  1. QUESTION SEPT. 12th. What are your favorite Mushrooms (either to eat or to admire)? I do have a favorite mushroom! I though this was a question to skip, yet hear I am. Chicken-of-th-woods , an unmistakable yellow and orange shelf fungus - that is edible raw, and tastes like chicken. It grows in my state and nothing else looks like it, If I found some I would have to try it. I found out about it when painting reapers mushroom men. I have thrown sentient versions at D&D parties twice, and after a discussion neither party ate it.
  2. It dropped 40 degrees and rained. It was 98 on Thursday. It is supposed to go back up 80s for next week, but it still seems like a change in season.
  3. Well up until now I have been saving all the ribbons and medals in the single drawer of my painting desk . As of this year I have to admit that it is full. this years ribbons are sitting on my bookshelf net to my bed. I suppose I need to put a hook somewhere and hang them there - but the two years with the longest trails have weak points where they break from their own weight. I could do a separate hook for just my bronze medals. TLDR ; old storage full, um..... BEST QUESTION. gaming table , with at least 7 chairs - and enough glass, dust tight, display cases for completed minis. & Dioramas. - bookshelves for all gaming books. I know that this is an achievable set up - but it would actually require a larger house than I possess. oh and a secret (behind a bookshelf) door to enter. Fantastic. Met cool new people - and had lots of fun hanging out with old friends from online/previous cons and local painting group. Continued to dress like a pirate, lots of complements on the Hat and Feather - I can see why several regulars have adopted distinctive hats to wear every year. Could not get my minimalist cloak / Brooch to wear correctly, left it in my room. I missed the costume contest (although still dressed as a pirate) because I was too busy playing D&D space pirates. Spelljammer game ran like a dream, funny, gonzo, Players really liked the ridiculous PCs. I got a Trophy! Gummy Painting! I found my pants! (sunday morning is hard yo.)
  4. I found the last the last person I needed just before the auction. It was a blast as always - especially the night @Xiwo Xerase and I were playing a (2 hour?) board game and there was a steady stream of people stopping by to chat, and trade signatures. having new people to talk too made even the waiting between turns more fun.
  5. This was one of my (many) favorite things to happen at the convention, and I was barely involved. I won an award for making whimsical, passionate art, and then find people doing this. This absolutely where I belong. I got to see some of the artist alley entries, but hotel was closing the room, so I went off to bed, and only found out about the second half over breakfast. This photo essay really made me feel like I was there! - but I still got to sleep which was also super important at this point. I may work on some practice gummies before next year.
  6. nice work! the face does a great job selling that he is dead..
  7. Con games and friends ! @Dragoneye @OneBoot & @Smallish_Sam
  8. Faction speed paint was a blast ottermark FTW!
  9. love the blues on the horse, the rocky cliffs and the waves on the water surface. this is excecellent work.
  10. Getting down to it now - 2 days left. I think I won’t glue them down until I do final touch ups at con. but the pins are in place. title; Claude Monet’s realm in the Faewyld
  11. Elderspawn says I should post this one
  12. This is what Im including with my entry : This elven tribe has featured heavily in my D&D campaign. All the cloaks are based on Monet’s impressionist paintings. Their names, when their cloaks were painted and campaign details, from left to right. Keleris Shostrii - (golden water lilly pond 1917) Ex-boyfriend, neglectful father of Raine the Rat (PC) & Scaven (villian). Lyanna Timothena (Water lilies 1916) - Weaver of water llily cloaks, powerful fey warlock, mother of Scaven. Carrying a grudge about the murder, quick resurrection, and capture of her son. Venturis Waescan - (Japanese footbridge and waterlillies 1899) Tribe’s drunken layabout but “The Elven Wine Merchant” to the shadowguild of the Imperial city. Ilbryen Torwenys- (Weeping willow 1920) The tribe’s youngest hunter, recently fallen for Dannistra the drow (PC) from the Imperial city. Maglyen Zintrii (Water lilies 1906) The tribe’s lead singer, and a hunter. He pines after Lyanna, but she has no interest in him.
  13. Today’s attempt: My fav version yet - I think I can do a front edge with milliput- and the I will paint very happy with this progress too.
  14. It was also suggested, that if I got the front curve and railing of the bridge right, I just use horizontal planforms behind it for the minis - this sounds like a great hack, but I'm not sure it is easier to implement. If I cant get the figures to stand correctly on the curve I will consider it as an alternate. I also arranged for some friends to drive it down so I don't need to worry about it falling apart in my airplane luggage. In the D&D game the party is finally leaving the tribe. They killed the wererat that started the whole thin then revivified him back to life to answer questions. He is going to get off with banishment for his crimes, because no no one will cross his mother (the weaver of cloaks) His main crime (besides trying to start an apocalypse) was murdering /decapitating a PC. - which was done OOC on the players last session before moving to the UK. The town is no longer safe for the PCs to stay in, in case the Weaver finds vengeance too tempting. but they leave with friends, lovers, the grave of a PC, and an enemy behind. They spent 3 out of 8 game (monthly) sessions interacting with the tribe. its been a blast.
  15. I finished an entry! #2 is a two days at the most. #3 needs to done first so I can send it with people driving instead of carry-on. - it is the furthest from completion.
  16. I liked the wooden version better - but once I covered it in clay it seemed to bulky. and the bare wood structure was wrong for the painitng. also the angle is too steep, the elves are would balance precariously on it with out lot of issues. Next ill try a cardboard bridge shape - but I don't know how to do railing s that will look good, or survive transit.
  17. Revised bridge - fragile, functional but not beautiful. there is still time for a third attempt…
  18. Bridge building is giving me flashbacks to 1st year studying architecture - model building. here are two versions
  19. I need to start working on that bridge! need to go buy more popsicle sticks - apparently I have been saving 2 different sizes of wooden sticks, and still dont have enough for an arch across 7" | I did remove the back of the cloak with simple green and a toothbrush , and its primed for a new design - I considered showing the cloak transforming from one design to another ... but not sure I can sell the design visually.
  20. I haven't finished any of my three entries - Painters, painter (MFG - moonlight minis) and an elaborate Diorama - but I did put in about 2 hrs work today and two of the entries moved forward. I still have two faces to finish, but the clothes are getting there - not prefect but to where I don't hate them. that reminds me I decided to completely redo a cloak - I think i can use greenstuff and a toothbrush to remove some of the paint without damaging the front too badly - I should work on that tonight. ill miss the meet and greet day but would be happy to sing for ribbons. my voice is honed by years of singing lullabies to my spawn - My fav is probably Gillgallad which Gimli in the movies refused to sing, but I learned from a British radio version.
  21. yay another elf tribe ! hmm you have a chief wit a spear but no swordsman. well done with the group theme.
  22. After the fixed picture above I dont hate it anymore, but I still don't like it either. so today I went back to working on the backdrop. base canvas, and while it my be my fav of the canvases, wont work with a bridge, So I also updated the emerald dream verticle canvas.
  23. Q: 3 AUG Follow up from the final July question, Did you finish what was on your workbench last weekend? haha nope. but I did work the elven warlock.
