Excuse the base, I just started painting again after a 4 year hiatus and didn't think to do anything with the gigantic broccoli base this guy comes with when I started. Things were pretty rough when I first started on him, by the time I was done a lot of the old tricks were starting to come back. As such, not surprised I'm pleased with the face (last thing I did) and not happy with the metallics (first thing I did). Oh well, it is good to have something done. Will spend the afternoon sawing off broccoli bases before I prime anything else :)

Master Series Kolinsky Brushes?
BunnyPuncher replied to warhorseminis's topic in Reaper General & Faq's
Add me to the waiting list as well... I would like to be able to order them through you guys as they were quite nice -
A little late with this, but just got him in the mail and thought I would throw some pictures of the un-boxing of this guy. Overall reviews are positive and the casting on the resin was really good. The only minor issue with this one was on the base. Air bubble right at the very front, but easily fixable with putty... And the picture that would have been useful to the guy who started this thread. I actually really like the proportions on this figure when it comes to the arms, body and legs. He's not a freaky giant upper body guy like the comparison on the right. That said, he looks a touch pinheaded and his axe really is over exaggerated (per the norm nowadays). I'm very glad I spent the $25 on this guy as he will be fun to paint up. I'm also very glad that Reaper made a LE model that wan't a chick or an elf. So Reaper, make nice figs in the resin line not chicks or elves and I'll buy them! :)

Very pretty indeed!

That's a wonderfully looking mini. I had forgotten this mini existed until I saw yours. Well done!

Lone Star Military Miniatures Society
BunnyPuncher replied to psyberwolfe1's topic in Tips & Advice: Painting
Thanks for letting us know. I just missed the one on the 7th, not keeping up with this section of the boards :( . I'll try to make the next one in March (I'm in NW San Antonio). I should be able to assemble those Dragon Gen 2 Fallshirmjager by then (200+ parts for 4 1/35 figs! crazy awesome. but crazy). I'm assuming people will be painting and such? Or is it more of a "meet n greet"? Keep us updated if things get canceled/moved etc. -
Your work makes me think "retro". I'd love to see what you could do for some Bloodbowl star players :) Nice stuff.

FINE! (in whiny sulky child voice)... NMM it is.

Yet another vote for faces (and eyes). Blending/Shading fabric Second for the airbrush :) EDIT: Oh yeah... NMM... I have never seen this done well enough (other than on the internet) to make me want to give up my metallics. It is a strange mystery to me!

I need to start planning for this. I live in San Antonio now so I really have no excuse not to go. I'll be done teaching, my wife will be away and I'd like to meet some folks and take some classes. Must register soon. Back in the hobby finally!

Hee Hee, Now I have to show my wife February :) Love the work on the layout Spike, and all the pics look great.

Frankly I couldn't care less about Dragon as I've never been a big fan of the content. Now losing Dungeon does sadden me as they imho have put together some nice APs and modules in the time it has been in production. That said, there is still a tone of stuff I have not read let alone used in my collection. I'm really looking forward to Pathfinder and hope to convince one set of my current players to let me run it once we've completed the Red Hand of Doom.

Here's to hoping the age doesn't impair the skills of one of my painting "heroes" :P

I'll be playing a Human NE Bard 7 / Assassin 3 Gregorian the Voice of Purity is renowned in the Duchy of Ernst as the most gifted operatic soloist the realm has ever seen. Possessing an almost inhuman vocal range, Gregorian is famous for his ability to dramatically shift from a deep baritone to a rising soprano as musical need dictates. Physically a he has striking presence with his pale, severe yet handsome features framed by a long mass of rich coal-black hair. Tall of frame and possessing a lithe but muscular physique, Gregorian inspires lust in the hearts of women and respect from men of all stations. His most ardent fans spread rumours that Gregorian is in truth a mortal descendant of the god of light. On stage, his vocal abilities and natural charisma astound the audience as he leads them on an emotional journey from the darkest depths of despair to an almost ascendant joy by the end of the opera. Some audience members throughout the years have claimed to have experienced a spiritual awakening during the shows, and thus was Gregorian dubbed many years ago the "Voice of Purity". A few observant critics have questioned how Gregorian is so able to capture the essence of pure evil so readily in his music. Askul Vale, a minor noble of the realm, once suggested at a post-performance dinner party that Gregorian harboured terrible secrets in his soul "Gregorian" he said, "While you are the most gifted performer I have ever seen, you quite frankly fill me with dread. Your music awakens things in me that I would prefer not to think about. Yes, by the end of the show your song is purifying, but I believe you take pleasure in the destruction of our souls and then rebuilding them in your image. I sense the mood of the audience during your performance, and by the end, their hearts need you to provide their salvation. Only someone who knows the dark intimately could make song such as you do, for I can see in your eyes the love of it." Askul soon after died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 39. Born in Lower Salteran, Gregorian's journey from the bleakest poverty to his current status as a wealthy and famous bard is a long and mysterious one. Gregorian himself is circumspect about his upbringing and origins as he knows the mystery only increases his appeal to his clients and the masses. Gossip suggests that Gregorian learned his trade in one of the ancient and mysterious monasteries high in the remote hills, where secrets of the gods are closely sequestered. In any event, Gregorian's calling has led him across most of the civilized neighbouring realms and even to Greyhawk city. He returned three years ago to the Duchy, and has been entertaining the rapturous masses and local nobility ever since. His status as an entertainer allows him easy access to all levels of society and he often frequents the homes and offices of the mightiest politicians and noblemen in the realm. If you can think of any cool ideas for this character let me know :) I really want my charity to get the money (minmum of $120, hopefully a lot more).

Our newest charity initiative Just something cool that we are doing. Thought people might be interested. At this time I do not think we are accepting anything other then local (Halifax) pledges, but maybe in years to come. Our original thought was to webcast, but we have determined that was a little ambitious for our first attempt at this. http://www.gelatinousdudes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1436

GW Brushes vs W&N 7 and 7M

I use vals and W&N and like em both. I stock up on W&N when the local art shop puts em on sale for $7 CDN (usually they are $19). -

Design an Encounter Challenge (Prize!)

Just bumping this as the deadline is fast approaching! -
There is a skirmish game for DDM, but 90% of the minis sold end up used for D&D... You can pick up a whackload of cheap "commons" & uncommons on EBAY for next to nothing. Just make sure you are combining shipping costs.

Welcome to the first "Design an Encounter" contest from the Gelatinous Dudes. The Gelatinous Dudes are a regional, not-for-profit association of geeks and gamers who do a lot of gaming and pretty hefty amount of charitable work. Date submission is due: April 8th, 2007 Prize: The prize is the mini I painted pictured below (this mini is also the "focus" of the encounter - details follow beneath the picture). As always, due to my terrible photo taking and photoshopping skills, the mini looks better in hand - and will be on display at the swamp (for the locals - Halifax) until it is given away. Judging: I will be the sole judge for this event and will determine the winner. For those of you who do not know me I am an educator at the university level and as such, consider myself pretty skilled at unbiased evaluation. Eligibility: Open to anyone everywhere. To claim the prize you must come pick it up (Halifax, NS, Canada), or be willing to cover shipping costs to your location. I supplied the mini and about 4 hours of my life in painting, so I do not think it much to ask that you pay for it to get to you :) I will not be giving the prize out UNLESS there are at least 5 submissions to this contest. Please post if you intend to submit. The Goal: Design an exciting encounter for D&D 3.5 in which the creature below is the main focus. Some details of the mini: Reaper calls him a Half-Ogre He stands upon a large base and is 1.5" tall from top of the base to top of the helm. The Criteria (and required categories) Crunch (25%) - The encounter needs to be fully statted. Points will be given for making a challenging (for the CR & EPL you choose) creature that will be fun for PCs to face and DMs to run. Points will also be given for originality and utility. You may use any WoTC published D&D 3.5 supplement to design the creature. Fluff (25%) - Who is this fellow? What drives him? Where is he from? What is his back story? Is he a BBEG? A follower? A lieutenant? What is his place in the world and why does he want to kill these pesky adventurers. Include in here a bit on personality to the help guide the DM if there is an RPG opportunity. The Encounter Text (25%) - You know that little box of text that the DM reads as the party enters the room? Write one that describes the scene in appropriate detail without being too lengthy. It should describe the creature, describe the environs, and anything the creature immediately says. Battlefield Manipulation & Tactics (25%) - The goal here is to make an exciting physical environment for combat and explain to potential DMs how to take advantage of the creature's feats/skills etc. If you'd like you can also include a map of the battlefield. Also, if the creature has minions with him, describe how they should behave in the fight. Other things: There can be other monsters in the encounter, but their individual CR must be at least two lower than the Creature's. The design should include (but not necessarily limited to) elements of the miniature (equipment etc.) YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR SUBMISSION HERE! . <--- That is a linky btw :) While .doc and .pdf files offer more creative options for formatting, this is a community event and I want the output to be available to everyone, so please post to the forum thread in the link above. You can email me a formatted "final product" if you would like but it is not necessary. Hopefully people dig this. If we get lots of submissions I'll do another in a little while (feel free to suggest what kind of mini you'd like to see in the future - bear in mind my costs (aka no giants, dragons or other big things!). PLEASE NOTE: ORIGINAL WORK ONLY PLEASE!!! While I may ask contributors if I can use their encounter in a module that will be freely available online eventually, you retain full copyright and ownership of any work submitted. Cheers and happy designing.

Saw it last night... left with twenty minutes go. Most disappointing movie in years. I was stoked to see it and it turned out to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. 30 minute movie with 90 minutes of slo-mo kills. Blegh.
