans just yet other than chicken tacos. It's a Titan A. E. Reference.

  36. That sounds like a Buglipsian phrase. I actually did a tiny bit of hobbling yesterday. Not really enough to post a thread about it. Would a thread called Pendrake’s Workbench or some such be allowable? A place to post about it if I did something small. The tiny thing I did was dry fit the pieces to 44011. Two of them didn’t fit very well, one being the left arm. Then I started whittling on the peg for the left arm until I got it to slide into place.

  40. Thanks for the tip! Only problem is I tend not to know what colour I'm going to paint stuff until I paint it! Only 3 days in and I've already missed a day, must do better:- Did his inner jacket (Hexed Lichen > Black Wash > Hexed Lichen > 1:2 Hexed Lichen/Blue Violet), his shirt (1:1 Stone Grey/Misty Grey > Black Wash > 1:1 Stony Grey/Misty Grey > 1:1:1 Stony Grey/Misty Grey/Linen White) and his trousers (Stone Grey > Black Wash > Stone Grey). I can start on all his pouches next. I tidied up the Oily Steel handlebars, did some Bronze connectors, Scarlett Red rocket boost buttons (I'm not sure what these actually are), Pure Black hand grips and Icy Blue Mirrors. Dangly bits next.
