    CAV FLUFF

Now that don't fly with me... I'm 33, my wife just delivered our 3rd child a few months ago, and I'm always writing something. Look at it like this, CAV is a combined arms game, yet the first JoR focused on primarily CAVs right? Then the 2nd JoR really polished off that aspect....... I'm wondering what the 3rd JoR will bring us...... Fluff at this point centers around the production notes and technical data of each unit. the factions and UCOR data are just to give a backdrop, I can live with that considering the technical data is most relevent to me, gamewise. Politics, business dynamics, ETC, ETC, are just gravy, they just give the game flavor, nothing more. (caution food metaphor.) So with this in mind, you see, Reaper gave you the "meat" without the gravy. That is intentional..... If the meat is no good, the gravy is'nt going to hold it down for too long. Its then just a disguise to mask any screw ups. heck, you can pour gravy on garbage and it might be good for the first few bites. I think the "meat" Reaper has provided is pretty good actually, and well thought out. So when they add the gravy (and they will) you will have a masterpeice on your hands, or at least something that could contend with older more established "institutions" like Battletech. At this point, I can see their focus being on making sure the production and technical data matches the in game usage of said unit, and in some cases, a few hints here and there on how to best maximize the use of said unit. Its in there already....... there isn't even a sense of urgency on the issue, like some people are making it out to be. I view the Reaper staff like Dexter's laboratory, always up to something. I think patience is the virtue here, sit back, relax, listen, watch, you might learn something..... football talk- Read the play....... Well, I'm sitting back watching with a smile, cause I'm on to these cats...... edit: Yes, I'm throwing in a few innuendo
  4. @ Stuart and Spartan I'm updating some positions on the map itself. sifting through all the incured losses,ETC,ETC. will have it all to you early tommorrow @Spartan, your LZ is already marked, just need to know what your bringing to the party. @Red With Spartan dropping in, your first task will be to Op for Silent Storm up north, in particular those two Samurai. We lost a dropship in that area before, you'll have to Alpha Mike Foxtrot the Silent Storm Lead Element comes out to 2568 points Starhawk VI 789 points (Elite Crews) Samurai (see the Milnet thread) 621 points (Elite Crews) Samurai 621 points (Elite Crews) Sovereign 3 537 points (Elite Crews) this is Captain Ryger's section, He's in the Starhawk VI, and its safe to say Delgado infantry will be covering him, at least 2 platoons, 1500 points each. Watch out for Luietenant Nelson at 2000 points. He's sure to be near. please confirm
  5. Ack! well, it'll take some time for Lt Mchale to recoup his losses. Currently, Red I have you holding NC2424 (11 3/4, 4 3/4) but Geronimo is directly overhead, so I highly doubt you'll be bothered by any large scale movements. your next objective would be to move into your operations area while the Geronimo covers you. After tonight's game, you will have the Geronimo covering all of your movements from here out and you will be able to call in fire at will. Remember Geronimo only has four guns and recycle time is a turn. The Spartans would deploy over the original G Unit deployment zone, and air support will take out that ECCM tower 78E before they do. Commander Alex Boma will be tasked with pressing into the L8 zone and hitting the breeder facility. We ripped up the Disciples defense grid, now we have a lot more room to manuever. currently, Ortiz Battery is the major threat to our operations, Delgado is too busted up to be any more but a nuisance, and of course the Silent Storm is still a MAJOR THREAT in your immediate area. the both of you will conduct operations now focusing on neutralizing the Ortiz Battery. Wild Apaches will sieze the opportunity created by Tecumseh and Sierra Groups and try to secure that crossing. Ortiz will be hit from front to back if we can get past the last of Delgado...... Fortunately, Ortiz has lost much of their C3, and currently we all have a +2 TACOPS advantage against Ortiz. this means extra initiative, use it. On a bad note, the disciples will most likely be reinforced throughout the planet by none other than the Red Sentinals. Expect full Squadrons of CAV heavy elements smoke assing from the south when the Coyotero pull out.

OK, Red yes, your making a lot of valid points but your still missing the big one. Reaper knows this already. I can vouch for that just by some of the discussions going back and forth with Matt Ragan himself. Albeit some of them discussions, have been a little heated at times, mostly on my part cause I get a little on the sensative side with things. But ultimitely, there is more going on than a lot of people realize; I'm not clear of the details myself but I can see for certain, they have a gameplan and their sticking to it; and their going to surprise the heck out of everybody when they do "bless us". Keep this in mind, Red; these guys do much more than just invent rules, playtest them and come up with minis. They do have an "ear to the streets", everything being said; they're listening. furthermore, they know the market pretty well, from a business perspective too; meaning marketing reports and customer surveys, yada, yada. Unfortunately on Chrome's statement, I would probably be one of those cats more interested in the CBT fiction, so I can sympathesize with what he's saying. Some guys just want to play the game, I can respect that. Really, I fell in love with CAV because of the action mechanics; the upgrade tables were one of the first things I looked at, and I was hooked. All these "little short-comings" were either corrected, or I found away around within the rules. For some stuff that just didn't satisfy my "tactical sense", I just created myself or borrowed from other gaming groups. The first CAV I bought was actually a Starhawk V (hmmmm), I remember having to look at this ghastly thing for an hour deciding if my money was well spent. I was comparing the "Combat Discipline" to what is exercised in Battletech. Remember, what happens when KAMUT is mechwarrior in a Summoner? and I tweaked that brute to precision...... I was always used to versetility so the idea of "paired weaponry" was somewhat discouraging. Understanding the system more, I realized the "tactical sense" that when into it. Yes, it could be made into a VERY COMPLEX system that would almost play out like a tactical sim,(I know, I can take it there) but in keeping it reasonable for a broader group, it makes sense they want to keep it simple. Understand the terminology used, "Core Rules", that implies there is more to this game, but what they're doing is allowing the player to dictate his/her level of complexity they are willing to take this game. Hence, there is a LOT MORE coming.... So on the issue of fluff, I can see they did the same thing........ What your seeing is "core fluff". At this stage, freaks like me could take from the "core fluff" and build an epic. Right now, their just trying to get people to play the game before bogging them down with way too many little details. They will come, and in my personal situation, it comes as you play the game........ I can see why you would think Reaper's playing it safe with this project, at this stage, they have to. CAV is really yet to "establish itself" in the market, so when somebody says "Mecha", the first picture that comes to mind is not a CAV, instead being something from anime, or in the gaming world, a "mech". Look at the difficulty trying to break these former Battletech players from their old mindset. Fortunately my CBT experience is more on the PC as opposed to the table top. If not for CAV, I would've had a bad outlook on CBT in general, considering how I feel about Poke-mech...... with everything said, I hope you realize why I'm telling everyone not to sweat the issue of fluff.
  7. it takes her a little longer to break out the rust, I gotta get her going with this angle. She has a few things already, but I'm not sure she's ready to put it out yet. I'll let her know...

My brother has a character called Preston Alverex (Pheonix- on the Cassini Mil net thread) if he heard that, you would be breaking his heart......
  9. yeah, you gotta manually put the space when you paste it over from word. Its a good peice, keep it coming.
  10. Necessary Roughness (Thugabee Street) – Cruz A little on the grimy side, but this is some serious "hoodlum science". 1 I’m laid back, catch me loungin’ to the latest sounds of Floetry 2 Keep it real like “peace bro”, that’s how we roll in the streets 3 Giggin’ on Thugabees, hoping these young cats wise up 4 And play off their street smarts, open their eyes up 5 Too many nowadays claiming, playa! Cashing in on a role 6 Exaggerate, popping off on **** that they’ll never know 7 But how real ****** roll? Taking care of his and his own 8 40 hours, watch his kids bugging out when he’s home 9 Who’s claiming gangsta? Thugabee, quick to call your fake *** out 10 and show you gats, use the butts to slap the taste out your mouth. 11 You got the rep to maintain, now you’re getting gigged cause your shook 12 so hold it down, young ****** testing you for your crook 13 Your peoples clipping you, cause now they’re smelling blood when your soft 14 You load a clip but popped it off your guts and shot your **** off 15 And now your enemies 've called you out on the streets 16 You thought your game’s tight, until they beat you down to your cleats. 17 You’re like a vegetarian so dont you try to bring me the beef. 18 On these streets, you’re lucky if you walk away with your teeth. 19 you studio, hoe, your label’s pimped your fast little *** 20 and think about ain’t it amazing what you’ll do for the cash 21 You live a role your exec wrote, it’s just an image 22 thinking that ****** ain’t smart enough to see how you really living. 23 youngsta had the audacity to gig on me and my rap spit 24 got my first degree while you were still in GED classes. 25 playa! Roughness is necessary, thug wannabies, we call em thugabees Your whole scope is elementary....... back to Thugabee Street....
  11. Cipher accepted Hiccup ribbit! cipher passed! LOL
  12. HMMM Interesting, I have to think on that one. thanks edit: after returning from a quick assignment. The world is a beautiful place, we are the ones choose to make it ugly. pretty deep, bossman; 50 cool points on that
  13. OK, its seems I have to eleborate on just what a cipher is.... In some circles, its a few MCs delivering rhymes, not necessarily battling, just rocking the crowd. in other circles its an exchange of poetic thought, sometimes rhymes, often not. I've seen cats break it down in terms of metaphors; It would be pretty cool to hear some Haiku from Matt. There was one in a Coke commercial featuring the Roots, where everybody just contributed to their little jam they had going. nothing rehearsed, just break the conformity a bit. OK, with that said. Cipher mode back on.....
  14. Theres a mall right next to Tecport road, I get off 283 going on 441 Swatara, hit Eisenhower and pass a mall from the back. If its any easier, my classes are in the Trane building every monday. I could swing something this weekend, possibly saturday. that'll give us a little more time. So if that works, I'll be coming down 283. What are you looking at for points in CAV? Or we could go easy and just make it a Warmaster, 1750 points? your call.
  15. I read it and loved it. going back to something I said before; this is more of what we need for the CAV Galaxy. More guys such as yourself that are willing to go on an edge and "fill in" the "gaps" in the CAV history. or in other words your taking the ball and running with it. Your fleshing out the aftermath of Yed; excellent! and you incorporated your activities with some of the official fluff. guess what! you can build a hellified campaign based on the going ons in Yed. plus what about the Yedarions? from what I understand thats a simularly humanoid race like the Terrans, but not quite. hint, hint. New Race. Now if you build on that thought, the "fluff" just comes out of all the games involving the Spartans, and you maximize your gaming experience like that. Note: I've gotten into the practice when posting online, I tend to leave a space between paragraphs. It helps the reader and doesn't seem like the content is overwhelming.

OK, info sent. Ideally, this is to demonstrate how player participation can shape a backdrop. A little creativity goes a long way, and could turn even the most "mundane" ruleset into an epic. You just gotta be able to build from a thought, thats all. I think the overall point, is that we as players have to be willing to do more to create an enjoyable gaming experience ourselves. I think too often we find ourselves blaming Reaper for our own lack of creativity. I do it too. anyway, CAV is a great game, and with a little creativity, you can take the game farther than just a few numbers on a peice of paper and a few minis. Its a question of are you just playing a game or are you "fighting an epic battle". or how about, is Dana Murphy just a name tossed out, or is she a young Red Spades Captain who prefers tea instead of coffee. Is IGS 160 just another system or is this a hotbed of Terran political social regression, and hot tempered Ndee warriors ready to raise havoc on the RAM coalition. really, that depends on what you the player makes of your gaming experience.

War; hmmmm OK. I'll pitch Give me a quick outlay of the Spartans; how many CAV sections, vehicle sections, ETC, ETC. a couple names and callsigns. Contract rate is 25% (its what everyone is getting at this point.) you'll get an excel file tracking our previous operations. You'll need to go to autodesk.com and download Volo view. You'll be able to open and read the Tactical map. DWG file. plus I have to send you a few special font files; you'll be confused without them. We'll deploy you to augment the Lucky 8 operation zone. I don't think Red would mind, and he could use the assistance. You'll need a freind to play out the opposition, and the map would give you a rough outlay of the environment. really general so you free in most cases to do as you like. I think once you get a feel for the action, you'll pick up on whats going on pretty nicely. Let me know when you have volo view and get ready for "War".....
  18. Erion I need directions to the Guild from Harrisburg Mall so I can pay you a visit sometime next week. Or, If your interested, we can meet tonight at the Comic Store in York, and you could teach HG for me if we have a table available. I have two Strike cadre, doubled the missile racks on the shoulders, though I think for the Black Mambas I ended up using Northern Milicia missile racks. I'll need some help coming up with data cards for them. these guys can be pretty basic statwise. I need to get a feel for the game. Thanks

Red; I understand the frustrations and thanks for the vote of confidence, heres one thing you may or may not realize. (I'm guessing you do) The campaign fluff I did, works hand in hand with the official fluff. You hit the nail on the head a long time ago; I'm presenting the "dirty version" of the official timeline. example; Official fluff states during the era of strife, the United States was so enmeshed with violence, the central government was eventually no longer recognized by the states. Heres what that implicates for my campaign; with no federal government there is no bureau of Indian affairs, thus the states (who the tribes are in constant litigation with) would roll over any of their established rights and confiscate the remaining lands. 2012 Blood Apache nation is reformed 2027 Official Fluff states the UN building was destroyed by an unknown terrorist My campaign goes on the premise, the Blood Apaches were the most likely to be responsible. the fact that Reaper doesn't "officialize" any of these events, actually lend the Blood Apaches more credence; BUUUUUT that doesn't mean they don't follow along where I'm going with it. point is, all I've done was look for a few hooks to tie into the official setting; very little we've done actually changes or contradicts the official timeline, and if it does, it works to strengthen the overall story; Hint- What you don't know is just as important as what you do know...... What I'm telling all of you, listen up. Reaper is working on it. They know. its a moot point. I don't really even care about the fact they drew from their fantasy setting; I did the same thing years ago with my storyline for Exodus Star, drawing from my D20. In some ways I regret it, because one of the questions I got was, "why isn't magic prevelant in this world now?" my answer "because I hate the idea of my work turning into a Star Wars clone, I think I'm more original than that." Theres a truckload of issues associated with that, and getting to the meat and potatoes of the subject, The Dark Heaven world doesn't quite fit the mold I see CAV striving for. they recycled a few names (God knows I'm guilty of it) so be it. On Generals statement, are you so sure, Reaper hasn't already published a few odds and ends here and there which was inspired by players input? I can name plenty of instances, including a few of my own screamings, that actually found their way into the "official work". So thats an unfair statement. The JoR is a source for fluff; Look at the PMA. How about the Cybots from the first JoR? I surely found a hook with them. ROE is simply a book of scenarios and more add ons, guess what? I have no problem creating scenerios and add ons; I even have my own method of negotiating contracts, ask Red about that. The ROE is just an assesory, nothing more. When it comes out, sure, I'll run through a few scenarios, but after I've gone through them all, what happens? Cry and moan until the next ROE comes out? If the fluff is what got you into this game, then why are you complaining about fluff? The mechanics of the system is what got me into this game, I always provided my own fluff, regardless of what I'm playing.
  20. Love for the Betrayer (Lesley–Ann Dueno) It was a serene, breezy night as she walked on the diamond sands of her island. She had missed the view of many colors changing in the sunset. The wind was bittersweet with the aroma of a time lost to her for many years. The scents were haunting, for they reminded her of the love she chose to leave behind. She had always contemplated them reuniting in some strange fashion, but she knew all too well the consequences of those actions. “Dreaming on the past?” A voice came silently from behind. “You made your decision long ago to be my consort, but yet your heart is still with him.” He ran his beautiful hands through her long, straight, jet-black hair. “I made my decision out of fear Eidan. You made your plans very clear to Nari, and me.” “You slit her throat before my eyes to prove your point when it was already done. My sister loved you with all that she was in life, and you just wanted to spill more blood. You killed Nari, Eidan. You slaughtered my sister like she was an animal of yours, and there is a part of me that will always hate you for that.” Shrugging him off, she turned to walk away.” He grabbed her arm with little force. “She knew that I had no love for her. I was not going to let her interfere, nor influence the affection you had for me.” “Affection, Eidan I loved your brother. He was my life then. You claimed to love me, when it could not have been so. You only wanted what he had as when we were children.” He put his arms around her, with her back pressed against his chest. “But you love me now, Aira, as I knew you would. No one will ever seize you from my grasp, or they shall die trying.” Eidan, I care very much for you now, yes, but I am not in love with you. I left your brother to be alone, to save him from you, not to be your consort.” He got filled with anger, and held her tighter, speaking softly into her ear. “Make no mistake my love, I can satisfy my hunger for his blood, and fulfill the promise I made to you four years ago, or you can love me the way you loved him. We have all the time in the world.” She turns around with his arms still firmly around her, and strokes his devilishly handsome face. “What is the reason for your animosity towards your kin? He would have done anything for you, but you’ve always resented him.” He let go her abruptly. “Enough! Four years have gone, and I have done everything in my power to keep you entertained, and treated like a monarch, yet you carry on of that miscreant.” As he calms down, he goes to her, and embraces her face in his palms. “Time for the games to come to an end Aira. You will be my wife, you will be my lover, and you will bring forth my children. You will do this my love, or he dies. Then after, you and your clan shall follow. Tonight we will dine in the atrium.” He gives her a kiss, then goes on his way. Eidan had taken Aira away from everything that once brought fulfillment to her heart, and tortured her mind. She was also very ashamed at the fact that after all he had done to her, the hatred she had for him then grew into something else. What was it you say? Well, she started to love him, and it was eating her up alive. How could she betray Nari, herself, and especially her love Elija, who happened to be Eidan’s younger brother. Eidan wasn’t always so filled with rage, and in fact his childhood was what any normal boy would want. It was just that his mind played tricks on him. At the age of twelve he started to seclude himself from everyone except Aira. He had a fancy for weapons, particularly swords. So Aira would find him spending hours upon hours practicing, but sometimes he would get so intense that it would seem as if he were training to be an assassin. He came to her once, to her home. It was late at night, and everyone was asleep. The sight of him terrified her. He was badly bruised, and covered with blood. His clothes were torn, but the blood was not all from him. She tried her hardest not to become frantic. She had never seen so much blood on a person in her life. She gathered her fear, and started to clean him up. Eidan stayed silent, like in a daze. There was a rather large bag in his hand with blood dripping from the bottom. The bag itself had a foul stench. Aira was curious, but terrified at the same moment. She took the bag from Eidan to set it down on the floor. The bag was indeed heavy. Then she started to work on Eidan. She boiled water to make him a bath. She took his clothes, placed him into the water, and continued to cleanse him. Eidan was only at the age of seventeen then, yet looking as though he went through war. She felt pity, and desperately wanted to help for she was the only peace this Angry Swordsman ever knew....
  21. I'm working on it. Wife actually wiggled the rust from her fingers and wrote up a devious twist, so I'll be bringing her stuff in to work with me to post. Next is the first of them. I'll jump back into it soon enough and try to get Red to throw some more action.
  22. yeah, the triumvirate of trouble sounds like a fun bunch, alway enjoy those crazy player characters; great for keeping the GMs guessing. good style of writing too, keep it up.
  23. LOL now that was off the rocka! good work, keep it coming!
  24. Its deep in off topic rampacy, something I started around the holidays, saying my peace on how I feel about Reaper, then broke into a few rhymes. I'll probably continue that one if it was here. thanks.
  25. I'm not sure if we ever plan to, its tough to say, pressing CDs and vinyl range anywhere from about 3 to 5 grand, plus without major label support, its tough to get a foot in the door so to speak. We'll probably hit the college radio again in the immediate future, do some gigs here and there, mostly for the old school crowd, who would actually appreciate our style. We're thinking of throwing in a "turntablist" though Q is our DJ at this point, that'll probably give us that "Gangstarr" feel if we do.
