I've been saving this one for reapercon-mas. It's from @Clearman.

    Thorsday, August 30:

What non-hobby related trophies do you have?

No trophies per se, but I did come out of Academic Decathlon with a fistful of gold medals.

Tuesday, August 29: What is something you definitely prefer to do the “new-fangled” way?

There are so many things I love about living in the future. I think I'll have to go with "learning". From googling things on my phone, watching YouTube videos, listening to podcasts, to reading tumblr broccoliposts, learning is so much more fun the new-fangled ways.

  3. I've binged a lot of shows but never had one I could not put down the way I could not put down "The Good Place (Season 2)". That show is so forking good. I recently finished Person of Interest, so in addition to the Good Place, I've binged Lost in Space, Disenchantment, and The Hollow. The Hollow was interesting but probably not sequel material. The other two I'm kind of on the fence about. I enjoyed them but am getting pretty sick of shows where all the characters (or in LiS's case, all the adults) are just awful, terrible human beings.

Code. IDLE is the most complex IDE I'm willing to use. Usually I'll just use nano.

My town uses a Civil War-era ballot box to collect ballots. It goes ka-chunk-ding when pull the lever.

First question: Which of my 21st Century Social Mores will get me killed?

I picked up Space Base at the last New England Paint Day and finally got it to the table.  Everyone enjoyed it but one person did ask what the narrative was.  It is a good engine building game but the theme doesn't quite fit it.  I was happy that I got to win with the "I WIN" card.

Have you played Russian Railroads? It's clearly a Skyscraper building game with the wrong theming.

Saturday, August 18: What is the most awkward thing that happens to you on a daily basis?

The target for my security tag at work is at waist level, so several times a day I do a little jig to hit the target with my wallet while it's still in my pocket.

Today's quizit brought to us by @Xiwo Xerase!

    Friday! August 17:

When you were growing up did you have a favorite show? Have you watched it since then? Has your appreciation for it changed?

Many quality programs that I've loved have been mentioned already, so I'll just bring up a few that my life actually revolved around:

Transformers (I still have a scar from when my brother and I were fighting over who got to sit in the good spot to watch it)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (this one aired on Sunday mornings and thus saved me from a lifetime of being a recovering Christian)

Babylon 5 (raced home from MIT's outreach program to watch this one)

Star Trek: Voyager (dropped out of Boy Scouts for this one)

I haven't actually watched TMNT since then, but I've rewatched the others and still have much love for them. I have TF and B5 on DVD.

The word you're looking for is "nuanced". ::D:

The gaming term comes from comparing old guard wargamers with Napoleon's Old Guard. Note that this usage (to my knowledge) came out of historical miniatures wargaming into the rest of the hobby.

Indeed, didn't it originally refer to Historical Miniature Wargamers who looked down on SF/F Wargamers?

Tuesday, August 14: What job would you be terrible at?

Anything involving being surrounded by large crowds of people. I went to Boston Pride for the first time in June and had not one but two panic attacks. I'm probably never going to a parade again.

Today's question brought to us by @Inarah

    Wednesday, August 15:

If you were a fictional character in the Marvel universe, what do you think you’d be doing and what sort of life would you have? Comic book universe or cinematic?

I imagine I'd have the exact same job I do, only instead of turning down TSA, my CEO would be fending off Supervillains who want to steal our emotion detection software.

  11. I have reduced my ED3 wants list from 4 to 2, including acquiring the last original ED3 book. I just have two reprints left, one of which is hilariously selling for $300 on eBay. I can't imagine anyone who would spend $300 on Earthdawn books right now, let alone $300 on a reprint from an earlier edition, especially since ED4 is publishing new material.

    Rice Krispies.

Honorable mentions: Kix, Lucky Charms, and the Powerpuff Girls Cereal.

I found myself surprisingly hungry at work this morning, so I grabbed one of the single-serving boxes of Rice Krispies out of the cabinet and needed a rusty spoon to cut open the perforations in the cardboard to turn it into a disposabowl. And then I discovered the plastic bag inside didn't have any perforations at all and I had to tear it open with my fingers like some kind of beast.

At least I had leftover milk for my tea...

So Ocean's 8 was decent.  I thought Cate Blanchett did especially well putting out a character that was more than a stereotype.  None of the rest of the cast was bad, just weren't given much in the script to work with.  The plot was standard for the "Ocean's" franchise, how are they going to pull off the heist?  Unfortunately there wasn't a point during the movie where the tension built to the point where you thought they might fail.  Like a car revving up to high speed and being put into neutral the story just coasted to a stop without the really exciting parts.

Agreed. My wife and I really wanted Rose to be a better fashion designer and a worse thief to help throw complications at everyone else.

I did a 720° spin on an interstate overpass in a snow storm with someone about 200 yards behind me.  Got control as I came off the overpass headed in the proper direction and eased on the gas to keep them from plowing into me.  I was in a subcompact and the vehicle behind was a full sized Van. Both times I was facing backwards I saw the Van gaining on me.

    Ditto.
