Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

"Wiggly little suicide machine" is an accurate descriptor of my adorable nephew. He's not quite 2, and still hasn't grasped the fact that the laws of physics (gravity in particular) apply to him. He's already traumatized his AuntyBoot twice by simply...stepping off into space at the top of stairs (nothing worse than a scrape or bruise both times, thank heavens). His other pastimes include violently and without warning trying to fling himself from one's arms if he sees something of interest, and pulling things from the trash to chew on. It's a wonder anybody survives to adulthood, really. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

    Forumite Classes, 2019

Yay! My primary goal for my classes is for people to have fun, try new things, and hopefully learn something new! My classes are all in the evening, so if that doesn't work for your schedule, please feel free to find me outside of class and I'd be happy to give you a mini version. And Doug is fantastically knowledgeable about many things, photography in particular. If he's teaching his Miniatures Photography class this year, I highly recommend it! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Reapercon 2019 Sunday get together dinner

Yep, I was the one that organized it last year. After doing a lot of looking around, I ended up just going with the hotel restaurant last year primarily because it drastically simplified the logistics: They are well prepared and equipped to handle 25+ people groups (I've gone in very large groups to restaurants that were neither of these, and waiting 45 mins for cold food is not fun) Better able to account for food sensitivities than a buffet (which were the other options I was looking at, due to point #1) Least amount of travel time needed (plus people could easily come late or leave early as needed) No vehicular transportation required (trying to coordinate several carpools and make sure nobody got left behind, while do-able, was a potential issue that seemed easiest to avoid at the time) I'd be happy to set it up again this year, but if you'd like to take point, I'd be glad to assist! :) Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

    Forumite Classes, 2019

Fun with Shiny Paint! by Lauren Cowles (OneBoot) Type: Painting Level: Any, though more beginner-oriented Format: Hands-on! Synopsis: Do you want to do more than just paint silver on your swords and armor? Have you always wanted to experiment with different colors of metallic paint? Do you struggle with painting chainmail? If so, this class is for you! In this beginner-level course, we will cover how to thin metallic paints, use them for drybrushing, achieve different effects by layering metallics over regular paints, and how to do basic shading and highlighting with metallics. Miniatures and paints will be provided, as well as a handout. Bring your own brushes (including an OLD brush, since drybrushing is tough on the bristles) and come with questions! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

My brother-in-law gets migraines occasionally, and keeps a couple energy drinks in the pantry for such occasions. He says it definitely does help reduce the severity of his symptoms. Three times I've had what I now think are probably a flavor of migraine. They've always been mild and painless (thank goodness), but instead my balance was...weird. I was fine as long as my head was still, but otherwise I felt like I was about to fall over. My head also felt a little bit...buzzy is the only way I can describe it. It was hard to focus on things. The third time, when I noticed that lights were a little bit bothersome, I made the connection. So I ate a bowl of Ramen, downed a bottle of 'Energy' flavor Vitaminwater (has the caffeine equivalent of half a cup of coffee) and took a nap. Felt substantially better after I woke up, and my vertigo was gone, though I felt a bit off the rest of the day. If it happens again, I do plan to let my doctor know about it, especially since my mom just started having the occasional stress-induced migraine. Hers are also painless, though she gets visual disturbances; (she went to her optometrist first, and he suggested she talk to her doctor). As for sodium, my blood pressure runs on the low end of normal. My mom always heavily salts her food, so I never noticed it when I was growing up. Now though, I probably should use it more than I do. I use a light hand while cooking and don't generally add it to a finished dish. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Well, if you consider painting to be the application of colored liquids, pastes and powders to achive a desired visual effect...then yes. I do confess to literally LOL'ing at your post, btw. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Search for purplecatpainting and it should come up. The only thing there right now is a picture of my face, lol. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

I ordered business cards today! With my official new PurpleCat Painting logo and everything! They will be both shiny and purple (of course). I'm both super excited and kind of weirded out about this, lol. Also realized I have until I leave for PaizoCon to dump a boatload of pics of my past works onto my Instagram painting account, since there's nothing there yet, and it would be rather embarrassing to be sending people to an empty page. I r sooper prefishenul! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

    Pokemon Go

I re-downloaded it. I have...a lot of gifts to pick up! I still have the problem that I either need to drive places to spin for pokeballs (closest one is a 15 min walk away, located at a fountain in the middle of a roundabout ), or else pay real money. This is why I uninstalled it last time, even though I find the gameplay itself fun. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

    ReaperCon 2019 -- Classes I Would Take

I'm considering adding a 4th class to my teaching roster, but on a different topic (the 3 I'll be teaching now are all the same class). Originally I was contemplating a "painting gigantic minis" class, but after much thought I really doubt I could make a lecture-style class like that last for 2 hours, plus transporting my class examples would be...expensive. So instead, after reading back through this thread, I'm pondering a "fiddly details" class; like belts and jewelry and all the fun random bits and bobs that always seem to be hanging from a character's belt or backpack. If you were to take a class like that, what would you expect to learn/topics to be covered? Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

So... who's ready for ReaperCon 2019?

I had a kid in one of my Introduction to Metallic Paints classes last year, around 10-11ish (I'm not great with ages), and his dad. Most of my material is very beginner-friendly! The discussion on using layers for highlighting/shading could potentially be slightly beyond her (I don't recall what her skill level is), but if you're there to help her out, I'd be happy to have you both. I'm teaching my 'Fun with Shiny Paint!' class 3 times this year (assuming they are all accepted); Thursday and Saturday at 7pm, and Friday at 5pm. If that's too late for her, I'd be more than happy to set up a mini-class for her earlier in the day at a table in the common area. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

    Pokemon Go

I'll probably reinstall the thing just for ReaperCon, lol. Going poke-hunting with @Doug Sundseth and his awesome wife was a fun highlight last year. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  14. I'm not sure if this has been posted in this thread (if it has, I'm having trouble finding it again), but here's the full explanation for why Argent was shrunk, and why the barge lost its water base: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbrogWjRtNw&feature=youtu.be&t=2185 Long story short, those models were originally going to be scrapped due to MAJOR cost overrun (original Argent would have cost twice what Reaper had planned to manufacture ). However, Ron apparently threw a fit and so they did some figuring and determined that by dropping the base from the barge, and shrinking Argent by 30%, that Reaper could still produce the models, rather than simply refunding everyone who had pledged for one. This does change my feelings about the changes some, especially knowing that smaller Argent was the solution to "no Argent at all"; I just wish it had been communicated earlier so I could have managed my expectations before it arrived. ReaperCon 2019 Ribbons

I plan to have 2 ribbons this year: STOMP of Approval - all you have to do is tell me your forum name. If you don't have one yet, sign up and show me that you did so! SHINY!!!!! - take one of my classes! Or bring me a specific question about metallic paints (how to use them, coloring them, different brands etc.) and let me gush at you about them for a few minutes, lol. Still trying to decide on colors, then I'll be ordering. EDIT: I always order the 1 5/8" by 3 1/2" ribbons from the Ribbons Galore website. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
