  1. I do. We're having a pot luck lunch this week at work....
  2. Ok, so now I am NEVER buying any underwear that isn't hermetically sealed.
  3. Thankee kindly, sai. Did you receive my card? Mail seems to be going slowly from the ship... also, sadly, I had not received yours when I departed, hopefully it'll be awaiting my return. No, not yet. Yup, hopefully the cards waiting for you when you get back. Do you use the same mail system as the Navy? I remember it being fairly awful. More than the average amount of stuff would get lost, and/or delayed for ever. I remember once getting something from my mom about a month after deployment ended. It had been mailed around 4 months previous. My wife and I got into the habit of not only dating our correspondance, but also numbering them so that we'd know what oreder to read them in.
  4. Thanks for reminding me. I was gonna rant about that a bit in my previous post. I totally agree with you. At this point, it's more of a PITA than anything else....
  5. Welcome home, Last Knight. I hope you enjoy your time off, however long or short it may be! I'm sorry to hear about the horrible news, OneBoot. Hopefully, everything will work out as well as possible for those involved. Celery, waffles, and old cook books, oh my! Have a good vacation, Ub3r!! Where are you going? Buglips as a divinity? That makes for an....interesting thought. I mentioned my son's fencing competetion a week or so ago; well he finished 10th out of 60! Not too shabby, IMO. I'm proud of him, and glad that he did that well. He's a little bummed that the season is now over, but he's already (re)adapting to lazy teenager mode. I've been super busy for the past week, and it's not going to let up for at least another week. I have 3 labs (one with a report), a metric butt-ton of Autocad drawings, and the finishing touches to put on a team project that has us building a spectrum analyzer (a type of device used to analyze the characteristics of various signals) along with a report on the process. Oh yeah, I also have that pesky job thing to deal with, too. I probably shouldn't even be spending time here right now, but I've got to relax a little. 6. What is the lizard/dog/animal/dragon thing at the top of page 2? You've done an awesome job on the marsh troll, great stuff!
  7. Any chance of a link to where those of us not local might be able to get ahold of one/some? How much do they sell for? Will there be more sets in the future?
  8. You've got some neat stuff here. Some of it I recognize, some I don't. Would you mind doing a rundown of who makes what?
  9. Yup, that's exactly what my dad did. For the cheap stuff way in the background he made pine trees from bamboo skewers and furnace filters. He'd cut up the filter into roughly triangular shapes, impale a few onto the skewers, airbrush 'em a dark green, spend a few minutes doing the 'trunks' a brown/gray color and done. They didn't look like much up close, but when he put 'em in the background, they worked just fine.
  10. Ok, now those stalagmites are pretty fricking cool!! How did you make them? I'm figuring some kind of putty/clay and toothpicks for teeth. Would you mind putting up a simple 'how-to'? I think i'd like to try a few of these myself.
  11. That is rather odd. How does your boss know whether you're wearing underwear or not? Doesn't that violate a couple of laws regarding personal privacy?
  12. Oh, cool! If there's anything that's better than one gribbly human-mutant-spawn-thing, it's twogribbly human-mutant-spawn-things!!
  13. Congratulations and good luck to him. Which weapon? He'll be fencing epee, with the possibilty of also fencing foil, depending on whether a team mate can get over illness by tomorrow. He's much better with the epee, though.
  14. A human male fencer, preferably with an epee. Reaper has 2, but they're both female. >>edit---found a few possibles after searching swashbuckler, but the guys are carrying the wrong equipment
  15. I second (third, fourth, whatever) the bases, buildings and terrain ideas!!
  16. My son is going to be the state finals for fencing tomorrow, woo-hoo!! I'm really proud of him, even if I do tease him about his 'over-grown knitting needle'. RE: end of the world--I'm pretty good at coming up with unconventional solutions to problems and jury-rigging stuff together. Very defense minded. I'm good with firearms, including firing at moving, breathing targets. I'm ok at archery, although only against defenseless paper targets. I also have fairly decent medical/first aid skills. Also, this isn't particularly useful to anyone else, but I have an cast iron stomach. There's not very much I can't/won't eat.
  17. It looks like I may not make it tomorrow, at least not for the whole time. My son has state finals for fencing tomorrow clear over on the othwer side of the state in New Haven. Depending on when we get back home I may pack up a few things to work on, or maybe just stop by to chat with everyone.
  18. TEE HEE HEE. In Djibouti, the ship's bosun (my supervisor, in civilian parlance) came back to the ship covered in glitter... Apparently he's got a girlfriend out in town. We gave him crap for days... ...and when I come back from leave, I`m bringing glue and glitter to make a pretty pretty "Boatswain" sign for his door. PS: 16% left on my battery. I'll be vanishing again soon. You've GOT to take a picture of that when you do it!
  19. That's pretty cool. I can't think of any cool NPC stories right now, but I've got a couple of pretty good character stories if the thread develops (devolves?) in that direction.
  20. Yup, thanks for the warning/heads up. I'll be sure to miss it. Not to derail the thread, but I kinda have to wonder how heavy metal got lumped into the nerd sterotype. Most of the kids I knew way back when that liked metal weren't considered nerds (weird and/or troublemakers/devil worshippers maybe, but not nerds), nor were they into RPG's. Also, why is it something that one is expected to grow out of? I know that I haven't; i still listen to it, wear the concert shirts and go to shows every once in a while.
  21. Hmmm, I guess I'm a bigger nerd than some folks, I don't own the DVD release (yet), but I was able to find it on Netflix and watched some of them with my kids, and I enjoyed it almost as much now as I did when I was a kid.
  22. Good luck with the job situation, Matrissa!! Hey, Last knight, how ya doing? I spent a fair amount of time in the area you're in on my last deployment, I can certainly remember the heat. I don't really envy you at the moment; wasn't my favorite of areas to visit/be in. Sorry to hear about the mail situation, I sent off a postcard a while back with a typical snowy New England landscape on it, hopefully it reaches you soon. I'd offer to send you some snow and ice to help you cool off, gut I kinda don't think it'd make the trip. Stay safe out there!
