Both plastic and metal minis have their up and downs. Check out Fenryll's minis, even though they are made of plastic (specifically resin), they are very detailed.

Hee hee hee! All this is PAYBACK for what happened to Ral Partha!!!! A celebration is in order!

Hmph! Another bomb in the making. Once again, the bad karma they incurred after what happened to Ral Partha will bite them in the rear end!

Any chance we'll see a gollum like critter this yr

I have seen these official LOTR minis. They cost an arm and a leg. -
I just discovered a new way to paint drow. I paint them black, as they should be, instead of that phoney baloney drow flesh purple, and then dry brush it with gray..... Now I can see the details, and they are still black skinned!

Very nice. I never have the guts to modify anything. I would be two scare of screwing it up and ended up with something worse. I only modified one mini so far, simply gluing in a pair of bat wings in the back of a scantily dressd wood elf and made her a succubus.

Strange... Just last year, the place where my brother works at had this scarecrow building contest where Christmas is the theme. So he built a Succubus dressed as Santa, shoveling coals into a Christmas stocking. Hmmmm....coincidence???? ???

Maybe it's a weasel..or a mongoose.

That Vandorendra has better be the marilith that some people are talking about. I passed up the one on E-bay for this!!!

Well, at least you realize that there is nothing wrong with thinking about what it's like to be a woman. Those who protest too much often have something to hide. :) Then again, everything has a price....being a man you have to put up with all sorts of backward attitudes and hangups, and being a woman you have to put up with periods and all sorts of weird things associated with the reproductive system. :(

Hmmmm, once again the heterosexual male mentality puzzles me. They would have no problem playing a non-human male character yet often balk at playing a human female. Madonna is right in her song "What's It Feel Like For A Girl": It is okay for a girl to look like a boy but not the other way around because for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because being a girl is degrading. Oh well, then again, men are not exactly having it any easier than the ladies. They couldn't get on the lifeboats on the Titanic!

This coming Wednesday I am going upstate to help my brother move into his new house. There is a hobby store near where he lives that is packed with Reaper minis (none where I live....) :( I will be checking out the place and see what I can pick up from there..... :)

I might as well have a "topless army" consisting of 18 succubi, three lamias (two with snake tails), three medusa/gorgon (all snake tailed AND topless). They need no weapons.....they have their own Deadly Weapons ala Chesty Morgan! :D :D :D

Blond huh? Look like Falco Steelcross by any chance? :D

Yes!!! Practice is the word. All the reading about techniques and method doesn't do you an ounce of good unless you practice. Knowing about something is an altogether different thing than actually doing it. When I started painting again....I would take me FOREVER to finish one figure. After a while, it almost becomes second nature. I would go through a dozen minis in a week, if not less time than that. Then again, I like to believe I have a life....so I don't spent three hours just painting a face, like the "pros" do.

Interesting things about painting blondes. I noticed that I often paint the men as blonds and the women as redheads. Somehow redheaded female minis seems a bit more dynamic and the blond men looked a bit more heroic.

Mad Magazine has a lot of funny quotes....two of which I remember are: People who complained that they didn't get what they deserved don't know how lucky they are. You know we are in trouble when there's 4000+ laws to enforce the Ten Commandments. And also some others I have heard: It's always better to be looked over than to be overlooked. Between two evils, I always pick the one I've never tried before.

Strange.....I thought somebody bid on it....perhaps a retraction? ??? Anyway, my brother did one of those searches for me, apparently, the guy tried to sell the marilith figure for 24.99 before, but no takers. Perhaps too expensive....because a boxed set usually go up to that range.... Well, I may be desperate, but not THAT desperate.
-
SOmebody has finally bid on the Maralith.. :( I really want that mini....but my brother said if Reaper is coming out with one, wait. Why spend 25.00+ dollars for instant gratification when that money can get me another marilith and several other minis...... Oh well, I am taking his advice..... And I better not be screwed over!

How about using the blue/yellow epoxy that the pros use to make the original figures? BTW, where you do get them?
-
Not very much details. :( Let's say the overall effect is like I have a cookie cutter in the shape of wings and the sculpey were cookie dough (except I don't have a cookie cutter in that shape, much less that small a size). One of the trick is work the sculpey on a flat surface...I didn't pick the thing up at all, other than putting it on a piece of aluminum foil and it goes straight to the oven. Alas I don't have a digital camera :( so I couldn't post them. My brother has one and maybe I can ask him to help me out the next time he stops by.

Speaking of chess, I was always interesting in one with Demons against Devils. The kings are pit fiends and balors, the queens are succubi and erinyes. The knights are narzugons and armanites, the rooks the Foretress of Malsheem and the Fortress of Indiffernce, the pawns, lemures vs. dretches, bishops, mariliths vs. gelugons, and so on.

So how I get wings from Sculpey? Here is what I did. I am sure some other more talented people out there have other methods, but here is now I did mine. You are NOT going to get the wings as detailed as the ones you get from Reaper and the like. As I said before, they are not exactly perfect, but passable...especially with a paint job. The wings I made are for the first succubus JUlie Guthrie made for her line in Grenadier. First I laid the succubus down on a piece of tracing paper. I drew the wings on the tracing paper so I know how big they should be and what shape they should be in. Next, grab some sculpey and basically, roll it out till it is flat and thin (but not TOO THIN). I then put the tracing paper with the illustration of the wings I did earlier on the sculpey, and gently, with a sharp pointed pencil (or anything with a thin point), trace an outline of the wings from the paper onto the sculpey. Then, get a hobby knife, razor blade, whatever, to cut the sculpey along the outlines of the wings. Now, this succubus figure have an indentation on her back...where the original wings were supposed to be glued in. So I take a little piece of sculpey, and put it in the center of the wings. (or rather, if the wings came out particularly well, bake it NOW and THEN put the piece of sculpey in the center of the wings). Then I put the succubus figure and press her back, where the indentation is, onto it. Now I have a mold of her back in the center of the wings. Of course, make sure to gently and carefully get rid of excess sulpey that get squeezed out when you press the figure's back down. Then off into the oven.....once it's hard, I paint the wings....painting the tips white to give the illusion of bony wingtips, and painting various sections of the wings alternately brown and black to give the illusion of the folds of the wings. There, as I said, not perfect, but okay. As for wings for other creatures like dragons, I haven't try THAT yet. But to be honest, when I started doing it, I have no idea of what I was going to do....It kind of happened along the way.

Driz'zt is a self center holier than thou self righteous idiot! Oh how I love to have him captured and sacrificed to Lolth!

Sculpey is a very convenient thing.... For example I once got a demon beast from Ral Partha.... The figure is good but there is something uneven about its base and at the slightest nudge of a table it topples over. VERY FRUSTRATING! Basically, it can't stand on its on unless it is leaning on something because even a slight breeze can blow it over. So when I found out about Sculpey, I bascially sculpt a new base around it. Take the sculpted base into the oven (without the mini!), once it's done, crazy glue the new base to the original uneven base of the mini...and now it can stand on its own!!! Hallelujah! :) Another time I converted a sylvan elf from Ral Partha into a succbus with a pair of wings from the succubus in Julie Guthrie's line. Now I am stuck with a succubus figure with no wings. So I took sculpy and sculpted her a pair of wings. Not exactly perfect, but passable.
